Abstract

The combination of tea leaf dregs extract and rice washing water as a peel-off gel mask was found to be stable up to 28 days of storage and had an IC50 value 20.4 ppm. This potential can provide an optimal effects as cosmetic ingredients. However, to meet the regulatory requirements of Badan Pengawas Obat Makanan (BPOM) RI and ISO 10993, a dermal sensitization test also need to be done. The aim of this study was to determine the dermal sensitization reaction from peel-off gel mask containing a combination of tea leaf dregsextract (Camellia sinensis L.) and rice washing water (Oryza sativa L.) in test animal. Thisstudy was designed based on experimental laboratory methods and sample selection by simple random sampling. The intervention was given based on posttest-only control group design. The test results for dermal sensitization were determined using the Guinea Pig Maximization Test (GPMT) method. The results showed erythema and edema reactions according to the Magnusson and Kligman scale after administration of peel-off gel masks as samples in the topical tests in test animals, appeared on the 11th day and in the challenge test appeared on the 24th day. This was due to incubation period for one week where the hypersensitivity state can develop, so that this reaction is also called the delayed hypersensitivity reaction

Abstract

Background: Dandruff, primarily caused by Pityrosporum ovale, is a common scalp disorder, especially in tropical regions. Natural alternatives, such as water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica), are increasingly being explored for their antimicrobial properties due to their minimal side effects. Objective: This study aimed to formulate an anti-dandruff shampoo using ethanol extract of water spinach and evaluate its physical properties and antifungal activity against P. ovale. Results: The phytochemical screening of the water spinach extract confirmed the presence of polyphenols, flavonoids, and quinones, known for their antimicrobial properties. The shampoo formulations met pH and foam height standards and remained organoleptically stable over 28 days. However, viscosity decreased below the standard (<400 cps) after 28 days. The 4% extract formulation (F3) showed the highest antifungal activity with an inhibition zone of 10.01 mm, significantly greater than the negative control (p<0.05). Conclusion: Water spinach ethanol extract can be successfully formulated into a shampoo that meets most physical requirements and exhibits antifungal activity against P. ovale. The 4% extract formulation demonstrated the highest effectiveness, though viscosity stability requires further optimization.

Abstract

Hydrocortisone Sodium Succinate 50mg injection is widely used in perinatology wards. These wards cater to newborns (0-28 days), low birth weight (<2.5 kg), or premature babies (<37 weeks), requiring special handling. The use of this injection requires a very small dose, so one vial of hydrocortisone injection can be used for more than one patient. Therefore, the remainder of this hydrocortisone injection is often stored for 24 hours in the refrigerator which will later be reused on other patients. This study aims to determine the in-use stability of hydrocortisone injection stored for 24 hours at 4oC and 25oC. This is certainly to improve patient safety. The data collection technique uses an observational method on hydrocortisone injection samples with 3 replications. In-use stability is assessed from the results of organoleptic tests, pH tests, viscosity tests, determination of drug levels using UV-VIS spectrophotometry and sterility tests. Testing was conducted on days 0, 1, 2, 3, 7, 14 and 30. The results of the study showed that hydrocortisone injection preparations stored for 1 day at 4°C or 25°C in the perinatology ward were no longer physicochemically stable (concentration). Chemical degradation began on day 1, then microbial contamination occurred immediately after completion of compounding in the ward (day 0). This is because reconstitution was not carried out in a clean room in accordance with USP <797>. It can be concluded that hydrocortisone injection preparations prepared in this hospital are not recommended for administration to patients after 1 day of storage and must be compounded in a clean room.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major public health concern, contributing significantly to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Poor adherence to antihypertensive medications and lack of patient knowledge remain critical challenges in hypertension management. Pharmacists play a vital role in addressing these issues through counseling and patient education. This study aims to analyze the impact of pharmacist counseling on medication adherence, patient knowledge, and blood pressure control among hypertensive patients. A literature review was conducted, utilizing peer-reviewed research articles published between 2019 and 2025 from databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Studies focusing on pharmacist counseling interventions in hypertension management were included, while duplicate or non-relevant studies were excluded. Data analysis followed a qualitative framework, including data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing to identify significant patterns and trends. The results indicate that pharmacist-led counseling improves medication adherence, enhances patients' understanding of hypertension management, and contributes to better blood pressure control. Patients receiving pharmacist counseling demonstrate higher adherence rates, greater awareness of their condition, and a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels. Furthermore, pharmacist interventions promote lifestyle modifications, such as dietary adjustments, increased physical activity, and smoking cessation, further contributing to improved hypertension management. Despite these positive outcomes, challenges remain in implementing pharmacist counseling effectively due to healthcare system limitations, patient-related barriers, and resource constraints. This study highlights the need for stronger integration of pharmacists in hypertension care and further research into the long-term impact of pharmacist-led interventions.
