Abstract

Dengan demikian, pendekatan pemberdayaan partisipatif melalui penguatan kapasitas peer educator terbukti menjadi strategi efektif dalam mendukung upaya promotif dan preventif kesehatan di komunitas lokal.ABSTRACTAdolescent health issues in local communities represent a strategic concern that requires special attention, particularly due to the tendency toward risky behaviors that can negatively affect their quality of life and future. Assessment results revealed a low level of implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors, as well as a tendency to engage in risky behaviors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and premarital sexual activity. This community engagement program aims to empower local communities by strengthening the capacity of peer educators as agents of change through a Participatory Empowerment approach. The program was implemented in several stages, including situation analysis, advocacy, peer educator training, and the establishment of adolescent health posts (posyandu remaja). In addition, a youth communication forum was formed as a sustainable platform for disseminating health information. The results showed an increase in adolescents’ understanding of health issues, the formation of an active communication forum, and improved access to health information and services. Thus, the participatory empowerment approach through strengthening peer educator capacity has proven to be an effective strategy in supporting health promotion and prevention efforts in local communities.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a critical transitional period marked by physical, emotional, and social changes, including sexual development, which may lead to risky dating behaviours. The Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI) in 2017 reported that the majority of adolescents aged 15–17 have engaged in romantic relationships involving physical intimacy, ranging from holding hands to genital touching. Limited knowledge and a lack of positive attitudes toward reproductive health increase adolescents’ vulnerability to premarital sexual behaviour and its consequences, such as unwanted pregnancy, early marriage, sexually transmitted infections, and HIV/AIDS. Objective: This research aims to test the effectiveness of the “Ruang Kespro” educational program, which is based on the Positive Youth Development (PYD) framework, implemented through youth health posts in improving adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards reproductive health. Methods: A descriptive quantitative research design with an educational intervention approach was used, involving 30 members of the Youth Red Cross (PMR) at SMA N 3 Semarang, selected purposively. The intervention was conducted in three sessions during October and November 2024. Data were collected through observation, documentation, pre-test, and post-test, and analyzed descriptively using SPSS. Result: The intervention led to a significant increase in knowledge scores from 87.00 to 98.33 (p = 0.001) and attitude scores from 86.17 to 99.67 (p = 0.001). These findings indicate that the PYD-based educational intervention through youth posyandu was effective in enhancing adolescents' knowledge and attitudes regarding reproductive health. Conclusion: The “Ruang Kespro” program successfully strengthened adolescents' understanding and positive attitudes toward reproductive health. It is recommended that schools and extracurricular organizations, such as PMR, continue and expand similar educational programs and youth health services. Future research should involve larger sample sizes to enhance population representation and statistical power for greater generalizability.

Abstract

The phenomenon of adolescents involved in the prostitution industry was widespread globally, including in Indonesia. This study focused on the changing patterns of prostitution, motivations, perceptions, and risks faced by adolescent sex workers. The research used a mixed-method approach, employing both quantitative and qualitative designs. Data were collected through surveys involving adolescent sex workers and general adolescents, as well as in-depth interviews with adolescent sex workers. The quantitative study included 360 respondents, comprising 180 general adolescents and 180 adolescent sex workers, while the qualitative study involved 30 adolescent sex workers as informants. The research was conducted in Bali, South Kalimantan, West Java, North Sulawesi, North Sumatra, and Central Java provinces. The findings revealed a shift in prostitution patterns among adolescents from conventional (street-based) prostitution to online prostitution via digital platforms. Adolescents had greater opportunities to become online sex workers due to the diversity of social media platforms and service types available. Economic factors accounted for 81.7% of adolescents' reasons for becoming sex workers. There was a disparity in perceptions between general adolescents and the actual challenges faced by adolescent sex workers. Among adolescent sex workers, 80% had low reproductive health knowledge, 23% had experienced sexually transmitted infections (STIs), 16% had faced unwanted pregnancies, and 7% had undergone abortions. It was concluded that there were significant changes in the patterns, motivations, perceptions, and risks associated with adolescent sex work.

