Abstract

This article or articles aims to measure the resilience index of tourist village communities in DIY, especially in independent and developed tourist villages, and find the factors that influence it. The problem is focused on the biggest impact of the COVID-19 pandemic faced by local communities that have a large dependence on tourism activities. This research is quantitative. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey conducted with the community of tourism village entrepreneurs in DIY. This research focuses the sample on independent and developed tourist villages that are more prepared to face the pandemic. A total of 130 samples were taken with a confidence level of 92% based on the Slovin formula. The first research objective was analyzed by adopting the HCRI (Household Climate Resilience Index) calculation and the second objective was analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. HCRI calculations are analyzed with the help of tables, percentages, and HCRI models which are used to assess community resilience based on respondents' responses to 31 resilience indicators. Resilience weights of 1-5 are given to indicators classified on a Likert scale, namely very high (5), high (4), medium (3), low (2), and very low (1), which means household resilience increases as the calculated value increases. The final results of this calculation are classified into five categories starting from very low resilience to very high resilience. The results of the analysis show that communities in developed and independent tourist villages in DIY have relatively high resilience in facing the COVID-19 pandemic. This resilience is influenced by economic, institutional, and social capital factors. However, tourist villages in DIY still need to be aware of the threat of vulnerability that may still occur during the COVID-19 pandemic in 12 indicators related to the economic condition of the community. These results have implications for the need to increase community resilience in developed/independent tourist villages by considering vulnerability factors in this research. In this case, both the government and tourist village managers are advised to focus more on programs to improve the quality of tourism business actors' resources and also the ability to mitigate economic losses after the COVID-19 pandemic to maintain the stability and sustainability of the economy of tourist village communities.

Abstract

Abstract. The Urban Heat Island (UHI) phenomenon refers to increased air temperatures in urban areas resulting from high building density and the reduction of green open spaces (GOS). Uncontrolled land-use conversion is a major contributor to this phenomenon, which has also been observed in Lumajang Regency in recent years. This study aims to estimate the required additional GOS and identify potential locations for its development as a UHI mitigation strategy. A quantitative approach was applied using secondary data obtained from relevant government institutions. Data were analyzed through spatial analysis techniques, including the calculation of GOS requirements based on Law Number 26 of 2007. The findings indicate that Lumajang Regency requires an additional 28.55 hectares of GOS. Site selection for GOS development was based on several parameters, including the Thermal Humidity Index (THI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), slope gradient, and proximity to residential areas. Overall, 134.93 hectares of land were identified as potentially suitable for GOS development. These results provide a policy reference for local government planning to mitigate UHI impacts.

Abstract

Serang City, as the capital of Banten Province, has met the urban green open space standards, achieving a percentage of 59.64%. Serang City Square is one of the representations of public green open spaces in the area. This study aims to identify the extent to which Serang City Square fulfills its ecological, socio-cultural, aesthetic, and economic functions as a public green open space. This study is based on the direct perceptions of visitors and addresses a research gap, as perception-based evaluations of public green open spaces remain limited, particularly in the context of Serang City Square. This research is a quantitative descriptive study. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey and field observations. The questionnaire survey was conducted with 100 visitors of Serang City Square. Field observations were also carried out to complement the questionnaire data. The data were then analyzed using descriptive statistical and qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The results indicate that Serang City Square has fulfilled most of its ecological and economic functions; however, some aspects of its social and aesthetic functions remain suboptimal. This is shown by the absence of children’s play areas, public perception of poor cleanliness and sanitation, and insufficient lighting that affects comfort and environmental aesthetics. These findings indicate the need for intervention by the Serang City Government to strengthen the functionality of Serang City Square as a public green open space.

Abstract

This study was driven by the need to understand the multidimensional vulnerability of urban slum communities, which involves not only housing conditions but also the social and economic capacities of residents. Morokrembangan Subdistrict in Surabaya was selected as the study area because it represents a densely populated slum located in a coastal–industrial zone with significant environmental pressure. The research applied a qualitative approach using primary data collected through in-depth interviews with community leaders and residents, field observations of environmental conditions, and visual documentation. Data were analyzed using content analysis based on social, economic, and physical environmental capital variables. The findings show a simple pattern: community organization is active, but trust among residents and confidence in social assistance systems are low. Economically, most households can meet basic needs but remain highly vulnerable due to unstable informal jobs and limited access to capital. Physically, housing and infrastructure conditions are still inadequate, although clean water access and environmental awareness are relatively good. These results highlight clear policy implications. Social assistance programs should use vulnerability-based criteria rather than relying mainly on housing appearance. Local governments need to expand access to microfinance and community economic empowerment to reduce dependence on insecure informal work. At the same time, upgrading basic infrastructure especially housing quality, drainage, and neighborhood roads should be prioritized. Strengthening participatory and transparent governance is also essential to rebuild public trust and improve the effectiveness of development programs in slum areas.
