Abstract

Pharmaceutical preparations, such as medicines, traditional remedies, and cosmetics, play a vital role in maintaining health. However, many adolescents engage in self-medication without adequate knowledge, including recognizing logos and the forms of medicines on packaging. This lack of literacy increases the risk of incorrect drug use and harmful side effects. Studies indicate that most adolescents rely on information from advertisements or peers and frequently purchase medications without a doctor's prescription, which can jeopardize their health. Education on drug logos and forms is crucial, especially for high school students, to promote rational and responsible drug use. This program aims to enhance students' literacy regarding drug types, how to read information on packaging, and the importance of recognizing visual differences between drugs. The education was conducted through an interactive seminar at SMAU Haf-Sa Zainul Hasan BPPT using a visual approach, introducing various drug forms and logos, as well as how to review information on drug packaging. The results showed a significant improvement in students' understanding. Before the education, only 50% of the students were knowledgeable about drug logos and forms. After the program, 100% of the students demonstrated comprehension, as evidenced by the post-test results. This program successfully highlighted the importance of health education in fostering rational understanding of drug use. Additionally, students are expected to become agents of change by disseminating this knowledge to their families and communities.

Abstract

Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) appears as the next generation of lipid nanoparticles which overcomes the weaknesses of Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN). NLC is a delivery system that offers several advantages, such as significantly improved entrapment efficiency, reduced drug expulsion during long-term storage, and increased contact between the drug and the stratum corneum, thereby enhancing drug penetration. The methods used to manufacture NLC have high energy-required such as high-pressure homogenization and high shear homogenization, low energy-required such as microemulsification and phase inversion, and very low or no energy-required such as solvent evaporation and solvent injection. The basic components of an NLC are solid lipids, liquid lipids, and surfactants or mixtures of surfactants. This narrative review refers to several previously published databases on the types, preparation methods, and physical properties of NLC. This review focuses on descriptions related to the NLC as a topical drug delivery system.

Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by an infestation of the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. This condition spreads easily, particularly in densely populated environments such as Islamic boarding schools and residential schools, which often face limitations in hygiene and sanitation facilities. The primary symptom of scabies is intense itching, especially at night, which can interfere with comfort, sleep quality, and students' concentration in learning. In addition to its physical effects, scabies also causes psychosocial disturbances due to social stigma and decreased self-confidence. The lack of student knowledge about scabies and inadequate practice of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) exacerbates the situation. This Community Service Program (PKM) aimed to increase students’ knowledge and awareness regarding scabies prevention through structured health education. The activity was conducted at SMA Zainul Hasan 1 Genggong, involving 32 student participants. The implementation methods included interactive counseling, distribution of educational leaflets, and knowledge evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding, with an increase of 34.4%—from 62.5% (categorized as very good) before the intervention to 96.9% after the intervention. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of educational approaches in enhancing student awareness and knowledge regarding scabies prevention and the importance of applying PHBS in daily life. This activity is expected to serve as a promotive and preventive intervention model that can be sustainably implemented in other school environments to foster a healthy culture from an early age.

Abstract

Daun sirih (Piper betle L.) mengandung senyawa aktif yang berkhasiat sebagai antiseptik dan antiinflamasi, serta telah dikembangkan dalam berbagai sediaan farmasi seperti kapsul dan sediaan cairan. Amilum Zea mays L. atau pati jagung merupakan salah satu bahan penghancur alami yang umum digunakan dalam formulasi tablet. Amilum ini menyerap air dan mengembang, sehingga mempercepat disintegrasi tablet. Selain itu, amilum Zea mays L. memiliki daya hancur yang baik karena memiliki struktur granulosa yang mudah menyerap cairan tubuh, sehingga mempercepat pecahnya tablet menjadi partikel kecil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan formulasi tablet ekstrak daun sirih menggunakan variasi konsentrasi amilum Zea mays L. (5%, 10%, 15%) sebagai bahan penghancur dengan metode granulasi basah. Evaluasi meliputi karakterisasi fisikgranul (kecepatan waktu alir dan sudut diam) serta tablet (organoleptis, keseragaman bobot, kekerasan, dan kerapuhan). Hasil pengujian menunjukkan peningkatan konsentrasi amilum Zea mays L. meningkatkan kecepatan waktu alir (7,23±0,44 gram/detik, 8,35±0,47 gram/detik, dan 9,07±1,47 gram/detik masing-masing untuk konsentrasi 5%, 10%, dan 15%), dan menurunkan sudut diam (27,92±0,07°, 27,47±0,06°, dan 27,02±0,12° masing-masing untuk konsentrasi 5%, 10%, dan 15%). Tablet dari ketiga formula memiliki bau khas sirih, berbentuk bulat, dan warna agak kehijauan. Semua formula memenuhi syarat keseragaman bobot tablet. Sementara itu, peningkatan konsentrasi amilum menyebabkan penurunan kekerasan tablet dan peningkatankerapuhan. Kesimpulannya, ekstrak daun sirih dapat diformulasikan menjadi tablet menggunakan amilum Zea mays L. sebagai bahan penghancur alami. Formula dengan konsentrasi 10% (F2) memberikan hasil paling optimum dengan keseimbangan terbaik antara kekerasan dan kerapuhan tablet.
