Abstract

This study compared the effects of game-based learning and textbook on students achievement. A problem solving method was employed in learning processes in the classroom. One hundred and thirteen students of grade eight from three junior high schools in the Province of Yogyakarta, who were selected using convenience sampling, participated in this study. The study employed a quasi experiment with a pretest-posttest control-group design. The data were collected through a pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The data were analysed using ANOVA, indicating that the students who were exposed to the game-based learning within problem solving approach significantly outperformed their counterparts who were exposed on the basis of textbook within problem solving. The data from questionnaire revealed that the students preferred game-based learning because they could understand the materials with enjoyable and easily.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The ability to think mathematically is an important aspect in learning mathematics, but many students still experience problems in understanding abstract concepts such as sets and show a lack of empathy in group work, as found. This research aims to improve students' mathematical thinking skills and empathy through the Realistic Mathematics Education approach combined with the Project-Based Learning model. The method used was classroom action research carried out in two cycles in class VIII with 15 students as research subjects. The research procedure refers to Kemmis and McTaggart's spiral model, which consists of planning, implementation, observation and reflection phases. Data collection was carried out through mathematical thinking ability tests, observation of student activities, and empathy questionnaires. The results show that at the initial stage, there were no students who met the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM), and the level of empathy was relatively low. After implementing the learning strategy, there was a significant improvement in both aspects, especially in the second cycle. These findings indicate that the integration of the RME approach and the PjBL model is effective in developing mathematical thinking skills and increasing student empathy in learning mathematics

Abstract

Mathematics is often perceived by students as a difficult and uninteresting subject, highlighting the need for a learning model that not only fosters interest but also strengthens conceptual understanding. Previous studies have shown a gap in the optimal integration of the cooperative Numbered Heads Together (NHT) model with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) approach, even though both have the potential to promote active engagement and stimulate critical thinking. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing the PBL-based NHT model in improving students’ interest and conceptual understanding of mathematics among tenth-grade students at MA Zainul Hasan Genggong. The research was conducted through Classroom Action Research, combining quantitative data (tests and questionnaires) and qualitative data (observations and interviews). The participants consisted of 21 students. The instruments included a learning interest questionnaire, multiple-choice tests to assess conceptual understanding, observation sheets, and interview guidelines. The results indicate an increase in the average learning interest score from 61% (moderate category) to 73% (high category), and an improvement in conceptual understanding from an average of 42.86% in Cycle I to 82.61% in Cycle II. The qualitative data supported these findings, showing students’ more active involvement in discussions and problem-solving activities. Therefore, the integration of the NHT–PBL model proved effective in enhancing students’ interest and conceptual understanding. These findings recommend strengthening problem-based cooperative learning designs by considering aspects such as time allocation, topic selection, and students’ ability heterogeneity.

Abstract

The majority of the Sentulan Village community, Probolinggo Regency, have children at the MI level. As a result of the Covid 19 pandemic, these children almost every day have to operate smartphones and the internet as communication tools as their media in online learning (via online). The community also realizes that their children will be at risk of being exposed to various adult content. So it is considered important to equip children with the right information about gender and sexuality based on their age and stage of development to answer the challenges of the rapid growth of the digital era. Through community service, this is carried out with students of the Islamic University Zainul Hasan Genggong through the Real Work Lecture Program (KKN) and using the ABCD (Asset-Based Community-driven Development) method. The results can be concluded that sex education is very important to be given since children are at an early age. In addition, after the program was completed, there was a positive change in the behavior of the children of Sentulan Village, Probolinggo Regency.
