Abstract

The study aims to analyze the differences in the influence of problem-based learning models with conventional learning on students' science process skills, analyze the differences in the influence of problem-based learning models with conventional learning on students' critical thinking skills, analyze the interaction between learning and students' initial abilities on students' science process skills, and analyze the interaction between learning and students' initial abilities on students' critical thinking skills at SD Negeri 10 Sidomulio Sei Balai, Batu Bara Regency. The research method is an experiment with a 2x3 ANOVA design. The study population was fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 10 Sidomulio Sei Balai, Batu Bara Regency. The research sample was determined using a cluster random sampling technique so that a sample of 56 students was obtained. Data collection techniques were tests and non-tests. The instruments used were tests of students' science process skills and critical thinking skills in science. The data analysis technique was ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) by comparing the learning outcomes of students in each class. The results of the study concluded that there were differences in students' science process skills using the PBL learning model with students' science process skills using conventional learning. There were differences in students' critical thinking skills using the PBL learning model with students' critical thinking skills using conventional learning. There is an interaction between learning and prior abilities on students' science process skills. There is an interaction between learning and prior abilities on students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Community Service Activities (PkM) carried out in Labuan Regency aim to improve the ability of elementary schools to develop STEAM learning evaluation tools based on local culture. The main target audience of this training activity is elementary school teachers in the Labuan Banten sub-district. Based on the identification of the problem, it is known that elementary school teachers in Labuhan lack training in the development of evaluation tools, especially in STEAM learning. As a teacher, the ability to develop evaluation tools is needed to see student development. The target to be achieved in the implementation of this PKM is to increase the knowledge and skills of elementary school teachers in developing STEAM learning evaluation tools based on local culture. The method of implementing this community service activity is to use a training method that is packaged into two activities, namely seminars and workshops. The training activity began with a one-day seminar with an offline method to provide material on the scope of local culture-based STEAM learning evaluation tools, furthermore, the teachers trained themselves to develop evaluation tools with assistance from the PKM Team through online methods. The output of this service activity is a local culture-based STEAM learning evaluation tool developed by teachers and scientific publications. The results of this PkM are 3 packages of evaluation tools.

Abstract

Abstract

The growing demand for open and distance education calls for a stronger focus on student well-being, particularly mental health. This study explores the mental health landscape at Universitas Terbuka (UT), Indonesia’s national open university, which serves a geographically dispersed and diverse student population. Employing qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs), this research aims to assess mental health needs, identify contributing stressors, and develop policy recommendations to strengthen mental health support in a distance learning context. The findings indicate that students experience anxiety, stress, and burnout, exacerbated by academic pressure, social isolation, and the absence of structured counselling services. To address these challenges, the study proposes a phased strategy: short-term awareness programs, medium-term pilot e-counselling initiatives, and long-term institutional development through a centralized mental health center. This study contributes to the field of education by offering a practical framework for integrating mental health support into distance learning environments at UT, with potential implications for similar institutions across the ASEAN region and beyond.
