Abstract

Dental caries suffered in school-age children can cause disruption in quality of life and disruption of daily activities due to the inability of the mastication process. The incidence of primary dental caries in children reaches 80% with a mean def-t 5.0 which in turn results in many cavities for children under 12 years old (reaching 89%). While WHO announced the target of achieving dental health services in 2010 amounting to 90% of caries-free for children aged 5 years. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the index of dental caries in children aged 5-7 years with the quality of life of the child. Where the simple random Lemeshow method is used as a sampling technique. The study was conducted using an observational analytic method based on correlation techniques conducted on 138 samples of school children. Correlation test results using the value α = 0.05 showed an opposite correlation between the index of dental caries and the quality of life of school children. Where the index which is the material for the correlation test gives a significant relationship (p <0.05) to the variables tested. Conclusion The lower the dental caries index, the higher the quality of life of school children. Keywords: dental caries, def-t index, quality of life, ECOHIS.

In class VIII students of SMPN 2 Karang Intan, Banjar Martapura Regency. This research is a quasi-experimental research type with the research design used in this study is One Group Pretest-Postest. the sampling technique in this study is total sampling. Sampling is the overall population studied is 60 students. The results showed the average plaque score before chewing watermelon 2.98, and after 1.22 while the average plaque score before chewing melon 3.01 and after 1.66. Based on the results of statistical analysis using the Independent T-Test, p = 0.006 <α = 0.05. Keywords: Watermelon, Melon, Score plaque

The majority scored 2 on the CPITN scale (61.8%), underscoring the demand for attention from healthcare providers including community health workers, dentists, and dental nurses. Recommendations stress the pivotal role of oral health maintenance for diabetes mellitus individuals. These suggestions encompass regular blood sugar monitoring, consistent dental hygiene, tartar removal, denture care, and eliminating local factors causing gum infections. Periodontal disease's impact on daily life includes chewing difficulties, speech impediments, and tooth loss, accentuating the urgency of preventive measures for diabetes mellitus patients. In summary, proactive preventive actions are crucial to address periodontal disease among diabetes mellitus individuals, aiming to diminish its occurrence and improve their overall well-being and quality of life.

Abstract

Dental caries is a dental and oral health problem that has a fairly high prevalence in the community. The percentage of caries sufferers tends to be high, in children under 18 years old reaching 60-90%. The pH (Potential of Hydrogen) acidity of saliva is one of the important factors that play a role in dental caries. pH control can be done mechanically , namely by gargling. One of the mouthwashes made from natural ingredients is mouthwash from binahong leaves because it contains flavanoids and essential oils that are antimicrobial and antibacterial. This study aims to analyze the effect of gargling with binahong leaf solution (Anredera Cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) on saliva pH in students of grades VII A and VII B of SMP Negeri 4 Banjarbaru. The research is analytical with a type of pseudo-experimental research with a Pretest and Posttest One Group Design research design. The sampling technique is Total Sampling. The results of this study showed that the average pH of saliva before gargling of binahong leaf solution (Anredera Cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) was 6.70, while the average pH of saliva after gargling of binahong leaf solution (Anredera Cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) was 7.08. The results of the Paired T-Test statistical test obtained a value of ρ = 0.000 < α = 0.05. In conclusion, there is an effect of gargling with binahong leaf solution (Anredera Cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) on saliva pH in students of grades VII A and VIII B of SMPN 4 Banjarbaru, which can increase the pH of saliva which was initially acidic to neutral. It is recommended that socialization can be carried out by dental health workers or schools about the use of binahong leaves to maintain dental and oral health and preserve binahong leaf plants through the cultivation program of medicinal plants in schools.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the most common forms of malnutrition. This condition can hinder a child's development, including the development of the oral cavity. Children who experience stunting are more vulnerable to dental caries due to changes in the characteristics of saliva. This study aims to understand the relationship between maternal education level and the incidence of dental caries in children with stunting in Pulau Nyiur Village, Karang Intan Subdistrict, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. Dental caries in stunted children can be influenced by several factors, including the mother's knowledge and education in maintaining children's dental health and dietary habits. This research uses a quantitative descriptive method with data collected through questionnaires distributed to mothers of stunted children in the village. The results of the study are expected to provide an overview of the impact of maternal education level on the prevalence of dental caries in stunted children, as well as to offer insights for child health improvement programs, particularly in rural areas.
