Abstract

The city of Banjarmasin is one of the riverbank areas, which every year accepts new college students from various regions every day. Adjustment to the new learning environment and system creates problems for new college students. This study describes the problems new college students face from the class of 2021 at Lambung Mangkurat University. This research was conducted using mixed methods with an explanatory sequential design. The research sample was selected by purposive sampling technique. Quantitative data was collected using a problem checklist, and qualitative data were obtained using counseling interviews. Quantitative data shows that in group analysis, new college students face problems in personal 44.9%, social 59.5%, career 59.5%, and academic 60.3%. Qualitative data collected using counseling showed that these students experienced personal and social problems. The social issues are 1) difficulty managing time; (2) lack of confidence; (3) harboring issues on their own, so they get stressed quickly, (4) overthinking, (5) relationships with parents that are not good; (6) unhealthy friendships or toxic relationship; (7) there is a misunderstanding with peers; and (8) difficulty adapting to the class schedule and new environment. Problems in these two fields have an impact on the academic field, making students less motivated to learn because of the mismatch between the desires and the majors studied, difficulty dividing time, and difficulty adapting to a new environment, coupled with problems that make new students feel stressed and depressed with their study activities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the eco-literacy profile formulated by the Centre of Eco-literacy. The research design used in this article is qualitative with a case study approach. The research subjects consist of 5 students, two teachers, and the principal. The data collection techniques in this study used three techniques: observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique examines the data obtained from the beginning of data collection to conclude. The research result shows that: (1) in the cognitive aspect, students understand environmental issues and can connect this knowledge with concrete actions in their daily lives; (2) the emotional aspect shows that students are deeply aware of the interdependence between living beings and the environment, accompanied by empathy and care for nature; (3) the activity aspect is evident from students' involvement in using tools and resources wisely and integrating eco-literacy principles into various practical activities; and (4) the spirit aspect is reflected in the increased awareness of students regarding the relationship between humans and nature, manifested through actual actions born from their knowledge and care. This study concludes that students' eco-literacy profile is good, with skills encompassing cognitive, emotional, activity, and spirit aspects that mutually support understanding and responding to environmental issues effectively. This research is expected to serve as a reference for policymakers and schools in implementing eco-literacy in elementary schools.

Abstract

The low level of decision-making skills among students poses a significant challenge in elementary teacher education programs. This study aims to evaluate decision-making skills using the DECIDE model among elementary teacher education students in Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative method with a case study design. The participants consisted of 70 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using open-ended essay tests and non-test techniques, including participant observation and in-depth interviews. The results indicated that students' decision-making skills could be evaluated through the six stages of the DECIDE model: Define the Problem, demonstrated by the ability to define the problem and identify the main aspects requiring resolution; Establish the Criteria, reflected in the ability to establish relevant and objective criteria for evaluating potential solutions; Consider all the Alternatives, shown by the ability to assess all alternatives along with their advantages and disadvantages; Identify the Best Alternative, characterized by the ability to identify the best alternative based on the established criteria; Develop and Implement a Plan of Action, shown through the development of a structured action plan; and Evaluate and Monitor the Solution, demonstrated by continuous evaluation of the implemented solution. This study concluded that elementary teacher education students in Indonesia exhibit good decision-making skills based on the DECIDE model.

Abstract

Decision-making skills are an essential competency in education but remain challenging to develop effectively through problem-based learning models in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the significant influence of problem-based learning models on decision-making skills in Indonesia using a meta-analytic approach. The research method employed is quantitative meta-analysis. The eligibility criteria include: (1) relevant topics; (2) empirical research results; (3) availability of (r), (t), or (F) values; (4) sample size N ≥ 20; (5) use of internationally recognized language; (6) indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, or SINTA; and (7) accessible through national and international journal databases. Data analysis techniques involved statistical methods to test heterogeneity, calculate effect size, and assess publication bias using JASP software version 18.3.0. The results showed: (1) significant heterogeneity in the heterogeneity test; (2) the summary effect size test revealed an intercept value of 0.814, categorized as a very strong effect; (3) no potential publication bias was detected. This study concludes that problem-based learning family models have a strong influence on decision-making skills in Indonesia. The findings of this study imply the importance of integrating problem-based learning models into the national curriculum and strengthening teacher training to effectively enhance students’ decision-making skills in Indonesia.
