Abstract

Dietary plants are believed to contain antioxidants that have positive effects on human health. Free radicals, other reactive oxygen and nitrogen spesies can be eliminated by antioxidants. The presence of flavonoids and phenol in paprika (Capsicum annuum var. grossum) fruit contributes to its antioxidant properties. The phytochemistry and antioxidant activity of paprika leaves—especially those cultivated in Indonesia—have not been extensively studied. The aim of this study to investigate psychochemical parameters, phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity of paprika leaves from Indonesia. Several physicochemical parameters and phytochemical screening test were done base on Indonesian Herbs Pharmacopoeia. Antioxidant activity test using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method. Dry powder of paprika leaves have some physicochemical parameters which part of its characteristic. Dry powder and extract of paprika leaves contains flavonoid, saponin, phenol and steroid/triterpenoid. The findings of the antioxidant test indicated that the standard vitamin C exhibited an IC50 value of 6.22 µg/ml. In contrast, the extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and water fraction demonstrated IC50 values of 6.41, 9.12, 8.96, and 10.58 µg/ml, respectively. There was potential for paprika leaves to be developed as a natural source of antioxidants.

Abstract

The Rutaceae family is a family known to have antioxidant activity, one of the species included in the Rutaceae family is Acronychia pedunculata (L.) Miq commonly known as smidra. Plant parts of Acronychia pedunculata (L.) Miq such as roots, stems, leaves and fruit are used for traditional medicine for diarrhea, cough, asthma, wounds, boils, itchy skin, scales, pain and rheumatism and can be used as a fever reducer and can be used for the treatment of digestive tract disorders such as ulcers and intestinal infections. This study aims to determine the phytochemical profile and antioxidant activity of Acronychia pedunculata (L.) Miq smidra wood. In this study, the phytochemical profile analysis test was carried out, including the test of simplisia characteristics, monitoring the spectrum pattern using FTIR and chromatogram pattern using KLT and antioxidant activity test using DPPH method. The results showed that Acronychia pedunculata (L.) Miq smidra wood contains acetophenone derivative compounds with at least 5 compound components. Antioxidant activity test with DPPH method produces IC50 of 9.68 ppm which is included in the category of very strong antioxidants.

Abstract

AbstrakTumbuhan kemuning (Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack) merupakan salah satu spesies dari genus Murraya yang termasuk ke dalam keluarga Rustaceae. Tanaman ini dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat luas sebagai tanaman obat.  Tanaman ini memiliki beberapa kelompok senyawa yang terkandung dalam spesies Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack yaitu alkaloid, fenol dan Beta-caryophyllene. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu menentukan kadar total fenol dan flavonoid serta karakteristik untuk standarisasi. Dari hasil penelitian fenol total tanaman kemuning yaitu sebesar 38,3219 mg GAE/g sampel dan flavonoid total yaitu sebesar 22,0526 mg QE/g sampel. Hasil pemeriksaan karakteristik simplisia batang kemuning telah sesuai dengan persyaratan yang telah ditetapkan oleh MMI. Hasil penafisan fitokimia simplisia dan ekstrak yaitu mengandung senyawa alkaloid, flavonoid dan saponin.Kata kunci: Kemuning; Mikroskopik; Asam Galat; Kadar Air Abstract The Kemuning plant (Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack) belongs to the Murraya genus within the Rustaceae family. It serves as a medicinal plant widely used by the community. Within the species Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack, this plant contains various groups of compounds, including alkaloids, phenols, and Beta-caryophyllene. The objective of this study is to determine the total levels of phenols and flavonoids, as well as to characterize them for standardization. The study yielded results indicating that the entire phenol content in the kemuning plant was 38.3219 mg GAE/g of samples, while the total flavonoid content was 22.0526 mg QE/g. The examination of the characteristics of the kemuning stem simplisia aligns with the standards established by MMI. Furthermore, the phytochemical screening results revealed the presence of alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, and saponins in both the simplisia and the extract.Keywords: Kemuning: Microscopic; Galat Acid; Water Content

