Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia in teenagers is 32%, meaning that 3-4 out of 10 teenagers suffer from anemia. This is influenced by suboptimal nutritional intake habits, inappropriate food choices and lack of physical activity.. Objective: This research is to identify LILA, HB Levels and Nutritional Status of Level 1 Students of the D3 Midwifery Study Program, Manado Health Polytechnic. Method: This research is quantitative research using a cross sectional design. The research population was Diploma III Midwifery Study Program students with a total research sample of 60 people. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria, namely that young women had menstruated and were willing to become research subjects by signing informed consent. The data was analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Results: there are more respondents with Normal LILA than those with KEK, HB levels are mostly normal. And the nutritional status of students based on BMI measurements is mostly normal, but there are still students with nutritional disorders. Statistical tests show that there is a relationship between KEK and the nutritional status of young women, there is no relationship between HB levels and nutritional status in teenagers. Recommendations for young women to consume food with balanced nutrition to meet nutritional requirements so that they can avoid CED and consume blood supplement tablets to avoid anemia, according to the Government program. Young Women take 1 Fe tablet once a week for 1 year.

Abstract

Breast milk provides optimal nutrition for newborns, supporting their growth and development while meeting essential nutritional needs. Exclusive breastfeeding is crucial; however, many mothers face challenges that hinder their ability to breastfeed exclusively. Additionally, some parents believe that breast milk alone is insufficient, leading them to supplement with formula milk. Methods: This literature review analyzed studies from Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Garuda, published between 2014 and 2024 in English or Indonesian. Only full-text quantitative or qualitative studies were included, assessed using the CASP tool, and data extraction followed a structured approach. The synthesis identified six predominant factors contributing to the failure of exclusive breastfeeding and the use of formula milk, which were further analyzed for interconnections. Results: The investigation produced 20 studies that highlighted the factors influencing formula milk use and the failure of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia. Key elements identified include understanding, spousal/family support, promotion of formula milk, maternal disposition, profession, and education. These factors were found to interact and exacerbate the challenges of exclusive breastfeeding. Conclusion: The review found that inadequate breastfeeding practices in Indonesia are primarily due to factors such as lack of knowledge, insufficient family support, the aggressive promotion of formula milk, maternal attitudes, work demands, and educational background. Addressing these issues through targeted interventions can improve breastfeeding rates and reduce the reliance on formula milk.

Abstract

Iron deficiency anemia is a major health concern among adolescents, yet compliance with iron supplementation remains low. This study assessed the level of adolescent compliance in consuming iron tablets after video-based education, compared to conventional methods. A quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent control group design was conducted at SMP Negeri 13 Manado. The independent variable was video-based education, while the dependent variable was compliance with iron tablet consumption. Participants were 60 adolescent girls selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria (aged 12–15 years, diagnosed with anemia, and willing to participate). The experimental group (n=30) received weekly iron tablets and a video intervention, while the control group (n=30) received only iron tablets. Compliance was measured using self-reported questionnaires, observation checklists, and pill counts. Data were analyzed using bivariate analysis. This study found that while iron supplementation significantly improved hemoglobin levels in both the video intervention and control groups (p=0.0001), the educational video did not enhance compliance rates compared to standard care (p=0.754). The experimental group showed a mean hemoglobin increase of 1.51 g/dL versus 1.59 g/dL in controls, suggesting comparable biological efficacy regardless of educational approach. The study demonstrated that iron supplementation effectively increased hemoglobin levels in adolescents, but video-based education did not significantly improve compliance compared to standard care.

Abstract

Penilaian kualitas artikel dilakukan menggunakan instrumen SANRA (Scale for the Assessment of Narrative Review Articles).Hasil menunjukkan bahwa asam azelat, klindamisin topikal, eritromisin topikal, benzoil peroksida, dan niasinamida umumnya aman digunakan selama kehamilan.
