Abstract

The development of vocabulary across various fields of science, including science education, continues to increase. However, the emergence of new terms that resemble commonly known words often leads to misunderstandings in comprehending the material. This study aims to develop a Student Worksheet (LKM) designed to enhance mastery of scientific vocabulary in science education. The research employed a development study using the 4D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), with data analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The instruments used included product evaluation sheets from experts and student response sheets. The developed product is a worksheet containing unique news about nature, along with activities to check a list of unique events and their scientific names in English. The validation results from experts showed an average score of 3.51, categorized as excellent, while the practicality assessment by students resulted in a score of 3.54, also falling under the excellent category.

Abstract

Culture-based education serves as a pivotal approach to managing student diversity by integrating cultural and social dynamics into the curriculum. Despite the recognized benefits of Ethno-STEAM, existing instruments rarely capture critical thinking within culturally contextualized science learning, revealing a clear gap in both research and practice. This study aims to develop and validate a critical thinking assessment instrument for Ethno-STEAM-based Integrated Science learning. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) design, the study involved 150 Physics Science education students. The ADDIE model guided the process, starting with a needs analysis through interviews and classroom observations, followed by iterative stages of design, development, pilot implementation, and evaluation. Instrument feasibility was assessed through validity, reliability, differentiability, and difficulty tests. The resulting 14-item instrument received expert ratings of 3.775 (material) and 3.804 (media), categorised as excellent. It demonstrated strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.91), with 12 of 15 items (80%) meeting validity criteria (r > 0.195). Items 7, 10, and 15 were invalid due to lower coefficients. This instrument offers educators a culturally responsive tool to evaluate and enhance students’ critical thinking in Physics Science classrooms

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has profoundly influenced family parenting styles, especially in managing the growing threats of digital-age juvenile delinquency, such as online gambling, sexting, and illegal loan practices. Despite this, many parents still face limitations in both knowledge and digital skills, making it difficult to guide and supervise their children's online activities effectively. This community engagement initiative was designed to enhance parental awareness and understanding of digital parenting. Conducted in Bometen Hamlet, Ngandong Village, Gantiwarno Subdistrict, Gunung Kidul Regency, the program applied a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach. A total of 30 participants—16 parents and 14 adolescents—were actively involved in four stages: observation, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation outcomes revealed a significant improvement in both awareness and comprehension of digital risks. Adolescents demonstrated a 66% increase in awareness and a 41% improvement in understanding, while parents showed a 33% rise in awareness and a 61% gain in understanding. These findings highlight the effectiveness of participatory educational strategies in building stronger digital parenting capacity and fostering more adaptive and communicative family environments in the face of technological change.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on science process skills and science learning outcomes using the posttest-only control group design. This study was conducted on fourth-grade students of Galang District State Elementary School. The study population was 125 students, and the sample was 64 students. Scientific attitude data were collected using a questionnaire method, and science learning outcomes data were collected using a test method. Data were analyzed using MANOVA, which was assisted by SPSS 20.00 for Windows. The results of the study showed: (1) there were differences in science process skills and science learning outcomes between students who learned using guided inquiry learning model and conventional learning model (p<0.05), (2) there were significant differences in science process skills in science learning between students who learned using guided inquiry learning model and conventional learning model (p<0.05), (3) there were significant differences in science learning outcomes between students who learned using guided inquiry learning model and conventional learning model (p<0.05).
