Abstract

This research explains the opportunities that Indonesia has as one of the countries with the largest number of sharia fintech in the world, which reached 61 companies in 2021. The study also discusses regulations and business models that can support the development of sharia fintech in Indonesia, given the importance of a clear legal framework to maintain trust and compliance with sharia principles. In addition, the analysis of public interest in sharia fintech shows that there is great potential for further development, although there are still challenges that need to be overcome such as financial literacy and access to technology. Overall, this study concludes that sharia fintech has great potential to support the economic empowerment of the people through inclusive and sharia-compliant financial services. However, to realize this potential, collaboration between the government, industry players, and the community is needed to create an ecosystem that is conducive to the development of sharia fintech.

Abstract

This study examines the institutionalization of social entrepreneurship within pesantren (Islamic boarding school) business units in East Java and its contribution to sustainable community empowerment. A qualitative multiple-case study approach was employed, using in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis across five pesantren with established business units. The findings reveal that social entrepreneurship is institutionalized through the integration of Islamic values, local wisdom, and entrepreneurial practices. Visionary leadership, stakeholder collaboration, hybrid social-commercial strategies, and organizational learning emerge as the main institutional drivers. The study introduces the concept of Spiritual-Social Value Recoupling, describing how religious values reshape business practices to prioritize social welfare alongside economic sustainability. Despite challenges related to resource dependency, leadership succession, and mission drift, pesantren business units have generated multidimensional impacts, including economic empowerment, educational improvement, social welfare, and environmental responsibility. The findings enrich social entrepreneurship theory within faith-based organizations and provide practical insights for strengthening sustainable community development.

Abstract

This paper examines the deductive method used by the Ushul Fiqh Mutakallimin madhhab and its implications for moderate fiqh thought. Madzhab Ushul Fiqh Mutakallimin is one of the schools of thought in the science of Ushul Fiqh which has a strong deductive approach in understanding sharia laws. This paper involves an in-depth analysis of the basic principles of the deductive method used by the Ushul Fiqh Mutakallimin madhhab, including the use of textual postulates and qiyas (analogies) in determining the laws of fiqh. In the contemporary context, moderate fiqh thought is particularly relevant in the face of the complex challenges faced by Muslims. A more flexible understanding of sharia laws can help in addressing various social and moral problems that arise in modern society. Therefore, an understanding of the deductive method of the Ushul Fiqh Mutakallimin madhhab and its implications for moderate fiqh thought has important relevance in developing fiqh insights that are in accordance with the demands of the times.

Abstract

Gold remains one of the most culturally familiar and financially trusted investment instruments among Indonesian households. However, the common explanation that households buy gold solely because it is a safe-haven asset is, from an analytical perspective, still incomplete. This study revises and strengthens the original paper by examining how investment knowledge and risk perceptions influence households’ decisions to invest in gold in Lamongan, East Java. Using a qualitative descriptive design, this study analyzes households’ investment narratives as well as supporting institutional data from Pegadaian Lamongan. Empirical patterns show a significant increase in gold savings activity: gold savings rose from 5,659 grams in 2023 to 16,849 grams as of April 14, 2026, while the number of active customers increased from 2,923 to 5,359 during the same period. These figures indicate that gold has become more than just a traditional store of wealth; it is increasingly being used as a practical financial planning tool. The study’s findings suggest that household decisions are influenced by three interrelated mechanisms. First, investment knowledge enables households to distinguish gold from regular savings, evaluate price fluctuations, understand the bid-ask spread, and choose between physical and digital gold products more carefully. Second, risk perception does not always hinder investment; rather, it filters the type, timing, and channels of gold investment. Third, household decisions are socially embedded through family discussions, intergenerational experiences, and trust in formal institutions. This study contributes to the fields of behavioral finance and Planned Behavior Theory by demonstrating that the perceived value of gold as a safe haven is translated into household actions through perceptions of control, practical knowledge, and socially constructed risk. Policy implications highlight the need for targeted financial education that not only explains the benefits of gold but also addresses liquidity costs, price volatility, storage security, digital platform risks, and portfolio diversification.

Abstract

One of the objectives of this study is to find out the extent to which owners and managers of MSMEs in Lamongan Regency apply Sharia law in buying and selling activities (al-bay'). This study uses a qualitative descriptive methodology. Eight micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) managers from various industry sectors were interviewed through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing are all part of the interactive model used for data analysis. The survey results show that buying and selling activities carried out by small and medium business managers (SMEs) mostly comply with sharia values, including honesty, fairness, transparency, and avoiding gharar and usury. Everything has been established and agreed upon from the beginning, including a pricing system that is based on reasonable costs and profits. However, MSME actors' understanding of the concept of sharia is still practical and not theoretically comprehensive. Factors that affect sharia compliance include the level of understanding, business experience, religiosity, social environment, as well as external factors such as market conditions and consumer behavior. Thus, efforts are needed to increase sharia economic literacy through education and continuous assistance so that the implementation of sharia compliance can be carried out more optimally and consistently in daily business practices.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of Islamic entrepreneurship curriculum and kyai role models on students' start-up intentions within pesantren-based higher education institutions in Lamongan Regency. The low entrepreneurial interest among pesantren graduates constitutes the fundamental problem underlying this research, despite the fact that Islamic values such as independence (istiqlaliyah), diligence (etos jihad ekonomi), and honesty (amanah) are inherently strong foundations for sustainable entrepreneurship. The study employed a quantitative approach using questionnaire instruments distributed to 122 active student respondents through Google Form. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 through validity tests, reliability tests, classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression analysis, t-tests, F-tests, and coefficient of determination (R²). Results indicate that the Islamic entrepreneurship curriculum has a positive and significant effect on start-up intention (t = 4.217; p < 0.05), the kyai role model also has a positive and significant effect on start-up intention (t = 3.891; p < 0.05), and simultaneously both variables have a significant effect (F = 28.453; p < 0.01) contributing 32.4% (R² = 0.324). These findings support the development of a santripreneur incubation model that integrates Islamic value-based learning with ulama exemplar mentorship as an effective strategy for promoting student entrepreneurship in Lamongan.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Islamic financial literacy and digital Islamic financial behavior on students’ intention to save in Islamic banking institutions among students in Lamongan. The research employed a quantitative approach with an associative design involving 110 active students selected through purposive sampling. Respondents were required to have knowledge of Islamic banking services and experience using digital financial instruments. Data were collected through Likert-scale questionnaires and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics, including validity, reliability, classical assumption, multiple linear regression, t-test, F-test, and coefficient of determination analyses. The findings indicate that Islamic financial literacy has a positive but insignificant effect on students’ saving intention, as reflected by a significance value of 0.112 (>0.05). In contrast, digital Islamic financial behavior has a positive and significant effect, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a regression coefficient of 0.510. Simultaneously, both independent variables significantly influence saving intention, as indicated by an F-value of 119.446 (p = 0.000). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.691 shows that 69.1% of the variation in students’ saving intention can be explained by Islamic financial literacy and digital Islamic financial behavior. The novelty of this study lies in integrating Islamic financial literacy and digital financial behavior within a single conceptual model. The study concludes that digital financial behavior aligned with Islamic principles is the dominant factor influencing students’ intention to save in Islamic banks.
