Abstract

This study aims to find out how effective the use of contextual approaches is to improve students' critical thinking abilities in the transition period as the study intends to detail and conclude the technology that is currently being used as well as the benefits and limitations it has. The SLR stage is grouping data, analyzing and summarizing the data that has been obtained. To develop students’ critical thinking skills, contextual learning is applied that emphasizes the ability to think at a higher level, linking it to everyday life so that students can transfer that knowledge through scientific disciplines, then collect, analyze, and conclude data obtained from some different information and points of view. The research results obtained are as follows: (1) The use of contextual approaches to learning is very effective in improving students’ critical abilities, (2) characteristics of contextual approaches are very effectively used to improve students’ critical thinking abilities, (3) students are not only fixated on one source but many sources can be obtained by students, thus training students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to observe the process of students' critical mathematic alabilities in the context of their initial mathematical knowledge. The research utilized a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 7 Cimahi with a sample of 34 students from class VIII-E. The results show that students with good initial mathematical abilities demonstrate better critical thinking skills compared to students with lower initial abilities. High-category students are able to provide detailed answers, supported by appropriate evidence and conclusions, despite minor errors. Medium-category students can answer correctly and provide sufficient reasons and evidence, although sometimes imprecise. Low-category students can provide correct answers but lack supporting evidence and reasons. These findings indicate a positive correlation between initial mathematical abilities and critical mathematical thinking skills. Therefore, improving students' critical mathematical thinking skills requires efforts to enhance their initial mathematical abilities through adaptive and effective teaching methods.

Abstract

Abstract

In order to enhance students' mathematical problem-solving skills, this study looks at how teaching materials are developed using the Discovery Learning model. Since every student nowadays needs to be able to think critically, the study specifically looks at the process and outcomes. development, viability testing, feedback from students, and improving mathematical problem-solving skills. This kind of research makes use of the Research and Development (R&D) or Research-based Development research method, which is a way to create a specific product and use a model to test the product's viability. Students in class VII at MTs Al Bidayah West Bandung Regency served as the research sample for S. Thiagarajan's 4D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) study. The process and outcomes of creating educational materials lead to the conclusion that the materials, when viewed from the various stages, follow the procedures or methods outlined in 4D. Based on students' responses, which were 68.4% and 70.2% in the good category, the viability of teaching materials made possible by the Photoshop program can be concluded, along with the students' improved problem-solving skills. If this teaching material is used in a classroom setting, it is imperative that the necessary facilities be set up ahead of time because learning with it requires sufficient facilities. There are tasks and content in this teaching resource that need to be altered. so that students' learning experiences are not dull and monotonous.

Abstract

This research was prompted by the observed deficiency in numeracy skills among junior high school students. Consequently, the study aims to develop digital teaching materials utilizing Flip HTML 5 to enhance these skills. The research method employed is research and development (R&D) using the 4D model: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The instruments used in this study include expert validity sheets, student response questionnaires regarding the practicality of the teaching materials, and numeracy test instruments focused on number pattern material. The limited trial involved 8 randomly selected students from a junior high school in West Bandung Regency, while the implementation stage included 26 randomly selected students from the same region. The results indicated that the Flip HTML 5-assisted digital pocketbook teaching materials developed were valid, practical, and effective in improving students' numeracy skills. This study implies that the developed teaching materials can be an alternative for teachers seeking ICT-assisted resources to enhance students' numeracy abilities.

Abstract

Communication is one of the important skills that students must have in mathematics. Engaging in communication activities helps provide an understanding of mathematical communication skills to students. However, in reality, students' mathematical communication skills are still in the low category. Therefore, a more interactive learning method is needed. This study was conducted to analyze the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in improving mathematical communication skills. The method used in this research is a literature review with inclusion and exclusion criteria focusing on studies containing quantitative or qualitative data. The data collection technique involved gathering relevant National and International Journal articles published between 2019 and 2023. From the numerous articles found, researchers selected 21 articles related to this study. The data processing technique applied in this study examined the effectiveness of using Realistic Mathematics Education (RME)  to improve communication skills in the collected articles. The results showed that RME is an effective learning approach for improving students' mathematical communication skills. In addition to Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), classroom learning can be enhanced with various media, such as Audio Visual Media or Learner Worksheets (LKPD). This approach makes classroom learning more interactive and receives positive responses from students, helping them understand the material better by expressing mathematical ideas through oral and written language and making arguments with confidence.
