Abstract

Zingiber officinale Rosc. Var. Rubrum is a plant that has been determined to have antibacteria activity for Propionibacterium acnes which serve as one of the cause of acnes. Gel is the topical form used to acne’s medication. Hydroxiethyl Cellulose is used as gelling agent in gel of red ginger’s root’s ethanol 96% extract. The goal of the research is to determine the influence of increased concentration of hydroxiethyl cellulose to the formulation of red ginger’s root’s extract of ethanol 96%. The gel was made into 3 formulas with each concentration of 2%, 2.5%, and 3%. Each formulas wastested about the organoleptics, homogenity, pH, and viscosity. The result shows that on organoleptic test, the gels don’t have any change, they are homogen and their pH were stable. Based on the viscosity test, 1st, 2nd and 3rd formulas have some increase with the addition of storage’s time. The formula 1 have less viscocity with the concentration of about 2%. Based on this research, we can conclude that the 1 st formula was the best one based on the physical, chemical quality and the organoleptic test.

Abstract

spa yang dinamis dengan efek gelembung (fizz), sekaligus berfungsi membersihkan, merelaksasi, dan menyehatkan kulit karena dalam formula bath salt menggunakan pengaroma sintetis. Namun, seiring meningkatnya kesadaran konsumen terhadap keamanan produk, penggunaan aroma sintetis menjadi perhatian karena potensi bahayanya bagi tubuh dan lingkungan. Menjawab tantangan ini, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berfokus pada pemanfaatan minyak esensial alami sebagai alternatif pengaroma yang lebih aman, khususnya kombinasi minyak esensial dari daun litsea (mengandung terpineol dengan bau khas), bunga Lavender (mengandung linalool), dan jeruk manis (mengandung limonen). Penggunaan minyak esensial alami tidak hanya meningkatkan nilai estetika, tetapi juga memberikan manfaat seperti relaksasi dan peningkatan mood tanpa risiko efek samping berbahaya dari pengaroma sintetis. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan mengedukasi 15 Kader PKK RW 008 Kelurahan Klender, Jakarta Timur, mengenai produk bath salt dan cara pembuatannya. Metode yang digunakan meliputi penetapan formula bath salt dengan bahan-bahan kering (natrium karbonat, asam sitrat, magnesium sulfat, tepung maizena, pewarna) dan bahan cair (minyak kelapa murni/vco, minyak esensial, air), pengujian produk, serta evaluasi pemahaman peserta melalui pre-test dan post-test. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman peserta yang signifikan, di mana total rata-rata jawaban benar mengalami kemajuan yang positif. Peningkatan paling nyata terlihat pada Pertanyaan 2 mengenai bahan utama yang bereaksi menghasilkan gelembung gas (dari 47% menjadi 93%). Lebih lanjut, uji Wilcoxon menunjukkan nilai signifikansi p=0.019, yang mengkonfirmasi bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan secara statistik antara nilai pre-test dan post-test. Dengan demikian, intervensi edukasi dan demonstrasi yang diterapkan berhasil secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman Kader PKK terhadap pembuatan produk bath salt dengan menggunakan pengaroma minyak esensial alami

Abstract

Indonesia has rich biodiversity that provides potential sources of traditional medicine, including Kaempferia galanga and Zingiber zerumbet rhizomes, which are widely used in ethnomedicine. This study aimed to evaluate the quality parameters and phytochemical constituents of both rhizomes in accordance with pharmacopoeial standards. The research involved simplicia preparation, extraction using 96% ethanol by maceration, and subsequent quality testing, including specific, non-specific, and phytochemical screening. Macroscopic and microscopic examinations confirmed the authenticity of the rhizomes, and purity tests showed that foreign organic matter levels were within the acceptable limits (≤2%). The extractive values demonstrated that K. galanga had a higher water-soluble content, whereas the two species had comparable ethanol fractions. Specific and non-specific quality parameters were quantitatively determined in compliance with the Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. The water-soluble extractive value was 11.30% for K. galanga and 9.20% for Z. zerumbet, while ethanol-soluble extractive values were both 5.30%. Loss on drying and moisture content remained below 10% for both rhizomes, meeting the required threshold. Specific gravity values of 0.8367 g/mL (K. galanga) and 0.79 g/mL (Z. zerumbet) indicated proper extract concentration. These parameters confirm the extracts' quality, stability, and suitability for further phytopharmaceutical development.
