Abstract

The findings demonstrated that students who were taught using an intensive reading approach were more adept at reading and comprehending the text. The result of the t-score is 17.34, the degree of significance at 0.05 and the t-table with degrees of freedom (df) of 22 were 2.074. Considering that the t-score exceeds the t-table, the alternative hypothesis in this research was allowed based on the data analysis (17.34 > 2.074). The test's accuracy was determined by the data analysis. The results showed that the students' reading comprehension had been significantly affected by learning through an intensive reading approach. As a result, students reading comprehension of narrative texts is enhanced by the intensive reading approach.

Abstract

The use of instructional media has become essential in addressing challenges faced by teachers in delivering effective lessons. This research, therefore, focuses on the development of video as an instructional media for teaching English listening skills to seventh-grade students. The research identifies a gap in traditional teaching methods, where English teachers primarily rely on textbooks, resulting in passive student engagement and limited focus on listening skills. The lack of appropriate instructional media makes the problem more complicated, despite available resources like language laboratories, LCD screens, and sound systems. To bridge this gap, the researcher developed video created with AVS Video Editor to stimulate students' interest and improve listening skills. Hence, the research follows the research and development (R&D) approach proposed by Sugiyono (2010). The development procedure from Sugiyono, then is adapted to: 1) analysis, 2) data collection, 3) product creation, 4) validation of the product, and 5) product revision. The findings highlight the effectiveness of the developed video media in capturing students' attention and aligning with curriculum objectives. The validation process leads to constructive feedback, prompting revisions such as adding illustrations, adjusting audio volume, and improving pronunciation. The final product is in the form of videos containing some listening materials under the topic of Introduction, describing people, and giving direction. It also considers feedback from the experts and the teacher in order to give solutions to the teaching problems and provide valuable media for enhancing English listening skills in seventh-grade students in MTs Al Karimi.

The objective of this research is to assess the effectiveness of the TOEFL course offered in this study program as a mandatory advanced course, which can be taken in either the sixth or eighth semester. This study presents a CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation methodology specifically designed to meet the requirements and unique features of the TOEFL course at Universitas Qomaruddin. This research is needed to investigate (1) What are the outcomes of evaluating TOEFL courses using the CIPP approach? (2) What are the key enhancements that need to be implemented in order to maximize the program's beneficial influence, as perceived by students and lecturers, in terms of program outcomes? By employing this quantitative and qualitative methodologies, our aim is to provide a comprehensive assessment framework capable of addressing several research inquiries. The research involved a total of 42 students, a lecturer, and a head of the study program. The research data utilized encompass surveys, interviews, and documentation. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data from interviews and documentation were examined thematically to complement and explain the numerical findings. ubsequently, the data is scrutinized and inferences are made. The results show TOEFL course was generally executed well proven by effectiveness from context evaluation (82%), input evaluation (83%), process evaluation (86%), and product evaluation (82%). These findings indicate that the TOEFL course meets its objectives effectively. However, continuous improvements in infrastructure, resources, and engagement strategies are recommended to enhance the program's overall quality and long-term impact. This study provides practical insights for curriculum designers and educators seeking to evaluate and optimize similar programs.
