Abstract

Language is a tool to express feeling, idea, and share information. Language reflections  the speakers who have many things in common such as tradition, background, values and customs, then they have their own culture in communication among them.  Thus, it can be said that they have their own standard for leveling the social class, sexual orientation, language home, and gender roles in the society. Since language is a part of culture so  learners need to be aware of values in the society. For instance, learners, speakers of the language itself  or whoever interest  to  the language need to see the roles of male and female in the professional   and daily life which has been shifted from unpopular profession for female workers to favored career.  It cannot be ignored that in the  dreality, several English guidebooks for students still contain unresponsive gender pictures as media to introduce English material.  Women are profiled as nurses, housekeepers, nannies, and other unpopular positions while man  are figured as directors, CEO, pilots, doctors, and other most-wanted careers. In fact, the roles of women and men have been shifted and they have  equal   position now in professional life. This situation turned teachers and lecturers to be more creative in designing innovative material. Thus, teachers need to integrate not only such important points as good English material but also knowledge of gender into students’ materials. Therefore, learners and the society get and apply the knowledge and start appreciating each other, both men and women.

This effort was not only adding and applying universal values and cultural identities, which match with students’ needs, but also managing, and running good strategies in teaching learning process.  Why multicultural? Indonesia consists of 17.506 islands, 746 languages, and 1.128 tribes. Abstract

Incorporating augmented reality (AR) into education is increasingly vital for fostering engagement and interactivity, particularly in language learning, where narrative text plays a central role. The objectives of this study were to (1) ascertain the participants' target demands, (2) analyze their English-language learning needs, and (3) create an augmented reality novel game as a teaching tool for narrative text. This research and development project (RD) was conducted. Junior high schoolers were the subjects; they were 15 males and 17 females. This study was done using a 4-D model. Participants were given questionnaires to complete, and an English teacher was interviewed as part of the need analysis. The instruments used to collect the data were the needs analysis questionnaire, interview guidelines, expert judgment rating scale, and student review questionnaire. The result of this study is an augmented reality novel game as English learning media, which was created after taking into account the findings of the needs analysis, professional opinion, and student evaluation. It consists of narrative texts in general and augmented reality books that serve as instances of narrative texts. The developed media's overall average score was 3.65. The created interactive learning multimedia was therefore categorized as suitable. According to the students' review findings, most augmented reality novel games are excellent and appropriate.

Abstract

(Title: The Use of Video Broadcast in Teaching Listening-Speaking). The latest technology, which comes like storm, gives us extra help in revealing the unseen that is beyond our reach and touch the untouchable in our hands. The technology gives us potential to do things we haven't been able to do before. One of the greatest challenges to the classrooms of today is mobile technology. As teachers, it's our job to make sure that students who are considered as digital natives learn through the omnipresence of the mainstream media. The world around us is changing in terms of communication and interaction that affect the way people see, think and learn the present environment, and connect with others. In education, we have three options when dealing with these changes: avoid it, struggle with it, or embrace it. It is our duty to prepare and adjust the classroom of today ready for tomorrow. Thus, this writing attempts to review the new trend in technology, the use of video broadcasting in teaching listening-speaking.Keywords: listening-speaking, video broadcasting, media

Abstract

This study investigates the traditional concepts and mathematical practices of the Javanese people as found in Serat Centhini Kamajaya volumes IX–XII, focusing on how they performed measurements. The research employs a qualitative ethnomathematical approach using a framework based on four key questions: where to look, how to look, what it is, and what it means. Data were drawn from the transliteration of Serat Centhini volumes IX–XII and analyzed using content analysis, triangulation, and pattern identification across six basic mathematical activities. The study identifies sixteen traditional Javanese measurement terms in Serat Centhini IX–XII, including sacengkang, lengen, sapungge, ula sawa, kilan, pêcak, sagêgêm, glintir, sairis, jodho, sakêpêl, saklêmuk, saontong, poros, pulukan, and tangkeb. These terms illustrate the close relationship between culture and mathematical reasoning. The findings highlight the embeddedness of mathematical concepts in Javanese cultural expressions and support the integration of ethnomathematics into culturally responsive education.

Abstract

The lack of student motivation in understanding English reading texts at vocational schools remains a major challenge for effective learning. This issue is exacerbated by traditional teaching methods that provide limited active student participation. This study aims to analyze the effect of using Quizizz on students’ reading comprehension motivation among eleventh graders at SMKN 2 Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Employing a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design, the research involved 71 students who had used Quizizz in English reading activities. Data were collected through validated and reliable questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests (normality and linearity), simple regression, and a one-sample t-test. Results revealed an average score of 4.03 for Quizizz use and 3.99 for reading motivation. Normality (p = 0.200) and linearity tests (p = 0.000; p = 0.602) confirmed the data suitability. Regression analysis indicated that Quizizz significantly influenced student motivation (p < 0.000, R² = 0.53). One-sample t-tests further showed both variables scored higher than the moderate value (t = 16.571; t = 14.012; p < 0.000). These findings highlight that Quizizz effectively enhances motivation, fosters engagement, and creates an interactive and enjoyable learning experience, thereby supporting technology-based learning.

Abstract

In second language research, listening opportunities are often characterized as the linguistics environment – the stage for SLA. This environment, that is, the speakers of the target language and their speech to the L2 learners, provide linguistics input in the form of listening and interaction opportunities embedded in social and pedagogic situations. It has been noted that for a person to learn second language three major conditions are required: (1) a learner who realizes the need to learn the second language and is motivated to do so, (2) Speaker of the target language who know it well enough to provide leaner with access to the spoken language and that support (such as simplification, repletion, and feedback) they need for learning it; and (3) a social setting which bring the leaner in frequent enough and sustain enough contact with target language speakers to make language learning possible. Listening is required in two of these conditions, and is therefore an essential means of language development, a point that is often overlooked in language pedagogy and research. The learner, in order to acquire the language, must come to understand the input and pay attention to the forms in the input. The more students get input from listening, the richer the knowledge they acquire then the more fluent they become. It is educator who need to design and place listening in the right position so that it can bring the leaner in frequent enough and sustains enough contact with target language speakers to make language learning possible. Keywords: Listening, L2 curriculum

Abstract

One of the most widely discussed concepts in education and educational reform these days is critical thinking. This thing we call critical thinking or analysis has strong cultural components. An area of cultural difference that may influence critical thinking is the use of language to effect thinking and learning. It is more than just a set of writing and thinking techniques- it is a voice, a stance, a relationship with texts and family members, friends, teachers, the media, even the history of one's country (Fox, 1994, p.125). Critical thinking begins when people make the connections between their individual lives and social conditions. In classrooms that feature critical thinking, students are encouraged to participate actively, raising issues of concern in their daily lives, such as work, school, and housing as topics for class discussion. As teachers and scholars grow to understand the unique characteristics of the culture, it is important to see, observe, analyze and response appropriately through language in the class and social life so that young generation can learn how to appreciate members of another culture and go hand in hand with them. It may become an effort to shape the civil society. This condition does not stop at that step. It leads them to act and response critically in daily life. Then, this beneficial actions form good characters
