Abstract

This study aims to determine: 1) the effectiveness of the application of the problem-based learning (PBL) model assisted by visual media in improving the ability (writing) of discussion texts and students' self-confidence; 2) correlation between self-confidence and ability to write discussion text; 3) describe student performance during learning to write discussion texts using problem-based learning methods assisted by visual media. The type of research is quasi-experimental with the student population of MTsN 2 West Bandung; 4) students' difficulties in writing exposition texts. The research sample was class IX E as the control class, and class IX F as the experimental class. There are 30 students in each class. The results showed: 1) the ability to write discussion texts and the confidence of MTs students who studied using the PBL model with the aid of visual media were better than students who learned using conventional methods; 2) there is a correlation between self-confidence and the ability to write discussion texts; 3) During the implementation of this PBL model, the activities of teachers and students were categorized as very good. The results of the final knowledge test show that the average acquisition of the experimental class is in the medium category, while the control class shows the poor category. The average final skill score shows that the experimental class gets a better score than the control class. The difficulties experienced by the two classes during the practice of writing discussion texts generally lie in the activity of assembling sentences into a complete text according to the structure and rules and concluding controversial arguments.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the problem-based learning model supported by YouTube media in improving the skills of writing explanatory texts in class VIII students of Mts Plus An-nur Sumedang. Through a structured problem-solving process, students actively seek information from various relevant YouTube videos. The results of the study indicate; the application of the PBL learning model assisted by Youtube can improve the ability to write explanatory texts and the learning interest of class VIII students of MTs Plus An-Nuur Sumedang. This is evidenced by the increase in test scores, so the value of the ability to write explanatory texts of students before using the PBL model assisted by Youtube was 65,640 and after using the PBL model assisted by Youtube was 86,200. ability to write explanatory texts. This study concludes that the PBL learning model assisted by Youtube is effective in improving the ability to write explanatory texts and the learning interest of class VIII students of MTs Plus An-Nuur Sumedang.

Abstract

The ability to explore important information in historical narrative text is one of the important abilities that must be possessed by elementary school students in Indonesian language materials. Based on the analysis of pretest results of grade VI students on the ability of students to dig up important information in historical texts at SDN Karawang Wetan III, it was found that students still had difficulty in classifying information using aspects: what, who, when, where, why, and how. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant difference in the skill of digging up information on historical texts between groups of students taught using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model assisted by Mind Mapping and groups of students taught not using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model assisted by Mind Mapping for grade VI students at SDN Karawang Wetan III, East Karawang District, 2022/2023 academic year. This research is a pseudo-experiment. This research design is a non-equivalent post-test only control group design. The population of this study were all grade VI students at SDN Karawang Wetan III, East Karawang District, totaling 106 students. The research sample was class VI B students totaling 35 people as the experimental class and class VI C students 35 people as the control class. The data collection method was carried out by the test method, namely with an objective test instrument (multiple choice). The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis techniques and t-test inferential statistical analysis techniques. The results of the analysis showed that the average score of students' historical text information retrieval skills using the CIRC learning model assisted by mind mapping was 23.47 and students who were taught not using the CIRC learning model assisted by mind mapping was 16.09. Hypothesis testing using t-test shows that t-count > ttabel (t-count = 7.73 > ttabel =1.99714). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the skills of digging up historical text information between students who are taught using the learning model (CIRC) assisted by mind mapping and students who are taught not using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model assisted by mind mapping in class VI at SDN Karawang Wetan III for the 2022-2023 academic year.
