Abstract

Krisis karakter yang terjadi saat ini telah menimbulkan keprihatinan mendalam terhadap cara hidup masyarakat Indonesia. Lonjakan kemajuan teknologi membawa dampak positif dan negatif bagi generasi muda. Di sisi lain, pemerintah mulai memprioritaskan program penanaman karakter di setiap lembaga pendidikan, khususnya seni musik Gambus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan penanaman nilai karakter dalam kesenian Melayu Gambus. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Kota Pekanbaru, dengan subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa seni pertunjukan Universitas Islam Riau, dan Seni Gambus Melayu Riau sebagai objek penelitian. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan observasi, wawancara, tinjauan pustaka dan dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data meliputi data primer dan sekunder yang dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang mempelajari kesenian Gambus cenderung lebih memahami nilai-nilai penanaman karakter dan mengamalkan nilai-nilai tersebut dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dibandingkan dengan siswa yang tidak mempelajari kesenian Gambus. Selain itu, nilai-nilai penanaman karakter dalam kesenian Gambus dapat dibedakan menjadi: Nilai Religius, Nilai Kebenaran, Nilai Toleransi, Disiplin, Nilai Kreatif dan Nilai Demokrasi. Banyak pesan dan nilai yang diperoleh dari Kesenian Gambus yang berasal dari fungsi religi dan moral yang dapat diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam Kesenian Gambus sendiri menunjang penanaman karakter pada generasi muda.

Abstract

Riau Malay Gambus. This research utilizes a descriptive qualitative approach to observe the solidity of educational character values through the Riau Malay Gambus instrument at the Islamic University of Riau. The data collection techniques employed in this research include literature review, informant selection, interviews, and documentation. Three educational character values are embedded in the Riau Malay Gambus: religiosity, discipline, and environmental concern. The religious value inherent in the Riau Malay Gambus lies in the utilization of its lyrics, which are related to the Islamic religion, stories or messages conveyed relating to Allah, prophets, and other Islamic histories. The value of discipline is evident in the students' dedication to practice and presentational efforts to achieve maximum grades.

Abstract

The contemporary character crisis has raised a profound concern to Indonesian way of living. The spike oftechnological advancement has brought both positive and negative impact to the young generation. The government, on the other hand, has started to prioritize cultivating of character programme in each educational institution, particularly in Gambus music art. This research aims to explain character value cultivation in Malay Gambus art. This research was conducted at Pekanbaru City, with performing arts students of Islamic Riau University as the research subjects, and Riau Malay Gambus Art as the research object. This research had been done in a qualitative descriptive methods by using observation, interview, literature review and documentation while data analysis involved primary and secondary data that were gathered using qualitative descriptive method. The research results have revealed that the students who arestudying Gambus art tend to have more understanding on character cultivation values and practice those values in their daily life compared to the students who are not studying Gambus art. In addition, character cultivation values in Gambus art can be divided into: Religious Value, Truth Value, Tolerance Value, Discipline, Creative and Democratic Value. There are a lot of messages and values gained from Gambus Art that are derived from its religious and moral functions which are applicable to everyday life. Therefore, values contained in the Gambus Art itself support the character cultivation in the young generation.

Abstract

The declining interest of SMAN 1 Kampar Timur students in traditional Malay Riau dance has contributed to a weakening of character development. The absence of structured training programs in traditional dance has also resulted in limited effective engagement with local cultural heritage. A training program focused on Zapin Pecah Dua Belas dance was implemented to address these issues. This initiative aimed to strengthen students’ character, channel their artistic interests and talents, and rekindle appreciation for traditional Malay Riau dance, particularly Zapin Pecah Dua Belas dance. The program comprised four phases: preparation, implementation, presentation, and evaluation, and was conducted over one day. The training led to measurable character enhancement, namely, cooperation, discipline, self-confidence, creativity, courtesy, communication, sociability, and perseverance, through the mastery of six core movement patterns in Zapin Pecah Dua Belas dance. Moreover, the program successfully facilitated students’ engagement with traditional dance and fostered a renewed cultural pride. The ethnopedagogical training program through Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance received a positive response from the partner institution and is recommended for continuous integration by school teachers into cultural arts education.

Abstract

Purpose:This study aimed to explore the role of Gambus Melayu music as an educational medium for preserving local culture at the Cendana Rumbai Education Foundation High School. Instilling local cultural values in formal education is a strategic way to maintain the nation's cultural identity in the era of globalization.Methodology:A  qualitative descriptive research design was employed with a case study method. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. The writer also observes the extracurricular activities related to Gambus Melayu music. This method is conducted to understand how traditional music functions in formal education.Findings:Research results indicated that Gambus music has various functions, including as a teaching material for arts education, instilling local wisdom values, fostering Malay cultural identity, and appreciating local wisdom. Furthermore, incorporating gamelan music into the curriculum provides students with an understanding of local culture. It even provides an extraordinary and meaningful learning experience aligned with current learning principles.Contribution:This study empirically enhances cultural education by integrating traditional music into formal education at SMA Cendana. This school serves as an effective technique to preserve local cultural continuity in the modernisation era. It gives teachers and stakeholders helpful ideas for how to use school-based programs to help protect culture.
