Abstract

This article describes the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills using the Mind Mapping learning model. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Bilah Hulu junior high school, Labuhanbatu regency, North Sumatra province. The type of this research is Classroom Action Research which are divided into pre-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II to find a comparison of improvement through observation and test question. This result showed a very significant increase throughout the cycles. In pre-cycle activities, only seven people got the Very Creative category with a score of 28,06%; in Cycle I activities, eight people got the Very Creative category with a score of 33,3%, then in the Cycle II activity, the number of students who got the Very Creative category increased significantly with a score of 61,09%. Based on this result of increases, it can be analyzed that the Mind Mapping learning model or technique can improve students’ critical thinking skills in the aspect of communicating and collecting facts observed by observers in making concept maps. Keywords: critical thinking ability, Mind Mapping, Civic Education learning ABSTRAK Artikel ini mendeskripsikan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa melalui model belajar Mind Mapping. Penelitian dilakukan di kelas VII SMP Negeri 2 Bilah Hulu, Kabupaten Labuhanbatu, Sumatera Utara. Jenis penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas menggunakan prasiklus, siklus I, dan siklus II untuk mencari perbandingan peningkatan melalui observasi dan tes soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang sangat signifikan; pada kegiatan prasiklus hanya tujuh orang mendapatkan kategori Sangat Kreatif dengan skor 28,06%, kemudian meningkat pada kegiatan Siklus I yakni 8 orang mendapatkan kategori Sangat Kreatif dengan skor 33,3%, kemudia pada kegiatan Siklus II jumlah siswa yang mendapatkan kategori Sangat Kreatif melonjak dengan skor 61,09%. Berdasarkan kenaikan pada hasil tes maupun observasi, dapat dianalisa bahwa model belajar atau teknik Mind Mappng dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam aspek mengkomunikasikan serta mengumpulkan fakta yang diamati oleh observer pada pembuatan peta konsep. Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effect of online game addiction on students' learning motivation at SMP PKMI Methodist Aek Batu. This research uses a quantitative approach with survey method. The population consisted of 64 students, and the total sampling technique was used to determine the sample. The research instrument is a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation test with IBM SPSS Statistics 23. The results of the study showed that there was no significant effect of online game addiction on student learning motivation, as evidenced by the correlation test results showing a significance value greater than 0.05 (> 0.05). This discrepancy in results may be influenced by factors such as time management, parental support, type of game, and the students' social environment. Therefore, it can be concluded that online gaming addiction does not directly affect students' learning motivation at SMP PKMI Methodist Aek Batu. Further research with a broader scope, larger sample size, and a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach is recommended to obtain more comprehensive results.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada tindakan dikelas mata pelajaran biologi dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran pendekatan kooperatif tipe jigsaw pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri I Torgamba Kabupaten Labuhanbatu Selatan. Penelitian ini di latar belakangi oleh rendahnya nilai belajar belajar siswa dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran melalui pendekatan kooperatif Jigsaw pada materi pokok sistem pencernaan. Penelitian ini dilakukan sebanyak 3 siklus. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan, persentase ketuntasan belajar siswa mengalami peningkatan yang cukup tinggi. Pada siklus 1 atau prasiklus persentase ketuntasan belajar hanya 20 %. Pada siklus 2 terjadi peningkatan namun hanya menjadi 52,38 %. Lalu pada pada siklus 3 persentase ketuntasan belajar siswa menjadi 90,48 %. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw tindakan kelas dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran Biologi materi pokok sistem pencernaan pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri I Torgamda Kabupaten Labuhan Batu Selatan.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic outbreak in 2019 significantly impacted various aspects of societal life, particularly in education. The shift to online learning, necessitated by the pandemic, posed numerous challenges for teachers and students at SMA Negeri 2 Rantau Selatan. This study aims to comprehensively understand these difficulties faced by 11th-grade teachers during online instruction. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the findings reveal several challenges: difficulties in delivering the curriculum, evaluating students' understanding, and creating engaging online learning environments. Quantitatively, 75% of teachers reported significant challenges in curriculum delivery, 60% found it difficult to assess students' comprehension, and 70% struggled with maintaining student engagement. These findings suggest a need for more active and creative teaching methods, supported by adequate facilities from the government. The implications of these findings highlight the necessity for improved educational practices and policy recommendations to better support online learning.

