Abstract

This study aims to obtain the average compressive strength of cylindrical column concrete specimens reinforced with an e-glass fiber laminate composite wrap based on variations in the number of wraps. In addition, in this study, the compressive strength and damage patterns will be analyzed to obtain the performance of the sheath in the concrete structure. The test specimens were molded according to the ASTM C39 standard with a diameter of 50 mm and a length of 150 mm. The process of applying laminated composite wrap to concrete specimens is carried out using the vacuum bagging method. The compressive strength test on the specimen is carried out by providing an axial load on the specimen until it failures. The results obtained are that the compressive strength of the specimen has increased significantly due to the provision of e-glass fiber wrap. A significant increase in the compressive strength of concrete specimens occurred in 3 layers of e-glass fiber wrap which reached more than 60%. Furthermore, the ability of the e-glass fiber wrap in protecting the cylindrical concrete structure due to the applied load also experienced an increase in performance in the 2 and 3 layers of the e-glass fiber wrap.

Abstract

The engineering of composite mortar materials presents substantial economic advantages and significant potential for advancement in the construction sector, particularly through applications such as plant vases, coral transplant media, seawalls, wall decorations, bricks, paving blocks, and acoustic panels. The use of fly ash, an industrial byproduct, can facilitate the production of high-quality materials in alignment with the government’s circular economy initiatives. This study employs a mortar mixture with a 1:1 ratio combined with varying compositions of fly ash at 10%, 30%, and 50%, utilizing an experimental testing approach that includes a static load compression test. The purpose of the compression testing apparatus is to ascertain the compressive strength characteristics and the mass percentage of the materials. The findings revealed that the maximum compressive strength achieved with 10% fly ash was 34.07 MPa; however, variations in the fly ash composition led to a reduction in the material's toughness properties by 10.42% and 16.53%, respectively. The recorded compressive strength values comply with the quality standards set forth in SNI 03-0691-1996 for paving blocks classified as type B quality. Furthermore, the variations in composition positively influenced the mass percentage, with considerable increases of 66.67% and 45.33% corresponding to the differing fly ash compositions.

Abstract

Three-dimensional (3D) imaging technology for computer-assisted construction planning of a product through a simulation process is now having a very positive impact in helping to improve the construction results of a product. The honeycomb shape has better strength in accepting constant and stable loads and has a lighter structure. Aluminum honeycomb using the sandwich construction method was analyzed by simulation using Ansys software in this research based on 3 variations in hexagonal cell geometry due to differences in the applied static load. The influence of the hexagonal honeycomb cell geometry shows a contribution to the deformation capability of the material at varying load angles, namely an increase of 100% at a load angle of 60° and a higher spike of around 130% for a load angle of 90°. Variations in the hexagonal honeycomb geometry still have an impact on increasing material capability. of 128% in the 6 mm hexagonal cell model with a load angle of 90°. The geometric intensity of the honeycomb hexagonal cell produces expansion values respectively in material deformation and equivalent stress based on the load angle of 15% and 35%.

Abstract

The present study examines the effect of diameter bearing mounts to the stress concentration factor. Three commercial truck gearbox casings were selected for redrawing using CATIA. The gearbox casing is then converted into a FEM model in ANSYS. It has a bore ratio (the ratio of the largest diameter to the smallest diameter of the bearing diameter) of 1.8, 1.5 and 1.4. By applying pressure to the upper gearbox casing for static and dynamic conditions, the total deformation response and equivalent stress are investigated. The deformations and equivalent stresses on the three models of gearbox were determined and discussed. It was found that the bore ratio of the gearbox showed significant differences in results on deformations and equivalent stress. Based on the equivalent stress data of view A, which is the side of the gearbox casing connected to the engine, the stress concentration factor results are consistent with the bore ratio.

Abstract

Researchers carried out experimental testing on the MC Blue material using the charphy impact method. The MC Blue specimen was developed in a local workshop in Medan City, North Sumatra for three variations of testing temperature, namely normal temperature 31 oC, temperature 50 oC, and temperature 100 oC. The aim of this research is to determine the impact energy and impact strength values of MC Blue material due to dynamic loads. The results of test data analysis show the mechanical characteristics of impact resistance with the highest value occurring in specimens at a temperature of 100 oC of 56.696 Joules at an average impact energy and an average impact strength value of 0.438 J/mm2. Meanwhile, the lowest Charphy impact resistance was shown by the normal temperature model of 31 oC of 17.975 Joules for the average impact energy value and the average impact strength value was 0.139 J/mm2. Temperature variations have a concrete impact, there is an increase in impact energy on the MC Blue material with a linear gradient equation y = 19.361x + 2.1467 and the impact strength value experiences a relevant increase due to temperature differences with a linear gradient equation y = 0.1495x + 0.0163.

Abstract

The application of science and technology to mortar composite materials creates increasingly better economic value advantages and its development potential has a positive impact on the field of building construction with the implementation of household appliances, coral transplant media, sea walls, roads, curbs, paving blocks, reclaimed land, plant vases, wall ornaments, and acoustic panels. Fly ash material as industrial waste has been categorized as non-B3 waste by the government so that the use of Fly Ash can be optimized to maintain environmental sustainability and become a catalyst for driving the community's economy. This study with a 1: 2 ratio mortar material added with fly ash material to analyze the mechanical properties of the material using experimental testing methods on 3 variations of fly ash material compositions in sequence 10%, 30%, and 50% aims to obtain compressive strength characteristics and mass percentage. The test results provide the highest compressive strength value data on 10% fly ash material of 28.10 MPa while other composition variations tend to show a decrease in the ability of material resilience properties in sequence of 9.36% and 20.32%. The mechanical properties of compressive strength meet the quality requirements of SNI 03-0691-1996 for implementation on paving blocks of type B quality and SNI 2442-2020 for application on concrete curbs. The influence of mass composition provides a positive contribution creating an increasing trend towards the mass percentage where the response of fly ash variations is respectively 20.74% and 14.33%.

Abstract

The increasing energy demand and the serious impact of fossil fuel use on the energy crisis and climate change encourage the development of more sustainable renewable energy sources. This study aims to design a wave conversion device as an alternative energy source for the future. A quantitative approach was used through the distribution of structured questionnaires to 35 respondents, with 29 data points declared valid for analysis. The study focused on user attitudes, knowledge, and behavior towards the device design. Preference data were processed using morphology tables and decision matrices to obtain the most appropriate design. The results showed that respondents tended to choose a pendulum operating system, a horizontal device position, and an aluminum frame, with an expected price below IDR 10 million and preventive maintenance every six months. Based on the evaluation, Concept A was selected as the best design because it was considered technically superior, easy to maintain, cost-effective, and suitable for field conditions. This design was then visualized using CAD software to support the prototyping process. This study shows that the design of a marine energy device that considers user needs and preferences can produce a more realistic, affordable solution and has the potential to strengthen the implementation of marine energy in the transition agenda towards sustainable clean energy. The resulting design offers the development of marine energy technology that is applicable and relevant to the needs of coastal communities.
