Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of fiber orientation on the impact and bending strength of fiberglass/epoxy prepreg composites used in horizontal axis wind turbine applications. The use of fiberglass/epoxy composites in the renewable energy industry, particularly in horizontal axis wind turbines, is increasing due to their superior mechanical properties. One crucial factor influencing the performance of these composites is the fiber orientation within the material structure. Proper fiber orientation can enhance impact and bending strength, which are critical for resisting dynamic and static loads during wind turbine operation. In this study, various fiber orientation angles were tested to determine their impact on composite performance. The analysis provides valuable insights for optimizing the design and improving the performance of wind turbines by maximizing the properties of the composite materials used. The study focused on 45° and 90° fiber orientations with epoxy resin as the matrix. The impact test results indicated that the highest impact strength was achieved with the 45° fiber orientation, showing a value of 0.113 J/mm² and an absorbed impact energy of 11.307 Joules. Similarly, the bending test results demonstrated that the 45° fiber orientation produced the highest bending strength. These findings highlight the significant effect of 45° fiber orientation on the impact strength and bending properties of the composite material. The results are expected to contribute to the development of more optimized composite materials for renewable energy applications, especially in the wind turbine industry.

Abstract

Heavy equipment in particular is one of the supporting tools for mining or industry which is very important in the production process. During the excavation process, the Rear attachment, especially the actuator, namely the hydraulic cylinder, works continuously during the process. This will of course cause problems that cannot be avoided. However, problems that occur can be minimized with preventive measures and maintenance. It is hoped that the existence of preventive and maintenance steps will make it easier for mechanics to carry out preventive and maintenance steps on hydraulic cylinder components. The main method used in this report is comprehension. The data obtained is taken from an understanding that refers to the problem. Second, the observation method. This method is taken when carrying out work practices. The final method is interviews, by asking questions about problems that often occur to employees who are experienced in their field. Common problems in hydraulic cylinders such as leaks and contamination can be minimized with preventive and maintenance measures, starting from choosing the right oil, preventive maintenance, and operating the unit correctly. If preventive and maintenance steps are carried out properly, repairs to components will of course be easier.

Abstract

While Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) has been widely applied in heavy industries, its application in the mid-scale agro-industrial sector remains highly limited. This study addresses this critical gap by analyzing the mechanical failure of electric motors in Rice Milling Units (RMUs) within the Lappariaja District, focusing specifically on the synergistic impact of excessive shaft loading and high-particulate environments on motor longevity. Adopting a descriptive quantitative approach, this research integrates multi-modal data collection, including field observations, technical measurements using digital multimeters, and operator interviews. The FMEA framework was applied to calculate the Risk Priority Number (RPN) for each prominent failure mode. The empirical findings reveal that the Stator Winding is the most critical vulnerability, with the highest RPN of 252, due to a severe "thermal trap" phenomenon in which rice husk dust acts as an unwanted thermal insulator. This is closely followed by bearing wear with an RPN of 224. Scientifically, this study contributes a tailored risk-priority framework that maps the ways in which environmental stressors accelerate mechanical degradation under excessive loads. Industrially and operationally, this research delivers a predictive maintenance roadmap and prioritized intervention schedule for RMU operators. Shifting the paradigm from reactive "fix-when-broken" habits to targeted maintenance prevents catastrophic motor failure, minimizes operational downtime, and eliminates costly total replacements, thereby safeguarding local food security and rural economic stability.
