Abstract

One of the important things in writing is grammar. The grammatical errors in writing may or will distort and disturb the coherence of the piece of writing. A preposition is a part of grammar that important to connect one word to another. Some students ignore the preposition in the right way. So, this study is eager to analyze the errors in using preposition produced by the students' first semester of English Education Department at Unisla in academic years 2019/2020 that consist of 45 students. The study focuses on what kinds of prepositional errors that are usually produced and the types of errors in using preposition mostly produced. This study uses descriptive qualitative to describes the reasons for preposition errors occur by analyzing the students' writing. The result is the students' first semester still produces some errors in; omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The types of error that produced by the students is misformation errors with percentage 44,93%. It means the teachers have to pay more attention to teaching prepositions.

Abstract

Writing is the most difficult in English. The students have to master their vocabulary and grammar to make their writing correct. English as international languages for Indonesia students make their vocabulary is very lack, moreover in mastering their grammar. The Indonesian students have to study hard in writing English. In learning writing English, the students’ position have themselves as good writer and bad writer based on ethnicity, economic statues, gender, age, and education. So this study is present to know the students’ positional identity in English writing. The research method of study is descriptive qualitative. The data of study are students’ writing and interviews. The sample of study are students second semester of English Education Department at Lamongan Islamic University and Billfath University. It consists of 40 students both of University. Based on the study, the most of students have position their identity as good writer in writing English based on economic status and education. It means that economic status and education are the most influences in learning writing English in Indonesia. So, the English teachers have to think hard the way to improve the students’ writing in English in class.

Abstract

The study aims to find out the reading habits of EFL students to find out the writing skill of students and to find out a significant relationship between students' reading habits and the writing skill of students in the informatics engineering study program UNISLA. The method of study is quantitative with a correlation descriptive design. The data collection is documentation of students’ score in portfolio writing and the questionnaire’s score of reading habits.  The instruments of research are the report mark of students’ writing ability and the questionnaire.  The finding showed that the value of “r” is 0.41. It means that the correlation between students' reading habits and writing skill between English learners of Informatics Engineering at UNISLA in the academic year 2021/2022 were "Fairly High Correlation". A grade of r (0.41) ≥ of r-table (0.317) proves that Ha is accepted, so there is a significant relationship between students' reading habits and writing skill between Informatics Engineering study program learners at UNISLA in the academic year 2021/2022. Finally, researchers suggested to English teachers should get students interested in reading books by providing facilities and motivation to students. If the student has a high reading habit, the student will write easily in English.

Abstract

This research aims to discover the responses of student in Lamongan folklore character education values. The folklore is the title Panji Laras Liris and Mbok Rondo Barang Danureksa, which was famous as the Lamongan legendries for a banning marriages between men from Lamongan and women from Kediri and prohibition for eating catfish. Most of in several Lamongan part is belief about this folklore. This research employed descriptive qualitative research methods, using data collection technique are observed the student in reader respons after read the folklore, and choose from ten students in C class in 9th at one of the Junior High Schools in Turi. Based on the results from interviews and reader responses, several factors impact the reader's manifestation of social function after reading literary works, including the knowledge of literature, reading experience, and individual attitudes toward daily life to face the milenials era.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop learning materials for the precise understanding of Basic Grammar in English, in the form of a Pocket Book, specifically designed for eighth-grade students at MTs Bustanul Ulum, Glagah, Lamongan. The research employed a developmental research approach, consisting of ten stages: Need Survey, product design, design validation, design revision, try out 1, product revision, try out 2, product revision, and final product. The developed product underwent review by a supervisor, Media Expert, and Material Expert, and was evaluated by 15 students from MTs Bustanul Ulum. The research instruments included a questionnaire for the Validators, a questionnaire for student feedback, and an interview guide for the teacher to analyze the students' results. The students' responses were analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods, with the quantitative analysis used for calculating the results and the qualitative analysis employed for interviews, critiques, and suggestions. The findings indicated that the students required a supportive book for learning English with simple explanations and comprehensibility. The outcome of this study was the creation of a Basic English Grammar Pocket Book. The researcher suggests that this product can be utilized in the learning process for an extended period as it facilitates easy studying and allows students to carry the book everywhere they go.

