Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify students' learning interests in class X Biology at SMA Negeri 1 Aek Natas, Aek Natas District, North Labuhanbatu Regency. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach. The research strategy applied was to analyze students' interest in learning at SMA Negeri 1 Aek Natas. The method used in this research was a questionnaire given to 29 class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Aek Natas. The questionnaire is filled out via the Google Form Platform. There are four indicators that are measured in evaluating students' interest in learning Biology in class The results of the research show that students' interest in learning in class X SMA Negeri 1 Aek Natas is 53.6%. In detail, the percentage of student interest for the knowledge indicator was 62.05%, the activeness indicator was 55.7%, the attention indicator was 48.3%, and the interest indicator was 48.3%. This percentage was obtained by filling out a questionnaire distributed to students. Based on these results, it can be concluded that students' interest in learning Biology in class X SMA Negeri 1 Aek Natas can be categorized as moderate interest.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not there is an influence of the learning model using the problem based instruction (PBI) learning model on student learning outcomes on the respiratory system material for class XI at the Dar al-Ma'arif Islamic Boarding School. This research method uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental type of research. The population in this study were students of class XI Islamic boarding school Dar al-Ma'arif. The samples used in this study were students of class XI A (experimental class) and class XI B (control class). The samples used in this study were 2 classes totaling 40 students. Sampling in this study was conducted using a random sampling technique. Sampling in this study was carried out using a random sampling technique. The results of the study were the results of student learning outcomes using the Problem Based Instruction (PBI) learning model in the control class, the highest score was obtained at 72 while the lowest score from the control class was 36 with the average score. an average of 56.2 and while the experimental class the highest score was obtained at 96 while the lowest value from the experimental class was 40 with an average score of 66.4. The experimental class has a higher score because the use of the Problem Based Instruction (PBI) learning method is easier to understand and easy for students to understand. Keywords: problem based instruction, learning outcomes, respiratory system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v23i2.pp448-458

Abstract

This study aimed to determine students’ retention levels before and after the implementation of the PlantNet application and to analyze the effect of the PlantNet application on students’ retention in biology learning at SMA Negeri 1 Aek Natas. The study employed a quantitative approach with descriptive analysis. The research participants consisted of 61 tenth-grade students, including 31 students from class X2 and 30 students from class X3. The research instruments included a questionnaire measuring students’ perceptions of the use of the PlantNet application and a retention test designed to assess short-term retention, long-term retention, and conceptual understanding. The collected data were analyzed using percentage analysis to determine the achievement level of each indicator. The results indicated that the use of the PlantNet application was categorized as very good, with the ease-of-use indicator reaching 91.7% and the usefulness in learning indicator reaching 88.8%. Regarding student retention, short-term retention reached 83.4%, long-term retention reached 84.2%, and conceptual understanding reached 84.6%, all of which were classified as good. These findings suggest that the PlantNet application is not only easy to use and beneficial for biology learning but also contributes to strengthening students’ memory retention and improving their conceptual understanding of the learning material. Therefore, the integration of the PlantNet application has strong potential to serve as an effective instructional medium for enhancing students’ retention in biology learning.
