Abstract

Abstrak: Pandemi Covid-19 telah membawa dampak cukup besar terhadap proses belajar mengajar di Indonesia. Kondisi pandemi mengharuskan sistem pembelajaran beralih dari metode tatap muka menjadi metode online. Berdasarkan kondisi di atas, artikel berikut membahas tentang salah satu teknik pengajaran yang digunakan dalam kelas daring speaking di Politeknik Negeri Padang (PNP), yaitu dengan menggunakan media poster digital. Artikel ini mendeskripsikan pengaruh penerapan media poster digital tersebut dalam pembelajaran daring terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa di PNP. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa PNP yang mengambil mata kuliah Speaking practice. Penelitian berbentuk deskriptif kuantitatif dan dilakukan dalam 4 tahap yaitu; perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan evaluasi. Dalam perencanaan, bahan ajar dirancang berdasarkan metode poster comment. Rubrik penilaian yang digunakan terdiri dari kelancaran (fluency), akurasi (accuracy), kejelasan (clarity), intonasi (intonation), volume, dan konten (content). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan siswa mengalami peningkatan yang baik untuk semua aspek penilaian. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengaruh dari penerapan media poster dalam proses pembelajaran memberikan dampak positif terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa dan juga menciptakan atmosfir belajar yang lebih interaktif selama masa pembelajaran daring.Abstract: Covid-19 Pandemic has created a big impact toward educational learning process in Indonesia. Due to that fact, this article discusses about one of the teaching techniques which is used in an online speaking class at Politeknik Negeri Padang (PNP).  This article describes the implementation effect of digital poster media toward the student’s speaking skill at PNP.  The participants of this research are PNP students who take speaking practice subject. The research is a descriptive quantitative study and its done through 4 steps; planning, implementing, observing and evaluating. In planning, the teaching materials are designed based on the poster comment method. The scoring rubric for the speaking assessment consists of fluency, accuracy, clarity, intonation, volume, and content. The results shows that students skill are well raised in all aspects. Thus, it can be concluded that implementation of poster as teaching media gives positive impact to the students’ speaking ability and it creates more interactive learning atmosphere during the online learning hours.

Abstract

Forum Pemberdayaan Masyarakat Kelurahan Limau Manis merupakan organisasi yang memayungi masyarakat yang berada dikawasan sekitar limau manis. Masyarakat ini terbilang aktif dan memiliki banyak potensi yang dapat dikembangkan. Namun dibalik potensi yang dimilikinya terdapat tantangan yang harus diatasi seperti kurangnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan untuk berkomunikasi secara formal, baik itu dalam berorasi didalam forum, presentasi maupun dalam mempromosikan rencana kegiatan ataupun dagangan mereka. Oleh karena itulah pada kesempatan kali ini, tim PkM dari prodi D4 Bahasa Inggris untuk Komunikasi Bisnis dan professional berkesempatan untuk memberikan pelatihan Communication Skills dengan berbasis teknologi yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan dan kemampuan masyarakat limau manis untuk berkomunikasi secara formal dan tepat guna. Adapun kemampuan yang menjadi target dari PkM kali ini adalah kemampuan warga untuk menggunakan teknologi dalam hal ini ms power point dalam mempresentasikan ataupun mempromosikan pariwisata daerahnya ataupun potensi usaha yang dimiliki daerahnya. Diharapkan dengan adanya pelatihan ini, pariwisata dan perekonomian masyarakat lokal menjadi meningkat.

Abstract

The business world requires its employees to have public speaking skills as one of communication strategies. The skills are used for negotiating, collaborating, and networking with national and international parties that leads to global development. As business world relies on Polytechnics’ graduates, lecturers must equip students with public speaking skills specifically for business communication. This study investigates students' perception on public speaking for business communication, which later on will be the based of developing learning materials. Questionnaires consisting of three aspects, namely needs, wants, and lack were given to 48 students enrolled in the Public Speaking of Business Communication course in English Department of Politeknik Negeri Padang. The data from the instruments were then analyzed descriptively. The results show that the students have not fully understood the concept of writing the business script, delivering the public speaking in business environment, and the relation with business communication. The conclusion generated from this research is vocational higher institutions like polytechnics must start to introduce the essential of public speaking in business environment by providing suitable materials.

