Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical problem-solving ability of students in solving geometry problem of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). Subjects were selected by considering the result of the mathematics ability of 53 students in grade X through a preliminary problem. Then, the students was grouped into 3 categories: high-skilled subject, medium-skilled subject, and low-skilled subject. From each categories, the researchers picked one student as a research subject considering their communication skills to make researcher easy to describe the subects? process in solving the problem. The research was held by give each subject a geometry problem that is adapted from PISA problem, and then the researchers provide an interview for each subject. The results of this study analyzed by a descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the high-skilled subject abled in understanding the problem, planning, and implementing strategy properly, as well as looking back in the calculation section. For the medium-skilled subject already made mistakes in understanding and planning the problem, so that the subject implemented the wrong strategy, besides the subject corrected to the concept only. The low-skilled subject made mistakes in understanding and planing the problem so that the subject implemented the wrong strategy. In addition, the low-skilled subject did not look back at his work.

Abstract

The research aims to depict students’ ability in solving mathematical problems based on Polya’s heuristic. Descriptive qualitative was used as a method in this research. Data were collected by observation, test, and interview. Based on the result of analysis obtained that the students with low level prior knowledge think heuristically in solving the problem solving test. For the students with medium level prior knowledge, the students think algorithmically and couldn’t solve the problem solving test imperfectly. Furthermore, the students with high level prior knowledge think algorithmically in solving the problem solving mathematics test and the other words, the students could solve the problem solving test well and fluently.

Abstract

Communication is an essential ability for every human being. In this study, the focus of communication was on students' mathematical communication. Mathematical communication is a person's ability to express their thoughts and is responsible for listening, interpreting, asking, and interpreting ideas from one to another to solve problems. This study aimed to describe the mathematical communication of Sombron Elementary School students in solving mathematical problems. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were 23 students in class VI Sombron Elementary School. Three issues were selected for more in-depth analysis because they represented three categories: high, medium, and low ability students. Based on the subjects' works, the students could not communicate their mathematical ideas well yet. The most common communication error was a mistake in changing the word problem into a settlement model form. Based on the results and discussions that have been carried out with three different subjects, high ability student (ST), moderate ability student (SS), and low ability student (SR) of Sombron Elementary School at class VI, it can be concluded that ST and SS understand the meaning of the problem given and they know what was asked from the issue, but they did not use a correct symbol while writing their idea. ST and SS also made some mistakes in using mathematics symbols.

Abstract

Abstrak: Kegiatan pelatihan ini bertujuan untuk mengenalkan dan meningkatkan pemahaman siswa/siswi anak berkebutuhan khusus tentang bangun datar, kubus, dan balok. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di SDLB Negeri Benpasi Kefamenanu yang berada di Kelurahan Benpasi, Kabupaten Timor Tengah Utara, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur. Yang menjadi peserta dalam kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah 15 orang siswa/siswi SDLB Negeri Benpasi Kefamenanu. Pelaksanaan pelatihan ini terdiri dari dua tahap: tahap pra kegiatan dan kegiatan. Tahap pra kegiatan dilakukan melalui pelaksanaan survey awal untuk mengetahui gambaran pembelajaran matematika anak berkebutuhan khusus jenjang sekolah dasar serta kendala yang dialami. Tahap kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui pelatihan dan evaluasi. Evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan angket tanggapan peserta. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi diperoleh informasi bahwa kegiatan pelatihan ini mendapatkan tanggapan yang positif dari peserta. Melalui pelatihan penggunaan media pembelajaran fun math yang disajikan, cukup menambah pengetahuan dan wawasan peserta yang dalam hal ini anak berkebutuhan khusus sehingga termotivasi untuk terus belajar guna peningkatan kemampuan akademik peserta di bidang matematika.Abstract: This training activity aimed to introduce and improve understanding of children with special needs about flat shapes, cubes, and blocks. This activity was carried out at the SDLB Negeri Benpasi Kefamenanu, located in Benpasi Village, North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The participants in this training activity were 15 students of SDLB Negeri Benpasi Kefamenanu. The implementation of this training consisted of two stages: pre-activity and activity stages. The pre-activity stage was carried out through the implementation of an initial survey to find out the description of mathematics learning for children with special needs at the elementary school level and the obstacles experienced. The activity stage was carried out through training and evaluating. The evaluation was carried out using a participant response questionnaire. Based on the evaluation results, it can be obtained information that this training activity received a positive response from the participants. Through training in the use of fun math learning media, it is sufficient to increase the knowledge and insight of participants, in this case children with special needs, so that they are motivated to continue learning in order to improve the participants' academic abilities in the field of mathematics.Keywords: Learning Media; Children With Special Needs; Fun Math

Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to provide socialization on the work of UTBK with math magic techniques in SMAN 1 and SMAN 2 Kefamenanu. Furthermore, the background of this socialization is to improve the students' reasoning ability through familiarizing themselves with students solving non-routine problems found during the implementation of UTBK, especially in mathematics. This community service was carried out from January to March 2020 with 40 participants. This activity consists of three stages starting with the assessment of the field, the implementation phase and finally the evaluation phase. In the field assessment stage, the servant determines the participants of the socialization, which is specifically for high school students of class xii, prepares administration, prepares materials and UTBK questions and then prepares a schedule. The second stage is the implementation phase in the form of a brief exposure to the UTBK, then giving samples of the UTBK questions for students to work on and scribing questions. The last stage is the evaluation stage in the form of an evaluation of the implementation of activities that have been arranged based on each task that has been given. Based on the socialization activities that have been carried out it can be concluded that these training activities increase students' knowledge about UTBK and add student skills in working on math UTBK questions . In addition, this training motivates students to be more active in learning mathematics and to be more mature in preparing for the upcoming UTBK.

