Abstract

Caries is a disease of the hard tissue of the teeth caused by bacteria adhering to the surface of the teeth in the form of plaque. The formation of dental plaque can be prevented by plaque control including mechanical control and chemical control, one of which is gargling using natural ingredients, namely young coconut water (Cocus Nucifera L Var. Viridis). Pure coconut water has antimicrobial activity due to its high lauric acid content and has been used as a remedy for several oral infections. This study aims to determine the effect of young coconut water gargling (Cocus Nucifera L Var. Viridis) on dental plaque. The type of research used was quasi-experimental with a pretest and posttest one group design. The sample in this study was taken by means of purposive sampling totaling 44 people. Measurements were made before and after consuming 100 ml of young coconut water (Cocus Nucifera L Var. Viridis). Plaque was measured using the Personal Hygiene Performance (PHP) method. Data analysis used the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the study gargling young coconut water (Cocos Nucifera L Var. Viridis) 1.31 and after decreasing 0.47. There was a significant difference between before and after gargling young coconut water (Cocos Nucifera L Var. Viridis) p=0.000. The conclusion in this study was that gargling with young coconut water (Cocos Nucifera L Var. Viridis) had an effect on reducing the dental plaque index

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the leading chronic diseases causing high mortality in Indonesia. Based on the 2018 Riskesdas report, the prevalence of DM reached 8.5%. Patients with DM are more susceptible to oral health problems, including gingivitis. This study aimed to determine the effect of home care dental and oral nursing care on reducing gingivitis scores among DM patients in the Sungai Tabuk Community Health Center Work Area, Banjar Regency. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach. Samples were selected through incidental sampling for one month with a total of 30 respondents. The findings showed a significant reduction in gingivitis scores after the intervention, with an average decrease of 0.8280. Statistical analysis revealed a significance value (Sig 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is lower than α (0.05). Thus, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted, indicating that home care dental and oral nursing care had a positive effect in reducing gingivitis scores among DM patients. In conclusion, home care interventions are effective in improving gingival health for individuals with DM. It is recommended that Sungai Tabuk Community Health Center integrate home care dental and oral nursing care delivered by dental therapists as part of its community dental health program

Abstract

Anak usia sekolah dasar rawan terkena penyakit gigi dan mulut dikarenakan kurangnyamemperhatikan kesehatan gigi dan mulutnya. Menurut laporan Dinas Kesehatan Kota Banjarbaru (2021),terdapat kasus karies gigi 58,5% dari semua masalah gigi dan mulut. Akumulasi plak merupakan salahsatu faktor utama karies. Akumulasi plak bisa dikontrol dengan salah satu cara yaitu metode alamiah.Metode alamiah yaitu mengunyah makanan segar dan berserat seperti buah stroberi dan apel. Tujuanpenelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh mengunyah buah stroberi (Fragaria vesca L) dengan buah apelmanalagi (Malus sylvestris Mill) terhadap penurunan skor plak pada siswa kelas IV, V dan VI SDN 4 SungaiUlin Kota Banjarbaru. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen semu. Dengan desainpenelitian Two Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Pengambilan sampel penelitian dengan teknik TotalSampling dengan jumlah responden 76 siswa. Data dianalisis dengan uji statistik Independent T-test. Hasilpenelitian terlihat skor plak sebelum mengunyah buah stroberi sebesar 2,939 dan sesudah mengunyahsebesar 1,647. Skor plak sebelum mengunyah buah apel manalagi sebesar 2,945 dan sesudahmengunyah sebesar 1,224. Hasil uji Independent T-test diperoleh ρ = 0,001 (α = 0,05) sehingga Ho ditolakdan Ha diterima. Disimpulkan Ada pengaruh mengunyah buah stroberi (Fragaria vesca L) dengan buahapel manalagi (Malus sylvestris Mill) terhadap penurunan skor plak pada siswa kelas IV, V dan VI SDN 4Sungai Ulin Kota Banjarbaru. Disarankan siswa kelas IV, V dan VI SDN 4 Sungai Ulin Kota Banjarbarumengonsumsi buah-buahan berserat sebagai alternatif untuk menurunkan skor plak dan membersihkangigi dan mulut secara alamiah
