Abstract

The concept of diffraction and interference of light is one of the abstract concepts of physics. The process of light diffraction and interference occurs in the abstract. Learning about diffraction and light interference requires media that represent the events. Cognitive structures can represent the quality of students' understanding. Learning Physics is easier to understand through direct experience in the form of practicum. Abstract Physics concepts will be easier to learn with the appropriate visualization. One of the virtual practicums' media uses PhET virtual simulations to improve students' cognitive structure is measured using concept map questions and supported by description questions. The purpose of this research is to increase the cognitive structure of students by using PhET. This research is quantitative research and the experimental design used the experiment method. There are three groups in the experiment, that is a virtual simulation, a real practicum as an experiment class, and a control class. The results of the one-way ANOVA test on the concept map questions showed a significance value (p) 0.05, meaning that there were differences in cognitive structure between groups. The significance value (p) between the virtual simulation group and the real practicum group was 0.014, while the significance value between the virtual simulation group and the control class was 0.00, meaning that there was a significant difference in learning effectiveness between groups. Based on the data of the research concluded that physics learning assisted by virtual simulations can develop students' cognitive structures on the concepts of diffraction and light interference.

Abstract

Due to their properties, ZnO nanoparticles have recently been used as an additive material in active food packaging. ZnO has a wide band gap of about 3.37 eV, making it effectively used under UV light. However, ZnO nanoparticles are not effectively used under visible light. This study successfully synthesized ZnO-Chitosan-Citronella Essential Oil hybrid nanoparticles using sol-gel methods. Adding chitosan and citronella essential oil will affect nanoparticles' structural and optical properties.  The structural, morphological, and optical properties of characterized hybrid nanoparticles were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and FTIR, scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), and UV-Vis spectroscopy. From XRD, it was obtained that the ZnO nanoparticles produced have a hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure with angles of 2q = 31.76°, 34.48°, 36.30° which are crystal planes with orientations (100), (002), and (101), as well as several other peaks for planes (102), (110), (103), (200) and (112) with a crystallinity index value of 86.5390%, and crystallite size of 8.87nm and 7.5335 nm. From FTIR Characterization, Zn=O functional groups were also obtained at wave numbers 657 and 475 cm-1. The morphology of ZnO nanoparticles from SEM spectroscopy shows a spherical shape with agglomeration, and the composition of the components Zn, O, and N elements is found, which come from chitosan materials. Furthermore, from the UV-Vis spectroscopy characterization, it was obtained that the absorption occurred in the 380-600 nm region with a band gap energy of 3.25 eV (using the tauc plot method), which was slightly different from the empirical results of 3.30 eV. The results show potential future studies of hybrid nanoparticles, such as additive materials in active food packaging.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a set of e-diagnostic four-tier tests on Momentum topics that can be utilized to identify students' learning difficulties and misconceptions. The tests are to be valid, reliable, and effective. This research and development (R&D) project employed the 4-D model, which encompasses the following four stages: Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. The Define stage entailed a comprehensive needs analysis and identification of critical issues, while the Design stage encompassed the formulation of e-diagnostic four-tier test grids and instruments. The development stage comprised the implementation of development activities, expert validation, product testing, and the final assembly of the product. The dissemination stage involved the publication of the results of the development of the e-diagnostic four-tier test. The test was constructed in the form of a five-option multiple-choice test. Each question comprises four tiers or levels, ranging from questions, confidence levels, and reasons to the subsequent confidence level. The data collection instrument includes an assessment sheet for product validity, scoring guidelines, and a Likert scale for determining the practicality of product use. The data analysis technique employs the following formulas: (1) Aiken's V for testing validity, (2) Cronbach Alpha for determining reliability, (3) probability of answering correctly to ascertain the level of difficulty of the items, (4) differentiating power to determine the differentiating power, and (5) percentage to measure the level of misconception. The outcome of this research is a series of four-level diagnostic multiple-choice tests accompanied by explanatory material designed to address potential misconceptions. The tests have been evaluated rigorously for validity, item analysis, practicality, and effectiveness.
