Abstract

Increasingly advanced technology has made it easier to access various aspects, including the culture of various countries, which makes it possible to exchange information and adopt technology and knowledge from these countries. Language plays an important role in supporting this. Language skills can be instilled from an early age, especially in children aged between 6-10 years, which is an important period for their intellectual and personality development. At this age, children's brains have the ability to absorb information quickly, especially things that are interesting to them, including in the context of language learning. This research aims to explore the effectiveness of Arabic language learning methods in the learning process of students at the Diniyah Awaliyah Madrasah. This research uses qualitative research, with data collection through interviews, observation and documentation. The research results showed that the three learning methods used (hifdzil method, game method, and singing method) were proven to be effective in increasing children's knowledge. This is reflected in students' ability to memorize vocabulary, their ability to pronounce Arabic letters fluently, increased memory, and their ability to be creative. This method can also motivate students to learn more.

Abstract

The World Health Organization defines sanitation as the provision of facilities and services for the disposal of human excreta, such as urine and feces, including family latrines. In 2019, the percentage of families in Banten province using latrines was 70.5%, lower than the national average of 72.3% for those using permanent sanitary latrines. Sanitation is related to environmental health, which influences public health. Poor sanitation conditions have negative impacts on various aspects of life, ranging from the degradation of community environmental quality to the contamination of drinking water sources, the increase in diarrheal diseases, and the emergence of other illnesses. Diarrheal diseases are potential endemic diseases with outbreaks often resulting in fatalities in Indonesia. The prevalence of diarrhea in 2018, diagnosed by healthcare professionals, was 6.8%, and based on self-reported symptoms, it was 8%. This study aims to determine the relationship between the quality of family latrines and the occurrence of diarrhea in the Mekarsari Community Health Center area, Lebak Regency, using a cross-sectional study design. The study population consists of all families with family latrines (goose-neck latrines) in the Mekarsari Community Health Center area, with a sample size of 88 families. Statistical chi-square tests were conducted at an alpha level of 0.05. The results indicate that nearly all respondents (93.2%) were male, predominantly in the productive age group (96.6%). The majority of respondents had low levels of education (67%), and almost all were non-civil servants (97.7%). Monthly income for most respondents (73.9%) was below the Lebak Regency Minimum Wage (< Rp 2,944,665). A proportion (17%) of families still had low-quality latrines, and some family members suffered from diarrhea (13.6%). There is a significant association between latrine quality and the occurrence of diarrhea (p=0.005). Families with low-quality latrines are over seven times more likely to suffer from diarrhea compared to those with high-quality latrines (OR=7.44). Empowerment through health education and support is necessary to enable families to understand, accept, and adopt behaviors to improve, construct, and maintain family latrines, thus ensuring diarrhea-free households.

Abstract

Family latrines, crucial for sanitation, impact community health. In 2019, Banten had 70.5% latrine use, below the national 72.3%. Poor sanitation causes diseases like helminthiasis, affecting many, especially children. This study aims to determine the relationship between the quality of family latrines and the incidence of helminthiasis in the Mekarsari Health Center area of Lebak Regency. The study used a cross-sectional design. The population included all families with goose-neck latrines in the Mekarsari Health Center area, with a sample size of 88 families. Data analysis was conducted in stages using the chi-square test at an alpha level of 0.05. The results showed that nearly all respondents (93.2%) were male, 96.6% were of productive age, most had low education levels (67%), and nearly all were non-civil servants (97.7%). The majority (73.9%) had a monthly income below the Lebak Regency minimum wage (< Rp 2,944,665). There were still 17% of families with low-quality latrines, and 9.1% of family members suffered from or were infected with helminthiasis (Ancylostoma duodenale). The relationship test results showed a significant relationship between latrine quality and helminthiasis incidence, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<α). The OR value was 63,000, meaning that families with low-quality latrines were 63 times more likely to suffer from or be infected with helminthiasis compared to families with high-quality latrines. The conclusion is that there is a relationship between the quality of latrines and the incidence of helminthiasis in the Mekarsari Health Centre Area, Lebak Regency. Serious efforts are needed to empower families through health education and assistance to encourage them to improve, construct, and maintain quality latrines to prevent helminthiasis infections.

Abstract

Stunting in children under five years of age remains a serious public health problem in Indonesia because it affects physical growth, cognitive development, and long-term productivity. This study aims to analyse mothers' knowledge and skills in preventing stunting and the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and these two aspects in the working area of the Malingping Community Health Centre, Banten. The study used a descriptive-analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach involving 80 mothers of toddlers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analysed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test. The results showed that most mothers did not know the definition of stunting (81.3%), its causes (86.3%), signs (83.8%), or how to prevent it (88.8%). Mothers' skills in prevention were also low, with 78.8% unable to prepare a balanced complementary feeding menu, 73.7% lacking hygiene when preparing food, and 81.2% rarely monitoring their children's growth. Bivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between education and knowledge (p = 0.721), but there was a significant relationship between education and skills (p = 0.039). This study concludes that although mothers' knowledge about stunting is still low, practical skills are more influenced by education level. These findings emphasise the importance of educational interventions that not only increase knowledge but also build mothers' practical skills through community-based approaches and support from health cadres.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Breathing clean, fresh air without exposure to cigarette smoke is a fundamental human right. The WHO states that diseases caused by exposure to cigarette smoke are a global health problem. 70% of smoking-related deaths occur in developing countries, including Indonesia. Advocacy for Smoke-Free Areas is crucial, given the increasing prevalence of smoking among all groups, including adolescents, globally, nationally, and regionally. Implementing existing regulations is crucial. Various obstacles are often encountered, so support from various parties is essential, including stakeholders, policymakers, and all levels of society. The government aims for all regencies/cities in Indonesia to have regulations on Smoke-Free Areas (KTR). Lebak Regency already has Regional Regulation (Perda) No. 3 of 2023 on KTR, but this KTR Regulation needs to be refined with the establishment of a KTR Task Force and a Regent's Regulation (Perbup). Full cross-sectoral support has not been provided. Currently, only two regional government agencies (SKPD) in Lebak Regency have implemented designated smoking areas: the Health Office and the Education Office, which are open-air gazebos. The cigarette market has also expanded with the introduction of e-cigarettes, a type of kretek cigarette, and therefore the advertising/advertising ban also applies. The Lebak Regency Non-Smoking Area Advocacy Team has carried out activities according to the established plan, including an audience with the Regional Assistant for Economic and Development, advocacy, socialization of the Non-Smoking Area Regional Regulation and the inauguration of the Non-Smoking Area Task Force in Lebak Regency, a podcast about Non-Smoking Areas (KTR), an article competition on the dangers of smoking and a Non-Smoking Area Banner Design Competition, as well as socialization of Non-Smoking Areas (KTR) and the dangers of smoking at the Car Free Day event in Rangkasbitung City, Lebak Regency, Banten Province. Keywords: Smoke-Free Areas (KTR).
