Abstract

Abstract

This community service is held to improve the quality of human resources and the economy of the people in Barabali Village by raising the potential of Barabali Village which has an abundance of natural resources in the form of bamboo. The availability of raw materials, in this case bamboo, is a supporting factor that provides the opportunity and potential to be used as a product that has economic value. Based on field observations, the wealth of natural resources in the form of bamboo has not been utilized optimally. The business that has been running so far does not have a variety of product varieties so that its market share is limited, production creativity is still low so it does not have high selling power. In this activity, innovations and new creations of bamboo products were introduced which were adapted to the latest market trends. This will open up a new market for the creative industry, especially bamboo handicrafts and can have a positive impact on the people's economy. The participants in this Community Empowerment activity were members of the Barabali Village Women Farmers Group (KWT) with a high level of participation and this had a positive impact on the implementation of the activity. At the end of the activity, the participants gained soft skills in making products and were able to produce several variations of bamboo handicraft products in the form of door ornaments, night lamps and bamboo mugs.

Abstract

This study investigated the antioxidant activity of swallow nests known as Edible Bird Nests (EBNs) derived from the swallow species Collocalia linchi, especially those sourced from Lombok, Indonesia with various health benefits, including their potential as antioxidants. This study used swallow nest samples taken from 3 different locations, namely: East Lombok, Central Lombok and West Lombok. The extraction method used is heating and sonication. Antioxidant activity was assessed quantitatively using the DPPH method and measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Results showed varying IC50 values across different extraction times, with the highest values recorded at 3818.47 mg/mL and the lowest at 2331.47 mg/mL, compared to the control (ascorbic acid) at 35.22 mg/mL. The higher the IC50 value, the lower the effectiveness of antioxidants and vice versa. These findings suggest that the antioxidant activity of EBNs extracts is relatively weak when compared to ascorbic acid. This study contributes to the understanding of optimized extraction techniques by heating and sonication to unlock the full potential of the extraction results of bioactive compounds.

Abstract

Nature Tourism Parks (TWA) Gunung Tunak primarily serves the purpose of nature conservation, emphasizing ecotourism due to its stunning coastal landscapes. Currently, there is a significant lack of documented information regarding the diversity and potential of macrofungi in this protected area. This study aims to assess the diversity of macrofungi found within TWA Gunung Tunak and explore their potential applications. The research was conducted using the line transect and plot method, with samples collected along three transect lines in the study area. Each transect comprised ten plots, each measuring 10 x 10 meters and spaced 10 meters apart. The data collected were analyzed using the Shannon Wiener Diversity Index (H'). A total of 11 species of macrofungi from six families were identified: Polyporaceae, Irpicaceae, Hymenochaetaceae, Gloeophyllaceae, Stereaceae, and Xylariaceae. The family Polyporaceae had the highest representation, with five species (Hexagonia sp., Trametes sp., Microporus sp., Daedalopsis sp., and Podofomes sp.), followed by Hymenochaetaceae, which included the species Phylloporia sp. and Phellinus sp. The remaining families were represented by only one species each, including Irpicaceae (Irpex sp.), Gloeophyllaceae (Gloeophyllum sp.), Stereaceae (Stereum sp.), and Xylariaceae (Xylaria sp.). The diversity index indicates a moderate level of macrofungal diversity from all the trails in the study area, influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, seasonal changes, moisture, and rainfall. Furthermore, the study highlights the potential of these macrofungal species as sources of medicinal and nutritional value.