Abstract

The community service which partner with Padang Basi district is aimed to support the promotion of the new historical tourism destination namely Lobang Jepang Padang Basi. By the cooperation between Padang Education and Culture official and Mapastra FIB Unand, this tourism place has been sucessfully reopenned for public. Beside having historical value, there is also a tunnel and five square bunkers in box shaped embedded under the ground. Looking at the potential of this tourism place, the community service team creates video of Lobang Jepang Padang Basi which can be beneficiary as an information and promotion media. Furthermore, the content of the video can be used as society education media that presents the historical struggle of Minangkabau people in fighting against Japanese colonialism. The activities of community service consist of three steps which are planinng, implementation, and evaluation. While, the video making consists of pre-production, production, and post-production. It is hoped that the customer service activities can give a positive contribution for Padang Basi district and can be usefull for many people.

Abstract

              This article is aimed to explain the variations of Minangkabau language in the lyrics of Minang’s Songs in the 1950-s and 1990-s. The analysis focuses on variations related to the retention and inovation form. The scope of the analysis are the variations of Minangkabau languange in all aspects whether the variations in form (fonology, morphology, and lexical) or variations in meaning (semantic). The method in collecting the data is non participant observational method with the note-taking technique. The method in analyzing the data is referential method. In order to find out languange retention and inovation, a top-down approach is also used in analyzing the data. The result of the analysis shows that there are variations of phonology, morphology, lexical, and semantic in Minang’s songs during 1950-s and 1990-s. The differences in both of the era are seen from the aspect of phonology and diftong. Another differences are found in variations of lexical and semantic. Minang’s songs in 1990-s have lots of lexical and semantic variations than the era of 1950-s. Based on the process of reconstruction, it is observed that Minang’s songs have some changes in the aspects of phonology, morphology, lexical and semantic. The songs in 1950-s tend to maintain the use of the words which have been heritaged from the relic form of Minangkabau language. On the other hand, the songs in 1990-s mostly have the innovation in internal and external aspects whether they are lexical or semantic innovation. Innovation tends to occur on cultural vocabularies, while the basic vocabularies tends to maintain their relic forms. Keywords: variations of language, phonology, morphology, lexical, semantic, retention,innovationABSTRAK Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan variasi bahasa Minangkabau pada lirik lagu Minang di era 1950-an dan 1990-an. Analisis difokuskan pada variasi yang memperlihatkan bentuk retensi dan inovasi. Ruang lingkup penganalisisan adalah variasi bahasa Minangkabau pada semua aspek, baik itu variasi bentuk (fonologi, morfologi, dan leksikal), ataupun variasi makna (semantik). Metode pengumpulan data adalah metode simak tidak libat cakap dengan teknik catat. Metode penganalisisan data adalah metode padan. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat variasi fonologis, morfologis, leksikal, dan semantis di dalam lagu minang era 50-an dan 90-an. Perbedaan dari kedua era ini dapat dilihat pada aspek fonologis dan diftong. Perbedaan lainnya ditemukan pada variasi leksikal dan semantis. Lagu Minang di era 90-an memiliki lebih banyak variasi leksikal dan semantis dibandingkan dengan lagu Minang era 50-an. Berdasarkan proses rekonstruksi, dapat diamati bahwa lagu Minang memiliki beberapa perubahan pada aspek fonologis, morfologis, leksikal, dan semantis. Lagu-lagu di era 50-an cenderung mempertahankan penggunaan kata-kata yang merupakan warisan dari bentuk relik bahasa Minangkabau. Di sisi lain, lagu-lagu era 90-an kebanyakan mengalami inovasi pada aspek internal dan eksternal, baik itu inovasi leksikal maupun semantis. Inovasi tersebut cenderung terjadi pada kosakata budaya, sedangkan untuk kosakata dasar cenderung mempertahankan bentuk reliknya.  Kata kunci: variasi bahasa, fonologi, morfologi, leksikal, semantik, retensi, inovasi

Abstract

The Effects of I-bLA on Resolving the Issues of the EFL Students’ Writing Skills and Content Originality. Objective: This research aims at testing the effects of Inquiry-based Learning Approach (I-bLA) on Resolving the Issues of the EFL Students’ Writing Skills and Content Originality. Method: The one Group Pre-test and Post-test experimental research design was used to test the effects of I-bLA. Findings: The result of paired sample test explicates that the sig. 2-tailed value is 0.000 designating a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. Furthermore, the I-bLA significantly decreases the similarity index by 80% meaning that the content originality of the students’ essays does not match against the original sources. Conclusion: the use of I-bLA can significantly resolve the issues of the EFL students’ Writing Skills and Content Originality. Keywords: I-bLA, writing skills, content originality DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v11.i2.202106
