Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding (ASI-E) is a very important practice for the optimal health and development of the baby. However, the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women towards breast milk often require improvement. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of education programs for pregnant women in increasing their knowledge and attitudes regarding breastfeeding. There was a significant improvement in the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women who participated in the education program compared to the control group. Post-intervention, pregnant women in the intervention group had a better understanding of the benefits of breast milk-E, correct breastfeeding techniques, and resolution of problems that may arise during the breastfeeding period. Positive attitudes toward ASI-E were also more dominant among the intervention group. This educational program provides strong evidence that increasing the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women through educational interventions can be an effective strategy to improve breastfeeding practices. Future recommendations include long-term research to evaluate the long-term impact of these education programs on breastfeeding practices as well as the inclusion of fathers in education efforts.

Abstract

The elderly are one of the population groups that are vulnerable to various health problems. Proper education and health screenings can improve quality of life and prevent diseases that often occur in old age. This service activity aims to identify effective educational approaches and types of health checks that are important for the elderly. Service activities are carried out in the form of free examinations and health counseling to provide information and education about health for the elderly. For counseling activities using the lecture method and focus group discussion. Results show that an integrated educational approach, including information on healthy lifestyles, chronic disease management, and the importance of active socialisation, has a positive impact on elderly health knowledge and behaviours. risk of complications. It can be concluded that education and medical examination are two important aspects of caring for the elderly. An integrated, holistic educational approach can improve the elderly's health knowledge and behaviours, while regular health checkups can help detect health problems early and reduce the risk of complications.

Abstract

Community empowerment is one of the effective strategies to improve patient's quality of life by increasing the capacity of families and communities to provide home care. This service aims to evaluate the impact of home care training on the quality of life of patients with chronic health conditions treated at home. The methods used in the training include theory, practical simulations, and group discussions. The evaluation results showed that the trainees experienced an increase in knowledge and skills in providing home care, which positively impacted patients' quality of life. The program empowers families to treat patients more effectively and reduces the burden on the formal health system by optimizing care at home. This activity concludes that home care training is an effective strategy for community empowerment to improve patients' quality of life and support the sustainability of health care in the community

Abstract

Academic writing is a fundamental skill that nursing students must develop to contribute effectively to the advancement of knowledge and evidence-based practice in healthcare. However, many students face challenges in organizing ideas, using appropriate scientific language, and understanding the structure of scholarly articles. This community service program aims to enhance nursing students' academic writing capacity through interactive workshops, hands-on mentoring sessions, and peer review activities. The program focuses on improving students’ ability to select relevant topics, conduct literature reviews, formulate research questions, and adhere to scientific writing conventions. The program's outcomes include increased student confidence in writing, improved quality of academic manuscripts, and a greater interest in publication and academic discourse. This initiative is expected to foster a culture of research and scholarly communication among nursing students, ultimately contributing to their educational and professional development

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue that threatens the quality of human resources, particularly in developing countries. One of the critical periods to prevent stunting is the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK), starting from conception until a child reaches two years old. This community service program aimed to optimize the role of community midwives in providing maternal nutrition education for pregnant women as an effort to reduce stunting prevalence. The method employed was participatory action through training, counseling sessions, and the development of educational media tailored to local cultural contexts. Community midwives were equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills regarding balanced nutrition, micronutrient supplementation, and strategies to increase family awareness about food diversity. Counseling activities were carried out in small groups with interactive discussions, supported by leaflets and visual aids to facilitate better understanding. The results indicated an improvement in the knowledge and attitudes of both midwives and pregnant women. Midwives demonstrated greater confidence in delivering nutritional education, while pregnant women showed increased awareness of the importance of protein, iron, folic acid, and other essential nutrients for fetal growth. Furthermore, family involvement in supporting pregnant women’s dietary practices became more evident. This program highlights that empowering community midwives as local health educators can be a strategic approach to break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. Strengthening collaboration among health workers, local governments, and community leaders is essential to sustain the impact and ensure long-term stunting prevention efforts

Abstract

Introduction: Acute Respiratory Tract Infections (ARTIs) remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among children, particularly in developing countries. Elevated respiratory rate is a common clinical manifestation in pediatric ARTI cases, often resulting from airway obstruction due to mucus accumulation. Chest physiotherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention aimed at mobilizing secretions, improving ventilation, and reducing respiratory effort. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of chest physiotherapy in stabilizing the respiratory rate in preschool children diagnosed with ARTI. Methods: This case study involved two pediatric inpatients aged 1 and 3 years with a confirmed diagnosis of ARTI at Sandi Karsa Hospital, Makassar. Each patient received daily chest physiotherapy including percussion, vibration, and postural drainage for three consecutive days. Respiratory rate was measured before and after each session using direct observation and timing methods.. Results: A consistent reduction in respiratory rate was observed in both patients following each chest physiotherapy session. The average decrease ranged from 8 to 9 breaths per minute, indicating a significant clinical improvement. No adverse effects were reported during or after the intervention. Conclusion: Chest physiotherapy is an effective and safe non-pharmacological intervention for stabilizing the respiratory rate in children with ARTI. It facilitates mucus clearance, improves pulmonary ventilation, and alleviates respiratory effort. This intervention is recommended for integration into pediatric respiratory care protocols in hospital settings

Abstract

Introduction: Community health workers (CHWs) are critical in expanding access to primary healthcare, particularly in underserved areas. Despite their essential role, CHWs often face challenges such as inadequate supervision, limited feedback, and lack of professional development. Supportive supervision, which emphasizes mentorship, joint problem-solving, and performance improvement, has emerged as a key strategy to strengthen CHW effectiveness and retention. Methods: This scoping review followed Arksey and O’Malley’s framework and the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Relevant literature published between 2010 and 2025 was systematically searched in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Studies focusing on supportive supervision models, strategies, or outcomes for CHWs were included. Data were extracted and synthesized thematically to identify supervision approaches, implementation factors, and impacts on CHW performance. Results: Thirty-seven studies met the inclusion criteria. The findings revealed that supportive supervision enhances CHW motivation, service quality, and community trust. Effective supervision models were characterized by regular feedback, participatory monitoring, and peer learning. Barriers included insufficient resources, supervisor workload, and weak institutional support. Digital tools and community-based supervision showed promise in improving supervision frequency and data-driven decision-making. Conclusion: Supportive supervision plays a pivotal role in strengthening the performance and sustainability of CHW programs. Integrating structured, participatory, and technology-assisted supervision mechanisms into health systems can foster CHW empowerment, accountability, and long-term impact.