Abstract

Persons with disabilities are a vulnerable group that often face barriers in emergency situations, including disasters. Therefore, strengthening preparedness capacity needs to be carried out from an early stage. The SI-PANDAI program (First Aid Preparedness for Disability Companions) was implemented as an empowerment effort to improve basic first aid knowledge and skills at the elementary level of Special Schools (SLB) in Pekalongan Regency. The activities were conducted through socialization, demonstrations, simulations, and hands-on practice using a participatory learning approach. Program evaluation was carried out through observation of student engagement and feedback from teachers. The results showed that students actively participated in all training sessions, were able to practice simple first aid steps such as treating minor wounds, performing basic evacuation, and recognizing disaster warning signs. SLB teachers responded positively, stating that the program was beneficial and should be continued sustainably. In conclusion, the implementation of SI-PANDAI proved effective as an adaptive empowerment innovation for first aid preparedness among children with special needs and has the potential to support the development of disaster-resilient inclusive schools.

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia estimated to cause 2.6 million deaths and 29.7 million disability problems. The incidence of Noncommunicable diseases (NCD) such as coronary heart disease (CHD), type2 diabetes, and some types of cancer can be involved with hypercholesterolemiaed. Red dragonfruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) peel contains total phenolic compounds, flavonoids and dietary fiber.Red dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) peel, which was originally considered as trash can beused to produce yogurt. This study aimed to analyse the effect of red dragon fruit (Hylocereuspolyrhizus) peel yogurt on levels of fasting blood glucose, lipid profile and microbial activity inhypercholesterolemic Wistar rats. This was an experimental- research with pre and post-test control group design. A total of 25 male Wistar rats were divided into five groups randomly. Hypercholesterolemic conditions in the Wistar rats were obtained from consuming solution consisted of 1% of cholesterol powder and 0.5% of cholic acid for 14 days. Each Wistar rats received 20 g/day standard feed. The grouping were Group 1 (negative control group); Group 2 (hypercholesterolemic group); Group 3 (1.8 ml/kg b.wt/day of dragon fruit peel yogurt); Group 4 (2.7 ml/kg b.wt/day of dragon fruit peel yogurt); Group 5 (3.6 ml/kg b.wt/day of dragon fruit peel yogurt). The intervention was performed for 28 days. Blood glucose levels and lipid profiles weremeasured before and after the intervention. Blood glucose, lipid profiles and microbial activity weremeasured using GOD-PAP, automatic biochemistry analyser and pour plate method respectively.Data were analysed using paired t test and one-way ANOVA. Blood glucose, TC, LDL-C, TGlevels were decreased, and the other side HDL-C was increased significantly in the Group dragonfruit peel. There was no difference in the total number of microbes in all groups. Dragon fruit peelyogurt is effective in improving glucose levels and lipid profile of hypercholesterolemic Wistar rats.

Abstract

Anemia is a common health problem among adolescent girls in Indonesia. One preventative measure is the regular consumption of iron (Fe) tablets, but compliance remains low. This study aims to analyze factors associated with adherence to iron (Fe) tablet consumption among adolescent girls in Pati Regency. This study was a quantitative, observational, and analytical study with a cross-sectional design. The population was 291 female students at SMP Negeri 1 Cluwak, with a sample of 187 respondents selected using simple random sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire, and data analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test or its alternative test with a significance level of <0.05. The results showed that knowledge factors (p<0.001; PR= 3.59; 95% CI=2.56-5.05), attitudes (p=0.001; PR= 1.52 95% CI=1.16-1.98), motivation (p<0.001; PR= 3.27; 95% CI=2.45-4.38), and support from health workers (p=0.011; PR= 1.36; 95% CI=1.08-1.71), were significantly related to compliance behavior in consuming iron (Fe) tablets. Meanwhile, support from schools, peers, family, and access to information did not show a significant relationship. It was concluded that compliance behavior of adolescent girls in consuming iron (Fe) tablets was influenced by internal factors and support from health workers. It is recommended that health workers and schools be more active in providing education and routine monitoring to improve compliance in consuming iron (Fe) tablets in adolescent girls.
