Abstract

This research was conducted to evaluate Marital Interaction Value-Based Counseling as A Strategy To Build Muslim Family Resilience (Case Study In Palopo City). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with five married couples aged 25-45 years to explore their experiences and perceptions related to relational values that support resilient family functioning. Thematic analysis identified six main dimensions, namely: commitment, empathy, effective communication, trust, emotional support, and acceptance. These themes reflect key processes in the Family Resilience Framework and are in line with the principles of constructive marital communication. These findings indicate that the integration of marital values into structured counseling is relevant and effective in increasing the adaptive capacity of couples. In addition, it is perceived as an acceptable, applicable, and beneficial intervention. This study contributes to the development of contextual and family resilience-based counseling interventions, and offers practical implications for counselors in Family and Marriage Counseling Service settings.

Abstract

Lack of parental attention is a psychosocial issue that can significantly affect students' emotional well-being, especially during early adulthood. This study aims to explore the coping strategies used by students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo in dealing with the lack of parental attention. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method, involving three main informants who meet the criteria of experiencing insufficient parental attention. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings reveal that the coping strategies used by the students fall into two main categories: emotion-focused coping and problem-focused coping. Emotion-focused strategies include seeking emotional support from peers, engaging in religious activities such as prayer, and participating in enjoyable activities to release emotional tension. Meanwhile, problem-focused coping is evident in students' efforts to stay academically focused, establish positive routines, and foster independence. These strategies serve to alleviate psychological stress due to the lack of parental attention and support students in maintaining mental stability and academic functioning. The study also highlights the importance of social support and spiritual approaches as effective coping resources in the student context.

Abstract

Abstract

The main challenge in early childhood parenting based on Islamic values and local culture lies in the gap between the ideal principles taught in religious teachings and the culture influenced by modernization. This study aims to examine early childhood parenting patterns based on Islamic values and local culture as an effort to strengthen the family's role in character formation of the children. Using a qualitative approach and phenomenological methods, this study involved five families selected through snowball sampling in Palopo City, South Sulawesi. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analysed using reduction techniques to uncover key themes from parenting experiences. The results show that parents implement various strategies in Islamic parenting, such as inviting children to worship, limiting interaction between boys and girls, developing Islamic character, and instilling values of faith and honesty from an early age. Furthermore, the Bugis Makassar cultural approach is also an important part of parenting, instilling values such as Alempureng (honesty), Amaccang (intellectualism), Agenttengeng (assertiveness), Reso (hard work), and Siri (shame/self-esteem). The integration of Islamic values and local culture strengthens family resilience and shapes children's identities with noble character. These findings emphasize the importance of parents as the first educators in the family and the need for a holistic approach to early childhood parenting. This research contributes to the development of parenting models that align with Islamic teachings and local wisdom, and are relevant in the context of a multicultural society.
