Abstract

Abstract

Negative accusations regarding the credibility of Imam Jarir al-Thabari in Tafsir Jami’ al-Bayan, which includes many Israiliyat narrations, are often the discourse of Qur’anic researchers from time to time. But is Imam al-Thabari not careful and indifferent to this? The purpose of this paper is to understand the construction and present a critique of the story of Israiliyat in the book of Jami’ al-Bayan, focusing on the story of the temptation of the Prophet Yusuf as. and the Examination of the Prophet Daud as., which the author examines from various views of scholars and mufassir. The method used in this paper is a qualitative descriptive-based literature approach based on the Story of Israiliyat in the work of Ibn Jarir At-Thabari. The data collection is by collecting several texts that are in accordance with the topics discussed in the form of articles and books and analyzed with keyword analysis techniques, abstracts, and results or conclusions on similar sources. The results found 3 things: First, that in the book of Tafsir Al-Ṭabari there are several narrations that contain Israiliyat; Both shahih, dhaif, until declared rejected. Second, the Narration of Israiliyat in the story of Yusuf’s Temptation and Daud’s trial was declared unacceptable because of historical defects. Thirdly, Regarding the reasoning behind the Israiliyat narrative itself, Imam al-Thabari tries to convey only memorized narrations, the decision on this narrative is left to the reader

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the differences in religious identity among high school students based on gender in Sungai Banyak City. Religious identity is a crucial aspect in shaping students' character, encompassing dimensions of belief, religious practices, and moral values. The focus of this study is to describe how male and female students understand and practice religious values, as well as the factors influencing these differences. This research employs a quantitative approach with a random sampling technique. The sample consists of 1248 first-year high school students selected randomly from a population of 167 students. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to the students. Data analysis was conducted using [statistical analysis method, eg, t-test, ANOVA, etc.] to evaluate gender differences in religiosity, as well as to test the statistical significance of the findings. The findings indicate that female students exhibit a higher level of religious identity compared to male students. This result reflects a greater involvement of females in religious practices, both in school and in community-based activities. However, this difference is statistically significant, with a p-value < 0.05, indicating that gender has a significant effect on students' religious identity. Social and cultural factors, such as gender roles in societal norms, play a significant role in shaping these differences. The implications of this study emphasize the need for a more inclusive approach in religious education to accommodate the needs of both male and female students in a balanced manner. Additionally, this study contributes to the development of a religious education curriculum that is relevant to local contexts and gender differences.

Abstract

Singkel (Premna serratifolia Linn.) is a medicinal plant commonly found in tropical regions, including Indonesia, which contains flavonoids, alkaloids, polyphenols, and triterpenoids. Flavonoids in singkel leaves act as antioxidants that can prevent oxidative stress, which is a causative factor of degenerative and chronic diseases such as cancer, arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases. This study aims to determine the effects of total flavonoid content and IC50 values in singkel leaves based on extraction methods, solvent concentration, and the ratio of extract to solvent. The methods used include maceration, soxhlet extraction, and Microwave-Assisted Extraction (MAE), with ethanol solvent concentrations of 60%, 70%, 80%, and 96%, and extract-to-solvent ratios of 1:10, 1:20, and 1:30. Antioxidant activity was measured using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method with UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results showed that the soxhlet extraction method yielded the highest total flavonoid content of 24.56±1.81 mgQE/g with an IC50 value of 20.31±1.58 μg/mL. The 96% solvent concentration provided the best results with a total flavonoid content of 26.12±0.06 mgQE/g and an IC50 value of 15.51±2.17 μg/mL. In the solvent ratio testing, the 1:20 ratio showed the highest total flavonoid content of 19.37±0.5 mgQE/g, while the 1:10 ratio provided the best IC50 value of 11.99±1.02 μg/mL. In conclusion, the extraction method, solvent concentration, and solvent ratio significantly affect the flavonoid content and antioxidant activity of singkel leaves.

Abstract

Doctoral education and PhD completion are influenced by various factors, including student-related, institution, and supervisor. This study explores PhD scholars’ considerations in selecting supervisors and documents their experiences regarding accessibility, supervisory meetings, and feedback. PhD scholars from four universities were interviewed. The data were analyzed using the Braun and Clarke thematic analysis approach. The findings reveal that Pakistani PhD scholars meticulously select their PhD supervisor keeping in view research related factors, professional and personal factors of supervisors. Findings also show that PhD scholars emphasized alignment of research area, good fit, and accessibility for good and timely feedback particularly in cases where supervisory relationships may be characterized as toxic. PhD scholars had mixed supervisory experiences during their PhD study. Some PhD scholars deemed their supervisors as “ideal”; however, there were cases of toxic supervision. The study emphasizes the need for universities to provide academic assistance and guidelines, as well as to create a conducive environment for PhD scholars and supervisors by enhancing communication, support systems, and training opportunities. The study contributes to the understanding of these challenges and aims to provide insights for improving the doctoral education process in and beyond Pakistan.
