Abstract

ntroduction: Pandanus spp. are tropical plants widely recognized for their ethnomedicinal use and diverse phytochemical constituents, including flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolic compounds with pharmacological potential. Despite this, global research on Pandanus remains fragmented and lacks systematic mapping. Objective: This study aimed to perform a bibliometric analysis of Pandanus research related to pharmacological potential and bioactivity using Scopus-indexed literature. Method: A Scopus search was conducted using taxonomic and pharmacological keywords without time restrictions, limited to English-language articles, reviews, and conference papers. Eligible records were analyzed with Bibliometrix (Biblioshiny) for bibliometric indicators and VOSviewer for visualization. Metrics included publication trends, citations, authorship, institutional and country contributions, co-citation networks, and keyword co-occurrence. Conclusion: Between 1984–2024, publications exhibited steady growth, with early studies maintaining citation relevance for decades. Productivity was concentrated among a few authors, notably Nonato MG, supported by institutions such as Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and other Southeast Asian universities. Collaboration networks were primarily Asia-centered, with Indonesia and India as key hubs. Keyword mapping revealed four thematic clusters: phytochemistry and antioxidants, taxonomy and isolation, pharmacology and metabolism, and ethnomedicine. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology emerged as the primary publication outlet. Pandanus research reflects sustained interest, regional leadership, and thematic diversity. Broader international collaborations and advanced pharmacological investigations are essential to fully realize the therapeutic promise of Pandanus-derived compounds.

Abstract

Essential oils are fragrance agents in plants. Essential oils have a volatile component in some plants with certain characteristics. At present, essential oils have been used as perfume, cosmetics, food additives and medicine. Empiric ethnopharmacology studies on aromatherapy plants show that Indonesia has 49 types of aromatic plants from 22 types of tribes, 12 of which are empirically used as aromatherapy with calming and refreshing effects (Sangat 1996 in Rahmawati, 2010). One example of aromatherapy used is the ginger rhizome (Curcuma xanthorrihza Roxb) and Lavender Flower (Lavandula angustifolia Mill.). This study aims to isolate and identify the essential oils of Temulawak rhizome (Curcuma xanthorrihza Roxb) and Lavender Flowers (Lavandula angustifolia Mill.). The essential oil isolation step uses the Steam Water Distillation method, after which the essential oil obtained is identified to ensure its purity. The results showed that Temulawak essential oil and Lavender essential oil were carried out using the water distillation method, obtained levels of 2.3% and 1.8%. Essential oils in Temulawak were identified by testing their physical properties which include specific gravity, solubility in ethanol 90%, solubility in chloroform and oil in NaCl. The identification results obtained in the Temulawak rhizome and Lavender plants are specific gravity 0.9436 and 0.8221. Solubility in ethanol 90% with a volume ratio of 1: 3.7 mL and 1: 3.3 mL. solubility in chloroform of 1: 3.3 mL and 1: 3.3 mL. on the addition of NaCl in the oil oil reduction occurs.

Abstract

Introduction: Because drug abuse and other issues may arise from the increased use of pharmaceuticals without proper understanding, determining the Beyond Use Date (BUD) is of the utmost importance. Since women may serve as "home pharmacists" and encourage self-sufficiency in health management, it is crucial to educate them about BUD. The goal of this pharmacist-led community service project is to educate housewives about BUD so that they may better manage their medications at home. Approach: Conversation and socializing were the tools used. By comparing the pre- and post-test scores, we were able to determine how helpful the therapy was. We distributed educational materials via BUD-related pamphlets. Higher post-test results compared to the pre-test showed that education on BUD increased knowledge. Conclusion: The PKK (Family Welfare Empowerment) members' understanding of BUD was enhanced by this Pharmacist Community Service activity's use of socializing and discussion to impart information.. Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a major health challenge globally and in Indonesia, where 2021 data reported 19.4 million cases and 236,711 deaths. In Banyumas Regency, cases reached 22,836 by 2024, notably in East Purwokerto and Sokaraja. This community service initiative aimed to enhance public knowledge of diabetes prevention and management through health promotion. Conducted by pharmacist professional students from Universitas Harapan Bangsa in Kranji and Kalikidang Villages, the program followed a three-stage methodology: preparation involving problem analysis, implementation using PowerPoint and discussions, and evaluation. Educational materials covered diabetes types, risk factors, lifestyle modifications, and the use of herbal drinks as low-side-effect alternative treatments. Results indicated successful implementation and high community enthusiasm. Most participants were unemployed women over 30, identified as a high-risk group due to insufficient physical activity. The evaluation emphasized that using simple language and mastering herbal medicine topics are crucial for meeting practical community needs. In conclusion, health promotion effectively increases public understanding as a vital preventive measure to reduce diabetes prevalence in the Purwokerto. This activity demonstrates that structured educational intervention, when tailored to local demographics and practical interests like herbal remedies, can significantly strengthen community-based efforts in managing chronic metabolic diseases and improving overall public health outcomes