Abstract

The learning process is still carried out using manual methods, so students tend to get bored quickly when participating in learning activities in class. The aim of this research is to improve science learning outcomes by applying educational role playing learning methods to Class 7 students at SMPN 2 Ratu for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research was carried out at SMPN 2 Ratu, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province. The subjects in this research were 7th grade students of SMPN 2 Ratu, Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province. This research is classroom action research with 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of 4 activities, namely planning, action, observation and reflection followed by planning in the next cycle by utilizing the results of previous reflection. The solution design in question is an action in the form of a role-playing learning method in teaching the subject of the Solar System for Class 7 SMPN 2 Ratu to 31 people. Research findings show that learning science using the educational role playing learning method can improve student learning outcomes as evidenced by the increase in science learning outcomes each cycle, namely from an average of 70.52 to an average of 80.19. students feel happy studying science in the field of biology with material on the greenhouse effect and are interested in learning.

Abstract

Students’ Biology learning outcomes are influenced by two factors, namely internal and external factors. Internal factors that can influence learning outcomes are independence, attitude and learning motivation. This research aims to investigate the relationship between independence, attitudes and learning motivation with biology learning outcomes in class X SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu. This research is ex post facto research. The research instrument is a questionnaire used to obtain data on independence, attitudes and motivation to learn. Learning outcome data is obtained from daily test scores. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical with product moment correlation tests, simple and multiple regression. The results of the research show that (1) students' learning independence is in the high category, (2) students' learning attitudes are in the positive category, (3) students' learning motivation is in the high category, (4) students' biology learning outcomes are in the very high, (5) there is a strong relationship between independence and biology learning outcomes, with a correlation value of 0.680, (6) there is a strong relationship between attitudes and biology learning outcomes, with a correlation value of 0.663, (7) there is a moderate relationship between motivation with biology learning outcomes, with a correlation value of 0.453, (8) there is a strong relationship between independence, attitude and motivation and biology learning outcomes with a correlation value of 0.730.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see the extent to which the level of knowledge of Biology teachers regarding Discovery Learning influences the improvement of student learning outcomes at the Senior High School level at SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu. This study used a quantitative descriptive approach with analysis using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of the study showed that descriptively Biology teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu have standards or qualifications where almost 57.7% have higher education. From the results of the hypothesis testing found that there was a good influence between the level of knowledge of Biology teachers regarding the Discovery Learning model. This indicates that the level of knowledge of Biology teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bilah Hulu Discovery Learning methods in schools is quite good so that in other words Biology teachers continue to follow the development of Discovery Learning. The results of this study indicates that it will affect the success of students in pursuing education, good and regular learning outcomes since or in the process of education are important keys.

Abstract

Wild betta fish has high economic value as one of the ornamental fish commodities in Indonesia.  The potential for cultivation development so far has not been maximized so that it still relies on the results of capture from nature. The main key to the development of wild fish farming is actually dependent on food conversion and water quality. Water quality management must adjust to its habitat in nature, however, the study of the physical chemical parameters of wild betta fish waters endemic to Sumatra has not been widely reported. Studies related to habitat characteristics can be used as the basis for aquaculture management in the future. This study aims to analyze the condition of the physical parameters of aquatic chemistry in the natural habitat of wild betta fish in the Regency Labuhanbatu Selatan, Labuhanbatu, and Labuhanbatu Utara. This research is exlorative by observing physical and chemical factors carried out insitu and exitu. The research data is analyzed quantitatively, presented discriptively and discussed based on relevant literature. The results of the main component analysis (Principal Component Analysis) show the main characteristic parameters of wild betta fish habitat in the form of: BOD, COD, DO, conductivity, temperature, and pH. Based on the results of UPGMA analysis, the percentage of similarity of stations 1 and 2 (90.5%) while station 3 (83.6%). It was concluded that the key parameters for wild betta fish farming activities are BOD, COD, DO, conductivity, temperature, and pH and these parameters need to be measured continuously.