Abstract

Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kemampuan metakognisi siswa. Jenis penelitian ini quasi eksperimen. Populasi siswa seluruh SMP Negeri 1 Pulau Rakyat. Sampel Kelas VIII-1 yang terdiri dari 32 siswa diberi Model Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari tes kemampuan komunikasi matematik, angket metakognisi. Analisis data menggunakan uji regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh kemampuan metakognisi terhadap komunikasi matematik siswa. Jika kemampuan metakognisi siswa tinggi maka kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa juga tinggi, begitu juga sebaliknya jika kemampuan metakognisi siswa rendah maka kemampuan komunikasi matematik siswa rendah. Kata Kunci : Metakognisi, Komunikasi Matematik, Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah.

Abstract

Abstrak: Matematika masih dianggap menjadi mata pelajaran yang sulit, yang mengakibatkan menjadi momok menakutkan bagi sebagian siswa. Anggapan ini dapat mengakibatkan kurangnya minat siswa untuk belajar matematika. Jika terus dibiarkan maka akan berdampak pada kemampuan matematika siswa. Di sisi lain pentingnya mempelajari matematika sehingga sangat disayangkan jika mata pelajaran matematika masih menjadi mata pelajaran yang kurang diminati oleh siswa. Oleh sebab itu, untuk mengatasi berbagai masalah yang muncul di sekolah, berbagai solusi ditawarkan salah satunya dengan menerapkan berbagai macam metode belajar. Metode belajar yang dapat digunakan sebagai salah satu solusi yaitu metode Gasing. Untuk dapat menerapkan metode belajar tersebut maka dilakukan Pelatihan Matematika Gasing. Kegiatan pengabdian bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemampuan matematika siswa serta meningkatkan minat belajar matematika siswa dengan mengajarkan matematika secara gampang, asik, dan menyenangkan. Adapun hasil pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman dan kemampuan matematika siswa berdasarkan hasil posttest dengan rata-rata nilai sebesar 86,5 serta meningkatnya minat belajar matematika siswa terlihat pada respons positif yang diperoleh dari hasil pengisian kuesioner peserta pelatihan matematika Gasing.Abstract: Mathematics is still considered a difficult subject, which results in a frightening specter for some students. This assumption can lead to a lack of students’ interest in learning mathematics. If it continues, it will have an impact on students' mathematical ability. On the other hand, learning mathematics is important thing to learn at school, so it is very unfortunate that mathematics is still a subject that is less attractive to students. Therefore, to overcome various problems that arise in school, various solutions are offered, one of which is by applying various learning methods. We can be use one of the learning methods as a solution is the Gasing method. To be able to apply this learning method, Gasing Mathematics Training is carried out. Community service activity aims to improve students' understanding and mathematical abilities and to increase students' interest in learning mathematics by teaching mathematics in an easy (Gmpang), fun (Asik), and fun way (Menyenangkan). The results of the training showed an increase in students' understanding and mathematical abilities based on the results of the posttest with an average score of 86.5 and students' interest in learning mathematics was seen in the positive responses obtained from the results of filling out the questionnaires for the Gasing mathematics training participants.

Abstract

Pendidikan di era 4.0 memberikan dampak dalam proses pembelajaran setelah sebelumnya hanya memanfaatkan media seadanya saja dari pengajar, dimana dengan perkembangan teknologi harus dapat memanfaatkan fasilitas internet dan dapat menunjang kompetensi mahasiswa secara teori dan praktek. Salah satu cara yang dapat dilakukan adalah dengan mengembangkan media berbahasa pemrograman open-source dengan penerapan computational thinking. Oleh karena itu tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuat media berbahasa pemrograman open-source dengan penerapan computational thinking dan untuk mengetahui efektivitas dari media yang dikembangkan terhadap hasil belajar mahasiswa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode R & D serta penelitian eksperimental dengan subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa Pendidikan Matematika Universitas Timor yang memrogram matakuliah Kalkulus Lanjut T.A. 2021/2022. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah lembar validasi ahli materi dan ahli media, angket respon mahasiswa, serta soal pre-test dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa media yang dikembangkan mendapatkan penilaian “sangat baik” dari ahli materi dan ahli media serta dari mahasiswa. Sebagai tambahan, terdapat peningkatan hasil tes mahasiswa sebesar 91,36 setelah diberikan perlakuan meskipun mahasiswa cenderung kurang mendapatkan penekanan pada tahap persevering. Kesimpulannya, media yang dikembangkan efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil belajar mahasiswa.
