Abstract

Abstract: The extensive coastal area of Langsa City provides abundant biological resources, making fishing the primary livelihood for most residents, with rebon shrimp as one of the most plentiful marine products and the main ingredient for producing belacan, a well-known local specialty. Belacan Aceh Awaina, an MSME established in the 1950s in Gampong Simpang Lhee and now employing seven workers, still faced problems in its traditional sun-drying method, which required a long processing time and depended heavily on weather conditions. This community service program aimed to improve production capacity and product quality by introducing a drying oven. The program was carried out in three stages: pre-activity, implementation, and evaluation. During the pre-activity stage, the team conducted discussions and interviews to identify problems and design appropriate solutions. In the implementation stage, the team provided training and hands-on assistance in operating the drying oven. Finally, in the evaluation stage, interviews were conducted to assess changes after adopting the new technology. The results showed significant improvements: drying time decreased from 3–4 days to 5–6 hours, production capacity increased from 83 kg to 250 kg per day, processing time became more efficient by 66.6%, and the product quality became more uniform, hygienic, and overall better.

Abstract

Palm oil frond sap (NPS), rich in fermentable sugars and essential minerals, is a renewable substrate for the production of biocompatible biomaterials. This study aims to review the utilization of  of OPFJ as a culture medium for BC biosynthesis, its functionalization with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and the potential of the resulting composite’ for wound dressing applications. The method used was a literature review by collecting the latest and most recent journals, recording and analyzing the results of the utilization of OPFJ with AgNPs. The results showed   that OPFJ-based BC exhibits nanofibrillar morphology, high crystallinity, and good mechanical stability. The incorporation of AgNPs enhances antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, providing a dual-functional dressing material. Nonetheless, limitations persist in silver release control, cytotoxicity management, and large-scale production. Future studies should focus on pretreatment optimization of OPFJ, green synthesis of AgNPs, and in vivo evaluations to ensure clinical viability.

Abstract

Diversifying mud crab waste into dimsum and nugget products can increase the economic value of mud crabs cultivated by the Bayeun Geutanyo Forest Farmers (KTH) group in East Aceh. Dimsum and nuggets were chosen because they are foods that are popular with all ages, and can be prepared in a variety of types and flavors. This food can be served in small portions and is considered healthier because it is low in fat. Therefore the cooking process is done by steaming and is rich in protein using crab as the basic ingredient. The aim of this PKM activity is to provide training and knowledge in making dimsum and nuggets to KTH women, as a problem solution for partners, where the selling price of mud crabs which are damaged during harvest is low. The implementation of PKM is carried out in several activity stages, namely: 1) location survey, 2) preparation stage, 3) socialization, 4) training, and 5) monitoring and evaluation. Results of the implementation of this PKM activity, partners have the knowledge and ability to make healthy and delicious dim sum and nuggets, so that they are marketable and can improve the family's economic level. Apart from that, partners receive production equipment that can be used for business continuity so that they can continue to increase their economic income.

Abstract

This Community Service (PKM) activity was carried out in Alur Cucur village, Aceh Tamiang Regency, an area with great potential for cocoa commodity development. However, local farmers still face various obstacles, such as limited market access, low cocoa bean selling prices, and the lack of processed product innovation. Through this program, the PKM Team of the Cut Nyak Dhien University of Science provided assistance to the Buloh Tamiang Farmers Group to increase the added value of cocoa beans through training in chocolate making, packaging, and digital marketing. The implementation method included an initial survey, socialization, production training, packaging technique assistance, and monitoring and evaluation. In addition, partners received production equipment that can be used to support business sustainability. The results of the activity showed an increase in partners' skills and knowledge in the process of processing cocoa into chocolate bars and powder, including an understanding of the manufacturing process, as well as hygienic and attractive packaging techniques with aluminum foil. Partners' understanding of promotion through digital media such as WhatsApp Groups, Instagram, and other digital platforms, also increase. This program successfully increased partners' motivation and independence in developing cocoa processing businesses. Going forward, follow-up measures in the form of further training, product innovation, and expansion of partnership networks are needed so that the development of the local chocolate industry can be sustainable and provide a significant economic impact for the people of Aceh Tamiang.
