Abstract

Background:Indonesia, an emerging country, faces a substantial mortality rate due to breast cancer. This high mortality rate is largely attributed to a lack of knowledge and health literacy among women, which limits their ability to independently seek and understand relevant health information. As a result, a significant proportion of breast cancer patients are only informed that their cancer is in an advanced stage during health assessments, often due to worsening health conditions. Breast cancer carries a significant risk of mortality. Objective:The aim of this study was to examine the influence of a structured training program on breast self-examination (BSE) on women's awareness and behavior. Methods:This study employed a two-group quasi-experimental design involving women aged 26 to 35 over a period of 4 months. Awareness and behavior were assessed before and after receiving organized training. A self-designed questionnaire was utilized, which was validated for its reliability. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. A total of 250 participants were included, with 125 in the intervention group and 125 in the control group. An unpaired group comparison test of awareness and behavior data was performed using the Mann-Whitney test to evaluate the differences between the control and treatment groups after the intervention. Results:The mean ± standard deviation of awareness in the control group was 45.12 ± 15.830 before the intervention and 47.96 ± 16.754 after. The mean score for post-intervention awareness in the control group was 13.67. The mean rank for awareness in the intervention group increased from 64.69 before the intervention to 45.87 after. The average rank for behavior in the control group increased from pre-control to post-control, reaching 31.80, while the behavior in the intervention group increased from pre-control to post-control, reaching 45.87. Conclusion:The results revealed a significant difference between the control group and the intervention group. A structured training program can effectively improve awareness and behavior related to routine breast self-examinations. Abstract

Hypertension is a condition in which there is an increase in systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg (RI Ministry of Health, 2019). Data released by WHO (2018) shows that around 26.4% of the world's population has hypertension with a ratio of 26.6% of men and 26.1% of women. In Indonesia, the estimated number of cases of hypertension in Indonesia is 63,309,620 people, while the death rate in Indonesia due to hypertension is 427,218 deaths. Hypertension occurs in the age group 31-44 years (31.6%), age 45-54 years (45.3%), age 55-64 years (55.2%) (Riskesdas RI Ministry of Health, 2018). Based on data from the 2018 Bengkulu Province Health Profile, it is estimated that there are 889,010 sufferers who have hypertension in Bengkulu province and only 9% receive services or utilize health services according to standards (Bengkulu Provincial Health Office, 2019). This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional research design. The population in this study were all patients seeking treatment at the Prodia Bengkulu Clinical Laboratory in 2022, totaling 1,426 patients. The sample used in this study were 93 respondents. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between cholesterol levels and the incidence of hypertension at the Prodia Bengkulu Clinical Laboratory in 2022. Viewed using the Chi-Square test (Pearson Chi-Square), a value of 9.265 is obtained with a value of p = 0.010 and there is a relationship between body mass index and the incidence of hypertension in Prodia Bengkulu Clinical Laboratory in 2022 viewed using the Chi-Square test (Pearson Chi-Square) obtained a value of 9.783 with a p value = 0.021 Suggestions can contribute information to the public, regarding the relationship between cholesterol levels and Body Mass Index with hypertension in Bengkulu City and for people with hypertension to be able to check and carry out routine checks in the laboratory

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the causes of death in women. To reduce the death rate in breast cancer sufferers, early detection is necessary, which can be done through Breast Self Examination. Where BSE is the easiest way to do it, but there are still many women who don't know how to do BSE properly. The purpose of this study is to find out how health education affects women's knowledge of BSE as a means of early breast cancer screening in Bengkulu City. This research method uses pre-experimental with one group pre-post test design. The population in this study were women aged 26-35 years with a total sample of 86 people using purposive sampling technique. The results of the T Test statistical test p value = 0.000, this shows that there is an influence of Health Education on women's level of knowledge about BSE. Health education can increase knowledge, so nurses need to carry out health education about BSE in early detection of breast cancer.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, with significant global mortality rates. The World Health Organization (WHO, 2012) reported that in 2011, over 508,000 women worldwide died from this disease, which accounts for the highest percentage of new cases at 43.3% and a mortality rate of 12.9%. Existing therapies, including surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, often accompany side effects such as pain, weakness, hair loss, and menstrual disorders. Acupressure, as a form of non-pharmacological therapy, has the potential to mitigate these side effects through the application on meridian points LI4, SP6, and LR3, selected for their relevance to the energy flow affecting pain and the reproductive system. This study investigates the impact of acupressure on points LI4, SP6, and LR3 concerning pain and menstrual disorders in patients with carcinoma mammae undergoing chemotherapy in Bengkulu City. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design and a two-group pretest-posttest with control approach, this study involved 30 participants divided into two groups: 15 in the control group and 15 in the intervention group, selected through purposive sampling. The findings indicated no significant differences in the reduction of pain and menstrual disorders between the groups, with a p-value showing no statistical significance. This suggests that acupressure might be more effective if applied continuously in the early stages of chemotherapy. These findings invite further research to explore the therapeutic potential of acupressure in managing breast cancer, particularly for mitigating chemotherapy side effects.

Abstract

Globally, breast cancer is the primary cause of death. Non-pharmacological therapy involving knowledge and practice of breast self-examination (BSE) is a straightforward, incredibly affordable, non-invasive initial diagnostic technique for early breast cancer diagnosis. The objective of this study is to examine women's knowledge and practices about breast self-examination. The method is a systematic review using PRISMA. Data sourced from searches in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar were conducted to identify relevant published studies. The data was restricted to English-language articles on women's knowledge and practice of breast self-examination published during the previous five years. The results show 15 articles that explain the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination carried out by women. The majority of women have heard of BSE but do not fail to carry out BSE regularly every month. The majority of evaluated studies demonstrated a notable correlation between participants' knowledge of breast cancer and their age, marital status, and level of education. The conclusion is that women's knowledge and practice of breast self-examination are still lacking. Hence, it is imperative to develop techniques that might enhance the awareness and adoption of breast self-examination. Although breast self-examination is generally part of a prevention and monitoring strategy, it does not replace medical or pharmacological care. The contribution of this study is to provide information that breast self-examination has several important contributions in the context of breast health and early detection of breast cancer.
