Abstract

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Brogandi, a combination of Broccoli and Centella asiatica, in improving the cognitive function of nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre- and post-test design was conducted involving 40 nursing students, who were divided into an intervention group (n = 20) and a control group (n = 20). Cognitive function was assessed using the Trail Making Test-B (TMT-B), Visual Recall, and Backward Digit Span. The intervention group received Brogandi supplementation at a dosage of 1000 mg twice daily for 14 days, while the control group did not receive any supplementation. Statistical analysis was performed to compare pre- and post-test results between the groups. Results: The intervention group exhibited significant improvements in cognitive performance across all tests compared to the control group. TMT-B and Backward Digit Span scores in the intervention group improved significantly (p < 0.001), and Visual Recall also showed a significant enhancement (p = 0.001). In contrast, the control group did not demonstrate significant changes in any cognitive test (p ≥ 0.248). Conclusion: The bioactive compounds in Brogandi —sulforaphane, asiaticoside, vitamin C, and vitamin E—are believed to contribute to its neuroprotective and neuroplasticity-enhancing effects. These findings suggest that Brogandi is a promising nutritional intervention for improving cognitive function, particularly in college students with high academic demands. Further research with larger and more diverse samples is needed to confirm these results and explore potential mechanisms.

Abstract

Aims: This study aimed to assess the combined effects of telemonitoring and nurse-led collaborative care on self-management, medication adherence, QoL, and hospital readmission rates among HF patients in West Java, Indonesia. Methods: A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted with 120 HF patients randomized into an intervention group (telemonitoring and nurse-led collaborative care) and a control group (standard education). The intervention included health education, telemonitoring of clinical parameters, and regular nurse follow-ups. The primary and secondary outcomes—hospital readmissions, self-management, medication adherence, and QoL—were measured using validated instruments. Data analysis was performed using multivariate regression and chi-square tests. Results: Participants in the intervention group demonstrated significant improvements in self-management (mean score increased from 62.4 to 78.3), medication adherence (mean core increased from 4.3 to 6.8), and QoL (mean score decreased from 51.8 to 38.4) compared to the control group (p < 0.001). Additionally, the 180-day hospital readmission rate was significantly lower in the intervention group (30.0%) compared to the control group (60.0%, p < 0.001). Telemonitoring and nurse-led care independently reduced the odds of readmission by 3.8 times (OR: 3.8, 95% CI: 1.9–7.4, p < 0.001). Conclusion: This scalable and effective model for HF management highlights the importance of culturally tailored interventions in low- and middle-income countries, offering a practical approach to overcoming resource limitations.

Abstract

Hypertension, characterized by diastolic pressure exceeding 90 mmHg and systolic pressure surpassing 140 mmHg, poses a significant health challenge often addressed through pharmacological antihypertensive therapy. This research endeavors to evaluate the impact of complementary interventions, specifically deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation, on reducing blood pressure among hypertensive patients within the operational domain of the Kertasemaya Community Health Center in the Indramayu Regency in 2023. Adopting a Quasi-Experimental Design with a Pretest-Posttest and Control Group paradigm, the study engaged a cohort of 70 respondents stratified into intervention and control groups. The intervention group underwent a combined therapy of deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation, followed by a meticulous post-test for final observations. Meanwhile, the control group underwent an initial blood pressure measurement (pre-test), a relaxation period of 15-30 minutes, and concluded with a post-test for final measurements. The study revealed a statistically significant influence (p=0.013) on average blood pressure within the intervention group compared to the control group. This disparity was observed both before and after the implementation of deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation techniques among hypertensive respondents. These findings underscore the potential efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions in mitigating hypertension and enhancing patient well-being. The combination of deep breathing relaxation and progressive muscle relaxation emerges as a highly effective strategy in reducing blood pressure among hypertensive individuals. This integrative therapeutic approach showcases promising potential for promoting cardiovascular well-being, offering a valuable non-pharmacological avenue for hypertension management

Abstract

Body weight is a crucial aspect in martial arts sports, as it is directly related to determining the competition class that an athlete will participate in. To achieve their ideal target weight required for their respective classes, each athlete has their own perception of the body weight status they desire. This perception is often closely linked to their body image or view of their current physical form. This research was conducted with the aim of comprehensively describing nutritional perceptions, body image profiles, and the relationship between nutritional perceptions and body image among martial arts athletes at the West Java Student Sports Education and Training Center (PPLP). This research involved 45 martial arts athletes from the West Java PPLP institution, comprising 25 males and 20 females. The research design used was a cross-sectional survey with total sampling technique. Nutritional perception and body image assessments were conducted using the Nutritional Perception Screening Questionnaire (NPSQ9) and Figure Rating Scale (FRS) instruments. The findings showed that on average, the athletes' nutritional perceptions were in the good category. However, the obtained body image profile yielded negative results, meaning that their current body shape did not match the desired body shape of the athletes. The bivariate correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between nutritional perceptions and body image among martial arts athletes at the West Java PPLP, with a significance value of 0.164 (p>0.05). Although the body image profiles of males were negative and females positive, there was no difference in perception between them. This was because the athletes were more focused on meeting the requirements for their competition class rather than attaining their desired body image.
