Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that significantly impacts children's physical and cognitive development, as well as a long-term effect on the quality of the next generation. This community service aims to empower the community in efforts to prevent and overcome stunting to build a healthy and productive generation. This program is carried out through balanced nutrition education, promotion of exclusive breastfeeding, increased access to good sanitation, and monitoring children's growth and development. The methods used include training Posyandu cadres, counselling pregnant and lactating women, and collaborating with local governments to strengthen health facilities at the village level. The service results showed increased community knowledge and skills in identifying and preventing stunting risk factors. In addition, this program also encourages active community participation in maintaining children's health and the environment. With sustainable empowerment, it is hoped that the stunting rate can be suppressed to create a healthy and productive generation

Abstract

Stunting is a serious public health problem, especially in children under five. The causes of stunting are complex and involve a variety of factors, but health education, feeding practices, attention, stimulation, and access to health services have been identified as major contributors. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The research design is observational analytics using a case-control research design. The results show a statistical test result value of p-value of 0.016; employment of 0.013; family income of 0.002. It can be concluded that parenting affects the incidence of stunting in toddlers. Stunting is the result of a combination of complex factors and interactions between social, economic, health, and environmental aspects. Therefore, stunting handling must also be holistic and involve various sectors to achieve optimal results. It is important for parents to provide proper attention and support in terms of nutrition, health, and stimulation of children to support optimal growth and development.

Abstract

Introduction: Providing appropriate nutrition information is important to increase public knowledge about balanced nutrition. One proven effective method is using video media as a means of education. Objective: Analyze the effectiveness of video media in increasing knowledge about balanced nutrition. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental study design without group controls. The population of this study is all students, with a sample of 52 people who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling technique used stratified random sampling. Result: The study showed that the use of video increased the average knowledge score (mean) by 85.96 video (p=0.003). This study shows that providing nutrition education with video media is more effective in increasing balanced nutrition knowledge. Conclusion: Video media has been proven more effective in increasing knowledge about balanced nutrition. Video media can present information more interesting, interactive, and visually, making it easier for the audience to understand and remember the material conveyed. A significant increase in knowledge in the group receiving the video media intervention showed that this method is an effective educational tool in balanced nutrition campaigns. Therefore, video media is recommended as a nutrition counseling strategy to expand the reach and impact of health education in the community.

Abstract

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) during the first six months of life plays a crucial role in infant survival, growth, and development. However, the global rates of EBF remain below the recommended targets. Pregnant women's classes are designed to provide education, support, and skills necessary for successful breastfeeding practices. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of pregnant women's classes on the success rate of exclusive breastfeeding. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a posttest-only control group was employed. The study involved 120 pregnant women in their third trimester, selected through purposive sampling from two community health centers. The intervention group (n=60) participated in a structured pregnant women's class, while the control group (n=60) received standard antenatal care without additional courses. Data on breastfeeding practices were collected three months postpartum using structured interviews and analyzed using the Chi-square test and logistic regression. Results: The study found a significantly higher rate of exclusive breastfeeding in the intervention group (78.3%) compared to the control group (53.3%) (p<0.01). Attendance in the pregnant women's class was associated with a 2.9 times higher likelihood of practicing exclusive breastfeeding (OR=2.9; 95% CI: 1.5–5.6). Key factors contributing to success included increased maternal knowledge, self-efficacy, and support from health educators during antenatal. Conclusions: Participation in pregnant women's classes effectively increases the success rate of exclusive breastfeeding. Integrating structured breastfeeding education into routine antenatal care is recommended to improve maternal practices and promote better infant health outcomes.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue that threatens the quality of human resources, particularly in developing countries. One of the critical periods to prevent stunting is the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK), starting from conception until a child reaches two years old. This community service program aimed to optimize the role of community midwives in providing maternal nutrition education for pregnant women as an effort to reduce stunting prevalence. The method employed was participatory action through training, counseling sessions, and the development of educational media tailored to local cultural contexts. Community midwives were equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills regarding balanced nutrition, micronutrient supplementation, and strategies to increase family awareness about food diversity. Counseling activities were carried out in small groups with interactive discussions, supported by leaflets and visual aids to facilitate better understanding. The results indicated an improvement in the knowledge and attitudes of both midwives and pregnant women. Midwives demonstrated greater confidence in delivering nutritional education, while pregnant women showed increased awareness of the importance of protein, iron, folic acid, and other essential nutrients for fetal growth. Furthermore, family involvement in supporting pregnant women’s dietary practices became more evident. This program highlights that empowering community midwives as local health educators can be a strategic approach to break the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. Strengthening collaboration among health workers, local governments, and community leaders is essential to sustain the impact and ensure long-term stunting prevention efforts
