Abstract

This research was conducted in response to the increasing cases of HIV/AIDS in Yogyakarta, particularly those caused by heterosexual groups, with a focus on the Bong Suwung prostitution area. The objective of this research is to understand the strategies employed by opinion leaders in suppressing the transmission of HIV/AIDS among commercial sex workers in that area. This research uses a qualitative method involving observation, interviews, and documentation, revealing two types of strategies - general and specific - involving steps such as routine health check-ups, affordable condom distribution, regular meetings, socialization, and the establishment of specialized associations. There are challenges in conducting this research, including low education, difficult economic conditions, age factors, and social stigma. Intensive approach strategies that are relevant to the theory of social penetration proved successful in building close relationships with sex workers, enabling them to receive more effective information and care. This research underscores the importance of collaboration with various stakeholders in HIV/AIDS prevention efforts, addressing social stigma, and establishing deeper relationships with HIV/AIDS patients. These actions are essential to tackle the complexity of this issue and minimize the spread of HIV/AIDS in prostitution areas like Bong Suwung.

Abstract

Students' low motivation to learn Islamic Religious Education subjects and the lack of research on the social factors that influence it are crucial gaps in efforts to develop faith-based character education in Indonesia. This study tested the hypothesis that quality peer interaction significantly increases students' intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in Islamic Education learning through social support, collaborative learning, and strengthening religious identity.  This study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 200 students in various junior high schools in Indramayu Regency, and analyzed using linear regression to see the relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The results showed that there is a significant relationship between peer interaction and students' learning motivation level in PAI subjects. The findings make a theoretical contribution to the understanding of the role of peer communities in religious education and offer practical implications for educators to optimize social dynamics in PAI learning, including the implementation of peer-assisted learning strategies, the formation of religious value-based learning communities, and the integration of collaborative activities that support the internalization process of Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine leadership communication patterns in motivating employees through the Spiritual Building program at Aqiqah Al-Kautsar Yogyakarta, an Islamic value based service organization. This phenomenon arises from the need of religious institutions to foster work motivation that is not only professional but also spiritual. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method, allowing for an in-depth exploration of communication practices within social and religious contexts. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with leaders and employees, participatory observations of Spiritual Building activities, and analysis of internal documentation. The findings reveal three main themes: (1) a leadership communication style that is assertive, reflective, and humanistic; (2) the integration of Islamic values into daily communication; and (3) the significant impact of spiritual communication on employee motivation and work behavior. Leadership communication functions not only as a means of delivering instructions but also as a medium for internalizing religious values, strengthening loyalty, and cultivating a transcendent sense of work. These findings broaden the understanding of spiritual leadership in Islamic service organizations and highlight the strategic role of communication in fostering a religious work culture. The implications of this study are relevant to the development of value-based leadership theories and managerial practices in religious organizations. Future research is recommended to use a comparative design to assess the sustainability of spiritual communication’s impact in similar institutions.

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of education has transformed Islamic Religious Education (PAI) while simultaneously generating significant pedagogical and normative challenges, particularly in sustaining Islamic pedagogy and moral–spiritual formation within digital learning environments. When digital media integration is not guided by value-oriented pedagogy, PAI risks becoming technocratic and instrumental, undermining its core mission of cultivating akhlaq karimah, religious consciousness, and ethical agency among learners. This study aims to analyze and formulate a digital media integration model for PAI learning in Cirebon that is pedagogically transformative and normatively grounded in Islamic educational values. Using a mixed methods approach with a sequential explanatory design, quantitative data were collected through a survey of 30 PAI teachers in schools and madrasahs in the Cirebon region, followed by qualitative data from open-ended interviews. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the Miles and Huberman qualitative model, drawing on TPACK theory, the SAMR model, and an Islamic pedagogy framework emphasizing the integration of ‘ilm, iman, and ‘amal salih. The findings indicate that digital integration in PAI remains largely at substitution and augmentation levels, yet reflective, contextual, and collaborative digital practices significantly enhance student engagement and moral internalization. The study concludes that effective digital integration in PAI requires a value-conscious Islamic pedagogical framework supported by institutional policy and continuous professional development.

Abstract

This article aims to investigate the tradition of muhadlarah in Mts Salafiyyah Menganti Gresik. It focuses on how this tradition serves as a medium for Mts Salafiyyah students to learn and study Islam as Rahmatan lil 'alamin or Islam for All. By engaging in muhadlarah, students not only deepen their understanding of Islamic teachings but also learn to convey these teachings in a manner that is respectful, non-intimidating, and accessible to diverse audiences. This approach ensures that the values of kindness, tolerance, and universal welfare are integral to their religious education and future endeavors as da'is. This study employs a qualitative method and a sociological communication approach through in-depth interviews with various relevant resources, including the school's headmasters.  This study discovered that the tradition of muhadlarah plays a significant influence in developing students into autonomous individuals and, on the other hand, increasing their eagerness to study Islam as rahmatan lil 'alamin.  It was also discovered that teachers and assatidz play a vital role in directing the  students  to  study  and  understand Islam. In fact, by  conducting this tradition, students have a bigger    enthusiasm    on    reading    books    about    Islam, discussing Islam, and more importantly, attempting to know the danger of radical acts (radicalism) in religious lives and practices.
