Abstract

This paper aims to determine the synergy of culture, Islamic education and national character development. Culture is the first step in shaping the character of students (younger generations) from the perspective of the people who own the culture. Meanwhile, Islamic education forms the character of students (younger generations) through the transmission of knowledge based on the values of universality of Islamic education and learning interactions. Thus, the two of them can create synergy to shape the character of the nation for students (younger generations) in the future.

Abstract

This study investigates the traditional concepts and mathematical practices of the Javanese people as found in Serat Centhini Kamajaya volumes IX–XII, focusing on how they performed measurements. The research employs a qualitative ethnomathematical approach using a framework based on four key questions: where to look, how to look, what it is, and what it means. Data were drawn from the transliteration of Serat Centhini volumes IX–XII and analyzed using content analysis, triangulation, and pattern identification across six basic mathematical activities. The study identifies sixteen traditional Javanese measurement terms in Serat Centhini IX–XII, including sacengkang, lengen, sapungge, ula sawa, kilan, pêcak, sagêgêm, glintir, sairis, jodho, sakêpêl, saklêmuk, saontong, poros, pulukan, and tangkeb. These terms illustrate the close relationship between culture and mathematical reasoning. The findings highlight the embeddedness of mathematical concepts in Javanese cultural expressions and support the integration of ethnomathematics into culturally responsive education.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the synergy between local culture and public policy in the packaging of local wisdom-based tourism in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi. The study focuses on identifying supporting and inhibiting factors across three main dimensions: (a) political aspects, related to regulations, permits, and budget allocation; (b) socioeconomic aspects, concerning community empowerment, job creation, and micro-enterprise development in the tourism sector; and (c) environmental aspects, including nature conservation, tourist area security, and ecotourism development. Using a qualitative approach through case studies, this research reveals that culture-based tourism packaging requires integration between the government, tourism operators, and local communities. The findings indicate that although local wisdom has significant potential in shaping destination identity, policy implementation is often hampered by weak inter-agency coordination, budget constraints, and low ecotourism literacy at the community level. Therefore, synergy between community-centered public policies and the preservation of local culture is key to realizing sustainable, inclusive, and equitable tourism.

Abstract

Abstract

Conserved Javanese manuscripts hold a wealth of visual richness and aesthetic value that remains largely unexplored, particularly in the illuminative elements which serve not only as decoration but also as illustrative support to the textual content. This study aims to propose an invitation card design inspired by the illuminations found in ancient manuscripts, as a form of cultural adaptation within the creative industry. The research employs a descriptive-qualitative method and content analysis. The primary object of study is the illumination in the manuscript Serat Jayalengkara Wulang, codex Add MS 12310, housed in the British Library. The adaptation process comprises five stages: (1) selection of illumination elements, (2) redrawing using the Procreate application, (3) stylization for form simplification, (4) layout arrangement for the invitation design, and (5) final rendering for production purposes. The end product is a market-ready digital invitation design, available for e-commerce distribution. This study demonstrates that Javanese manuscript illuminations can be creatively adapted as visual elements that hold both aesthetic and historical value, while also enhancing product appeal within the creative industry. The findings open new possibilities for utilizing intangible cultural heritage, which has traditionally focused more on script than on visual elements such as illumination.