Abstract

Roundtable strategy is one of the teacher’s efforts in improving the students’ writing English skill. The effectiveness of this strategy has not been proven yet, so this research done to find out the effectiveness of roundtable in learning writing English. The design of research was pre-experimental. The research was done for five meetings to the seventh grade at MTs Nurul Jadid. The data collection were calculated and analyzed by Statistical Product Service Solution (SPSS) 22. The result showed the significance value of pretest was0.074 and post-test was 0.176. The significance value was greater than 0.05, it means the data were normally distributed. The test of hypothesis used paired sample t-test. It showed the sig (2-tailed) value was 0.00. The sig (2-tailed) value was smaller than 0.05. Then Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Finally, the effectiveness of roundtable in teaching writing descriptive text showed in hypothesis testing by paired sample t-test and N-Gain score to measure it. N-Gain score was 51%. The conclusion of roundtable strategy was less effective for the seventh grade at MTs. Nurul Jadid Lamongan. The researcher may do collaboration round-table strategy with another strategy to upgrade the students’ writing ability.

Abstract

This research paper aims to investigate students' perceptions regarding the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English language learning. With the increasing prevalence of AI technology in educational settings, understanding how students perceive its role in enhancing language acquisition is of paramount importance. This study employed a qualitative approach with narrative inquiry method, to explore students' attitudes, beliefs, and experiences related to AI integration in their English learning journey. The participants of this study were 20 students from Accounting, Management and Islamic Economic from Faculty of Economic and Business Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan. The findings from this research shed light on the benefits, challenges, and potential areas of improvement in utilizing AI for English language learning. The result shows that this study reflect a generally positive attitude toward the integration of AI in English language learning. Participants recognized the potential benefits of AI, such as personalized learning pathways, instant feedback, and enhanced practice opportunities. Hence, they are knowing the errors, speeding up the process and adding the insight into thinking.

Abstract

This study aims to knowing the Effectiveness of Teamwork Tournament in teaching student’s speaking. This research used Quantitative method which is Quasi-experimental. The subject of this research was 8th grade at Mts Putra Putri Lamongan. The writer chose 8th A consisted of 17 students as the experimental class and 8th B consisted of 16 students as the control class. The data was gathered throught Pre-test and post-test. The result of this study showed from T-test the value t-table =2.039. Because t-count is greater than t-table (4.126>2.039) at significance level of 0.05. There is significant effectiveness of Teamwork Tournament learning method in teaching students’ speaking. The result of mean score for the experimental class is 84.00. and, the mean score for control class is 79.50 it was concluded that there was difference meanscore between the experimental class taught by using Teamwork Tournament and conventional class in teaching students’ speaking. So, the conclusion of this study, The Teamwork Tournament method in teaching speaking was success categories.

Abstract

This dedication aims to improve the ability of parents in storytelling techniques to their early age children, this form of dedication is an effort to introduce character education and instill moral values ​​in children through storytelling. This training activity is carried out in the form of an interactive workshop between speakers, parents, and teachers at Surya Baru Kindergarten and Melati Early Kindergarten in Plosogeneng district, Plosowahyu Village, Lamongan. The dedication was carried out on August 21, 2024. The methods implemented in this dedication are 1) conducting a survey of the dedication location, 2) analyzing problems, 3) planning a dedication concept, 4) training activities in the form of interactive workshops, 5) monitoring and evaluating dedication activities. The results obtained from this dedication are that parents can apply good storytelling techniques to their children. Thus, it is a step to instill character education in children from an early age which has a long-term impact as human beings who are virtuous. With this dedication, parents gain insight into the importance of fairy tales so that they can play a more active role in children's character education.

Abstract

This research is about the resistance of life characters from political exiles and student activists in 1998 contained in the novels Pulang and Laut Bercerita by Chudori (2012, 2017). The focus of this study is the Foucault (2012) discourse analysis which focuses on resistance characters in fighting the New Order regime. This study aims to examine the patterns of resistance through discursive formations in archeological reading. The steps of analysis are; to mark it based on existing discourse, link the lines of text with the sequence, observed the rupture, interpretation of the meaning. The results of the study show that Chudori's novels have patterns of resistance that cannot be separated from the New Order regime that once ruled Indonesia. This is based on the discursive formation that occurs in the text that describes if the power of the New Order regime is very strong.
