Abstract

Mine workers are a group that is vulnerable to various health problems, particularly lung function disorders caused by dust exposure in the work environment. Nutritional knowledge plays a significant role in maintaining lung health. This community service aims to improve nutritional knowledge related to Occupational Safety and Health (K3) to prevent lung function disorders in mine workers at PT X Coal Division. The method used was action research with a cross-sectional approach involving 28 respondents. A structured questionnaire was employed as a pre-test and post-test instrument, consisting of 10 true-false items assessing knowledge about the importance of nutrition and the application of OHS principles in the workplace. Nutrition education was delivered in the form of interactive counselling sessions. Data were analysed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to determine differences in knowledge before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant improvement in knowledge: prior to counselling, 75% of respondents had moderate knowledge, whereas after counselling, 96.4% demonstrated good knowledge. This indicates that the nutrition education program was effective in enhancing workers' understanding of nutrition and occupational health. A continuous and structured counselling program is recommended to sustain awareness and encourage preventive behaviors among mine workers.

Abstract

Background: Infertility affects approximately 10-15% of couples in Indonesia and 48.5 million couples globally. It is a growing public health concern that impacts women due to various biological, psychological, and environmental factors. The increasing rates of female infertility, influenced by unhealthy lifestyles, emphasize the critical need for effective treatments and interventions for infertility. Purpose: This study aims to determine the relationship between risk factors such as age, BMI, employment status of wife and husband, and menarche age with infertility. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Rizafa Clinic in 2023, involving a purposive sample of 150 women. Variables such as age, obesity (determined by BMI), age at menarche, and occupation were both analyzed, and a chi-square test was performed to assess the association between risk factors and infertility. Results: The study revealed that female infertility is significantly influenced by obesity (p = 0.001). However, there was no association between age (p = 0.150), women’s occupation (p = 0,310), husband's occupation (p = 0,233), and menarche age (p = 0,969) with infertility. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a correlation between obesity and the incidence of infertility. Lifestyle changes that support reproductive health in women include maintaining a healthy body weight as a foundation and limiting the intake of foods high in sugar, saturated fats, and processed ingredients, as these can negatively impact metabolism and hormone balance. Addressing these key risk factors through lifestyle adjustments is essential for improving fertility outcomes.

Abstract

This article will show how efforts to improve the professionalism of the Pati Regency KPU in organizing the 2024 Pilkada. This professionalism can be seen from the technical guidance (bimtek) for implementers and updating of voter data and monitoring activities, political education and socialization of the election to voters, provision of facilities and infrastructure, legality to candidates, and socialization of the neutrality of ASN and village heads in the 2024 Pati Regency Pilkada, as well as the integrity value of the Pati Regency KPU. We can see this from the community who dare to channel their opinions (aspirations) to government institutions (the Pati Regency KPU) which are used as a form of support or input for the future so as to produce democratic public policies (in accordance with the needs of the community). One of the objectives of this article is to see how efforts to improve the professionalism of the Pati Regency KPU in carrying out its responsibilities, especially approaching the election year, such as the quality of the services provided, whether they are effective and accurate according to the guidelines of the Central KPU. Meanwhile, this research method uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach type, interviews, and documentation at the Pati Regency KPU which is supported by online reference searches such as journals, E-books, papers, and the like. The results/findings of this research indicate that efforts to improve the professionalism of the Pati Regency KPU in organizing the 2024 Pilkada are able to provide performance wholeheartedly and accurate information that is poured out directly or indirectly so that it is hoped that public participation in the 2024 Pilkada can increase. Through this professionalism, the public is expected to give their voting rights according to applicable procedures so that it can help increase public trust in the performance of the Pati Regency KPU which will then be an improvement in the upcoming election. Therefore, the implications of this research if not carried out will have a negative impact on certain aspects, including the low level of supervision and evaluation of the performance of the Pati Regency KPU so that it will potentially lead to a decrease in the professionalism of the KPU itself which will have an impact on public trust being lost, considering that through public trust it can help to ensure justice and legitimacy in the election process. It is different if the implications of this research are carried out in order to prevent abstention behavior and public apathy and to ensure that the implementation of the regional elections runs according to applicable principles. Therefore, without this research, the risk of problems occurring in the implementation of elections will increase

Abstract

Pulmonary function impairment remains a critical occupational health issue among coal industry workers due to prolonged exposure to airborne pollutants. Despite the implementation of occupational health regulations, respiratory disorders continue to be prevalent, leading to decreased work capacity and increased health risks. Identifying key risk factors is essential to developing targeted preventive measures. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between occupational risk factors and pulmonary function impairment among workers at PT X Coal Division, East Kalimantan. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 183 coal division workers selected through cluster random sampling. Data were obtained through structured questionnaires, spirometry tests, and workplace dust level measurements. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine the most influential factors associated with pulmonary function impairment. The analysis identified significant associations between pulmonary function impairment and a history of other diseases (p = 0.001; OR = 11.709; 95% CI: 2.901–47.257), work tenure of ≥3 years (p = 0.032; OR = 3.319; 95% CI: 1.109–9.934), heavy physical workload (p = 0.036; OR = 2.807; 95% CI: 1.071–7.361), and inadequate personal protective equipment (PPE) usage (p = 0.015; OR = 2.566; 95% CI: 1.205–5.463). Other factors such as age, body mass index (BMI), work location, dust exposure, exercise habits, and smoking were not significantly associated with pulmonary function impairment. Work-related exposures and individual health conditions play a crucial role in pulmonary function impairment among coal workers. Strengthening workplace safety measures, enforcing PPE compliance, and implementing regular health screenings are necessary to mitigate respiratory risks. Ensuring a safer work environment through targeted preventive strategies is essential for protecting workers from long-term pulmonary complications while enhancing occupational health policies in the coal industry.

Abstract

Poaceae is an organism that can live and develop, generally found in tropical areas or areas with air temperature with sufficient rainfall to form grasslands. Poaceae have an important role as a barrier to erosion at the foot of the cliff. This study aims to determine the diversity of plants in the Poaceae family. The research was conducted by descriptive observation with observation techniques. The specimen collection method was roaming which was carried out in the Teletubbies Hill area, Bumiaji Village, Batu City, East Java. In collecting specimens, abiotic data were also collected as environmental parameters in the form of rainfall, number of rainy months, average daily temperature, and height above sea level to support the identification process. Based on the observation results, 6 species of the Poaceae family were found. The species found were Sporobolus indicus, Imperata cylindrical, Digitaria ciliaris, Lepetochloa, Bothriochloa ischaemum and Eragrostis unioloides.