Abstract

Introduction: Jamblang is a plant from the Myrtaceae family. It can be used as a traditional medicine, one of which can treat diabetes. The purpose of this review is to determine the phytochemical compounds of Syzygium cumini that have antidiabetic activity. Methods: The methods used in the preparation of this review article are to search for various sources that discuss antidiabetic activity and phytochemical studies of Syzygium cumini. Results: The results of the review that have been carried out explain the in vitro and in vivo testing of antidiabetic activity on the inhibition method and the induction method, resulting in jamblang potentially as an antidiabetic. Conclusion:The results of the review that have been carried out explain the phytochemical study using HPLC method there are groups of flavonoid, phenolic, and phenylpropanoid compounds, and on the TLC method there are groups of terpenoids. Oleic acid and ursolic acid compounds have antidiabetic activity.

Abstract

This outreach activity for students was held by SMP Plus Sukaraja Garut, and aimed at increasing students' awareness about the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS), especially regarding adequate water intake and regular exercise. The method used in this outreach is through the distribution of brochures and direct presentations at one of the schools in the Garut Regency. Counseling is carried out by providing a pretest and posttest to measure students' level of understanding. The results of this activity show that using brochures as an information medium is quite effective because they can be read repeatedly and the direct presentation here allows for two-way interaction to clarify understanding. This counseling succeeded in increasing students' knowledge and awareness about the importance of PHBS, water intake, and exercise by 78.85%. It is hoped that this PKM activity can encourage students to implement healthy living habits sustainably.

Abstract

Abstract: Forest Betel (Piper aduncum L.) belongs to the genus Piper. Many researches on antioxidants of various genera of Piper have been carried out such as Piper crocatum and Piper betle, but research on antioxidants in forest betel is still very limited. Natural antioxidants can be used to reduce free radicals in an effort to prevent degenerative diseases. This study aims to determine the antioxidant activity of flowers, leaves and stalks of forest betel and the group of compounds responsible for the antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity was tested using the DPPH method (2,2 diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) with UV-Vis spectrophotometry and thin layer chromatography (TLC). The antioxidant activity test results using UV-Vis spectrophotometry showed that forest betel leaf extract had 47.252 µg/ml as an IC50 value, forest betel flower extract had 49,756 µg /ml as an IC50 value and forest betel stalk extract had 48.674 µg/ml as an IC50 value.. While vitamin C as a comparison has 5.223 µg/ml as an IC50 value. From the TLC results showed that the compounds suspected of providing antioxidant activity in the flower and stalk extracts were flavonoid compounds because they had the same Rf values, which 0.35; 0.53; 0.66 on the plates that had been sprayed with DPPH and sitroborate. Extracts of leaves, flowers and stalks of forest betel have antioxidant activity with IC50 of 47.252; 49.756 and 48.674 µg/ml respectively and suspected the presence of flavonoid compounds that are responsible for the antioxidant activities of flower and stalk extract.

Abstract

Penyebaran rumput laut di Indonesia berada hampir diseluruh penjuru tanah air, namun produksi dan perdagangan rumput laut Indonesia sampai saat ini didominasi oleh genus Gracilaria dari kelas Rhodopyceae sebagai penghasil agar. Beberapa penelitian telah dilakukan dan menunjukan aktivitas dari Gracilaria. Tujuan review artikel ini adalah memberikan informasi tentang aktivitas farmakologi genus Gracilaria, dengan menggunakan metode studi literatur dari beberapa penelitian mengenai aktivitas dari Gracilaria. Beberapa spesies dari genus ini, berpotensi untuk aktivitas antioksidan, antibakteri, terapi adjuvans pada penyakit peridontal, antidiabetes, antiobesitas, antikolesterol, antiosteoklas, hepatoprotektor, antikanker, homeostatis, antikoagulan, antiulcer, dan imunostimulan.
