Abstract

Indonesian as a country rich in cultural values has a myriad of unique and distinctive traditional cultural arts relics in each region. Art, whatever form it takes, can be a place to accommodate all the aspirations of its people. So that art itself is not only considered a form of “beauty”, but also a representation of the characteristics of a society in question. With the variety of arts in Indonesian, this research focuses on mask arts, especially in performing arts and mask carving art. The interesting thing about the art of this mask is only seen when there is a connection between the masks on the island of Java, especially the Malang, Cirebon, and Jakarta areas with masks in Bali. Therefore, through research with a qualitative descriptive approach has identified the characteristics of tradition in mask art in Bali, Cirebon, Jakarta, and Malang. It is called mask art because there are characters and stories in these masks. This study received a discussion about the position of the four mask-producing areas as an effort to document the oral traditions that developed in the area concerned. This research ultimately resulted in the result that there is homologism and coherence of structures between the masks in Bali, Malang, Cirebon, and Jakarta, both in term of the historical spread of the mask itself, the color symbols used, musical instruments played, the stories of the shows raised, to the characteristics of the mask carving itself.

Abstract

The insertion of myth into ritual events and supernatural powers in a dance performance certainly has a greater purpose. Something sacred and considered to have supernatural powers certainly has a value that cannot be grasped by common sense, so the mysteriousness of myths is still difficult to consider as truth. In general, this research aims to comprehensively examine the myths that develop in dance performance rituals, especially in the lives of the people of Aceh, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua. This research method is qualitative research carried out by describing facts. The results of this research show that the background to the emergence of myths in ritual dance in Aceh, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Papua is based on folklore that developed in these areas. Apart from that, it was also found that the main motives for creating myths were monotheism and ecological motifs. The bond and awareness between humans, the universe, and God create a balanced relationship so that a safe, secure, and protected situation is created. In this case, it can be seen that myths are not just reports of events that previously occurred, but myths provide direction to human behavior and are a guide in determining human wisdom.

Abstract

This paper aims to provide an overview of utlisations of PJJ Corner, a feature of Universitas Terbuka’s (UT) digital library, developed through digital preservation projects to support a reading culture in the context of distance education. There are 156 digital references and 466 book collections of distance learning. This paper examines the data on the use of digital preservation in the context of distance learning in the academic context at UT. A total of 125 respondents participated in completing a questionnaire regarding digital preservation for UT's digital library. The results show that 98% of respondents already know about UT's digital library products; 80% of respondents know that there is a PJJ Corner catalog; and only 31% have accessed and utilised the PJJ Corner. Most of the access in the PJJ Corner aims to add insight related to PJJ by 33%, become a reference source by 26%, and be used for research purposes by 16%. The findings highlight the significant role of PJJ Corner in fostering reading interest and supporting academic activities, although its popularity remains lower compared to other features like Ruang Baca Virtual and UTTV. Furthermore, the PJJ Corner is making a good contribution to the development of distance learning in Indonesia through the reading activities that seek information about distance learning fields. The academic community believes that PJJ Corners can assess various reading sources online anytime and anywhere including the most recent resources and current information, as a result of the digital preservation of distance learning reference materials. Furthermore, the digital preservation of distance learning references helps them increase their reading activity for knowledge and research purposes, reference sources, and teaching materials. This study underscores the need for further promotion to enhance the utilization of PJJ Corner and the importance of digital preservation in ensuring long-term accessibility to educational materials. The results are expected to guide other institutions in developing similar initiatives to strengthen the reading culture and knowledge accessibility within academic communities.

Abstract

Distance Education has great potential to become a model for the world's future education. The rapid development of technology, the demands of the global professional world, as well as various extraordinary events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic which could recur at any time, are the main reasons for the need to implement distance education. Therefore, to maintain the existence of distance education, research is needed that can look at perceptions of brand equity, namely brand awareness and brand association with perceived quality. This research aims to explain how society accepts open and distance state colleges, particularly among students in Indonesia. The research subjects were 812 respondents obtained through probability sampling using multistage random sampling from three regions in Indonesia, namely Vocational High School Bina Warga Bandung representing western Indonesia, Public High School 16 Makassar representing Central Indonesia, and Public High School 1 Jayapura representing the eastern part of Indonesia. The results of the research show that there is a strong relationship between brand awareness and community brand association on the desire to continue studying at open and distance higher education institutions. This research providing recommendations for PTJJ should not only focus on promotion/marketing strategies to increase interest in continuing community studies at PTJJ but also focus on strategies that can increase brand equity.
