Abstract

Lawang Agung Village is situated in Air Periukan District, Seluma Regency, directly adjacent to plantation land owned by PT. Agri Andalas. Waste empty palm fruit bunches (TKKS) or 'jangkos' are an organic compost that can support plant growth. This community service aims to provide training and practical experience in seeding and breeding UNIB hybrid chilies using jangkos compost as an organic medium. In its implementation, activities begin with training, preparing seeds, tools, and materials. They then continue with seeding and nursery practices involving 20 PKK cadres. The hybrid chilies sown include the UNIB Pi, P3, P5, and P7 hybrid chilies. On November 28, the seedlings, which were 34 days old, were transplanted into polybags measuring 40 x 40 cm in the village nursery. Based on the activity evaluation, the partners demonstrated an understanding of the process of seeding and breeding UNIB hybrid chilies and successfully used jangkos as a planting medium.

Abstract

Abstract

Most of the residents in Central Bengkulu Regency work as farmers, in addition to raising livestock and as fish cultivators. This condition needs serious attention from the local government and related stakeholders. The issue of feed has a large proportion of the sustainability of livestock businesses. On the other hand, palm fronds as post-harvest agricultural waste and bran as post-processing waste have not been utilized optimally. Even though the nutritional content contained in it is quite high. Agricultural and plantation waste by-products have good potential for use as animal feed. In order to guarantee safety and suitability, further processing and analysis is needed. Processing of raw materials is carried out in a combination (physical, chemical and biological). Preparation of feed formulations using Pearson's Quadrilateral Method. Testing is carried out in laboratories that consistently apply ISO/IEC 17025: 2017 from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN), namely the Animal Husbandry Service Service of East Java Province. The test result standard refers to SNI 01-4087-2006 concerning Artificial Feed for Catfish (Enlargement). Fish feed (pellets) that meet SNI 01-4087-2006 contain 3 types of content including ash content, crude fat, and aflatoxin. Types of content that do not meet SNI are crude protein, crude fiber, phosphorus, buoyancy and pellet diameter. The estimated cost of making fish food (pellets) costs around IDR. 6,100,- per kilogram. Cost analysis is relevant to feed quality and daily requirements without reducing nutritional value. Further research is needed to ensure that artificial feed is more cost efficient than conventional feed.

Abstract

Community Service Program (KKN) is a form of community service that aims to provide solutions to social problems in the surrounding environment. One of the problems identified is the lack of public awareness about the impact of non-biodegradable waste on the ecosystem, through a visual and interactive approach. The implementation method includes collecting scientific data on the decomposition time of waste such as plastic (hundreds to thousands of years), paper (2-6 months), and organic materials (several weeks), followed by the design of informative and engaging educational boards. The boards are designed for use in schools, communities, and public spaces, with graphic elements, facts, and waste reduction tips. The program results show an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of recycling and waste management, as well as the potential for reducing waste production by up to 20% in the implementation area. In conclusion, this program not only educates but also encourages concrete actions for environmental sustainability, with recommendations for expansion to the national level

Abstract

Waste management, particularly non-biodegradable waste, remains a major environmental problem in densely populated residential areas, including Pematang Gubernur Subdistrict, Bengkulu City. Low public awareness of proper waste disposal and management has led to environmental pollution, clogged drainage systems, and decreased environmental quality and public health. This community service activity aimed to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding types of waste and the time required for waste decomposition through the use of educational signboards as visual information media. The methods applied in this program included field observation, design and production of educational signboards, and installation of the signboards at strategic locations prone to illegal waste disposal. The educational signboards were designed with simple and clear visual content to ensure that the information could be easily understood by all community members. The results of the activity indicated a positive response from the community, as residents showed increased attention to the information displayed on the signboards and a better understanding of the long-term environmental impacts of waste. The presence of educational signboards proved to be an effective and sustainable educational medium that contributed to encouraging positive behavioral changes toward better and more sustainable waste management practices.

Abstract

Research purposes This study aims to analyze the contribution of the agricultural sector to regional development in Bengkulu Province using the Location Quotient (LQ) and Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) methods. LQ is used to identify agricultural subsectors that serve as basic (leading) sectors, while DLQ examines the growth direction of these subsectors over time. The study uses secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for the period 2020–2024, covering the food crop, horticulture, plantation, and agricultural services subsectors. The findings indicate that most agricultural subsectors in Bengkulu Province—such as food crops, horticulture, and agricultural services—are classified as basic sectors (LQ > 1). However, their growth is not considered prospective because their DLQ values are below 1. This means that although these subsectors contribute significantly at the local level, their growth is slower compared to the national level. Meanwhile, the plantation subsector is categorized as non-basic and non-prospective, as it makes a small contribution and also shows slow growth. The researchers recommend strengthening the agricultural sector through subsector-specific approaches. For basic subsectors, interventions such as equipment modernization, technology adoption, farmer institutional strengthening, and market digitalization are needed. For non-basic subsectors such as plantations, revitalization efforts, partnerships with processing industries, and product diversification are recommended. The study emphasizes the importance of transforming the agricultural sector from relying on comparative advantages to developing competitive advantages in order to promote inclusive and sustainable regional development.
