Abstract

This research was motivated by the low mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at sdn 05 tarok dipo, bukittinggi, on the topic of plane figures, which resulted from teacher-centered learning and the suboptimal use of instructional media. This study aimed to improve students' mathematics learning outcomes through the implementation of the discovery learning model assisted by powtoon media. This research employed a classroom action research (car) design using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The study was conducted in two cycles, with cycle i consisting of two meetings and cycle ii consisting of one meeting, involving 21 fifth-grade students. Each cycle included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation, tests, and non-test techniques. The findings revealed that the implementation of the discovery learning model assisted by powtoon media improved both the learning process and students' learning outcomes. The average lesson plan score increased from 95 to 98, teacher activity improved from 83 to 97, and student activity increased from 78 to 96. Meanwhile, the average student learning outcomes improved from 76 and 82 in cycle i to 91 in cycle ii, with classical learning mastery reaching 100%. Therefore, the discovery learning model assisted by powtoon media was proven to be effective in improving the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at sdn 05 tarok dipo, bukittinggi.

Abstract

Low student interest and engagement, as well as poor learning outcomes in IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences), stem from a lack of variety and innovation in the instructional media employed. Digital pop-up books had not previously been used as learning media for the fifth-grade IPAS subject addressed in this study. The research aimed to develop a digital pop-up book as a learning medium that meets criteria for validity, practicality, and effectiveness. “This research and development study utilized the ADDIE model: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.”The findings revealed a high level of validity for the digital pop-up book (validity score: 91.67%). At the first trial school, SDN 47 Korong Gadang, results showed a practicality score of 94% based on teacher feedback “highly practical” and 89.90% based on student feedback (highly practical); an N-gain score of 65% “highly effective”; and a student participation rate of 78% “active”. In the second trial at SDN 09 Korong Gadang, the N-gain score reached 68% “moderate effectiveness”, student participation was 80% “active”, and practicality ratings were 90% from teachers (highly practical) and 88.13% from students “highly practical”. Additionally, research at SDN 34 Kuranji showed an N-gain score of 70% “moderate effectiveness”, student participation of 83% “highly active”, and practicality ratings of 96% from teachers (highly practical) and 98.10% from students “highly practical”. Thus, the digital pop-up book proved to be a valid, practical, and effective learning medium.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited use of technology-based instructional mediain elementary-level science and social studies (IPAS) learning, particularly for thetopic of changes in the states of matter a subject that students commonly perceiveas abstract and difficult to grasp. Accordingly, this study aimed to build anAugmented Reality (AR) learning tool for fourth-grade IPAS instruction that satisfiesthe criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. A Research and Development(R&D) design was applied, following the five phases of the ADDIE frameworkAnalysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Participants werefourth-grade students from SDN 14 Koto Lalang, SDN 05 Kapalo Koto, and SDN 30Cengkeh, with data collected through expert validation sheets, practicalityquestionnaires, and pretest–posttest scores. Findings show that the AR toolachieved a high level of validity, scoring 82% for content, 98% for language, and90% for media design, for an overall average of 90% (very valid). Teachers andstudents alike gave highly favorable responses in the practicality trial, placing thetool in the highly practical category. The effectiveness trial yielded an average NGain of 0.46, a moderate figure indicating that the tool meaningfully improvedlearning outcomes. Overall, the AR-based learning tool met the standards of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, making it a workable alternative resource for teachingthe states-of-matter topic in fourth-grade IPAS.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited use of digital teaching materials in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in elementary schools, where printed textbooks still dominate and student engagement remains low. This research and development (R&D) study aimed to produce flipbook-based teaching materials on Cultural Diversity content for fourth-grade students that are valid, practical, and effective, using the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation). Subjects were fourth-grade students of SDN 27 Paru (trial school), SDN 8 Paru, and SDN 24 Aie Angek (research schools). Data were collected through expert validation sheets, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, and pretest-posttest tests, then analyzed descriptively in percentage form. Results showed validity of 85% for content, 92.5% for media, and 100% for language, all very valid; practicality of 96.87% for teachers and 98.36-98.63% for students, categorized very practical; and effectiveness of 82.10-84.23%, categorized very effective. The developed teaching material is feasible for use in IPAS learning on Cultural Diversity content.

Abstract

Learning motivation may support students’ engagement in complex cognitive activities, yet the higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade students at SDN 18 Sungai Tarab remained below expectations. This study examined the direction and strength of the association between learning motivation and HOTS in science learning. A quantitative correlational design was applied to 48 students from classes VA and VB, selected purposively from a population of 71 fifth-grade students. Motivation data were obtained through a Likert questionnaire, while HOTS was measured using 15 multiple-choice questions and one essay question covering analysis, evaluation, and creation. The instruments underwent expert review and field testing. Data were processed descriptively and analyzed using Pearson’s product-moment correlation in SPSS 27. The coefficients were 0.453 for class VA, indicating a moderate positive relationship, and 0.918 for class VB, indicating a very strong positive relationship; both outputs were reported at p < 0.05. Teachers’ observations produced an average achievement score of 85.5%, supporting the motivation data. These findings indicate that stronger learning motivation tends to occur alongside better HOTS performance in science learning. The results should be interpreted within the study’s limited, cross-sectional sample.

Abstract

The research is motivated by the utilization of technology-based learning media in the field is still not optimal, especially because teachers still face obstacles in designing innovative and varied media, so that the active participation of students during the learning process is relatively low. The purpose of this study is to design interactive multimedia assisted by Articulate Storyline 3 which is based on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach for science learning on biodiversity material in grade IV of elementary school, while ensuring that the resulting product meets the standards of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research design chosen is Research and Development (R&D) by following the five stages of the ADDIE model, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The product trial involved 28 grade IV students of UPT SDN 20 Dadok Tunggul Hitam, while the dissemination stage reached 27 students of UPT SDN 24 Parupuk Tabing and 25 students of SD Angkasa Lanud Sutan Sjahrir. Data collection was carried out through validation instruments of material, media, and language experts; practicality questionnaires filled out by teachers and students; and pretest-posttest scores of learning outcomes. The overall product validity level reached 94%, classified as very valid. The average practicality score was 93.3% from teachers and 91.85% from students, both categorized as very practical, while the effectiveness value based on N-Gain reached an average of 0.74, which is categorized as high. Overall, these findings prove that PBL-based interactive multimedia built with Articulate Storyline 3 is suitable as a learning resource for science to improve the quality of learning biodiversity material in grade IV of elementary school.
