This research is needed to investigate (1) What are the outcomes of evaluating TOEFL courses using the CIPP approach? (2) What are the key enhancements that need to be implemented in order to maximize the program's beneficial influence, as perceived by students and lecturers, in terms of program outcomes? By employing this quantitative and qualitative methodologies, our aim is to provide a comprehensive assessment framework capable of addressing several research inquiries. The research involved a total of 42 students, a lecturer, and a head of the study program. The research data utilized encompass surveys, interviews, and documentation. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative data from interviews and documentation were examined thematically to complement and explain the numerical findings. ubsequently, the data is scrutinized and inferences are made. The results show TOEFL course was generally executed well proven by effectiveness from context evaluation (82%), input evaluation (83%), process evaluation (86%), and product evaluation (82%). These findings indicate that the TOEFL course meets its objectives effectively. However, continuous improvements in infrastructure, resources, and engagement strategies are recommended to enhance the program's overall quality and long-term impact. Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the linguistic landscape (LL) of Malindo Swimming Pool, a multilingual public space in Gresik, to explore patterns and representation of language use and their cultural implications. Using qualitative methods, including visual documentation and content analysis, the research identifies the functions and representations of languages in signage. Findings reveal that Bahasa Indonesia dominates practical signs, ensuring clarity for local visitors, while English is strategically employed for branding and inclusivity, appealing to a broader audience. Notably, the absence of regional languages like Javanese highlights a prioritization of national and international communication. Semiotic analysis uncovers the denotative and connotative meanings in the LL, reflecting modernity, cultural identity, and social dynamics. This research contributes to understanding multilingualism in public recreational spaces and provides insights for managing linguistic diversity in tourism settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies employed by an English teacher in teaching speaking to eleventh-grade students at SMK Assa’adah Bungah Gresik and to describe the students’ responses toward those strategies. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through classroom observations, student questionnaires, and documentation. The findings reveal that the teacher applied various strategies such as group discussions, storytelling, drilling, simulations, oral presentations, and communication games to support speaking skill development. Among these, group discussions and communication games were the most frequently used, while simulations and storytelling appeared less often. Students responded positively to interactive activities that encouraged participation and made learning enjoyable. They reported improved confidence, fluency, and motivation when engaged in group-based or game-like speaking tasks. Documentation, including photos and lesson materials, confirmed the application of these strategies in classroom practice. The study concludes that communicative and student-centered approaches are effective in enhancing students’ speaking abilities when applied consistently and contextually. These results suggest that incorporating a variety of engaging speaking strategies can support English language development in vocational high school.

Abstract

Writing is one of the essential things that all students must do. In writing, the delivery of ideas needs to be arranged so that the writing is easy to understand and practical. One type of writing is when students write a research article for their final project or thesis. Abstract writing is one of the crucial sections of a final project or thesis because the abstract contains an outline of the research they did. In writing abstracts, metadiscourse markers were possible because they aimed to organize a sequence of ideas, attract readers' attention, and indicate how important the information was presented. This study investigated one hundred and twenty abstract theses from six study programs at Universitas Qomaruddin. They are English Department (PBI), Mathematic Department (PMT), Industrial Engineering (TI), Electrical Engineering (TE), Mechanical Engineering (MS), and Informatics Engineering (IF). Hyland (2005) formulated the interactional metadiscourse investigated as the primary reference. The results showed that all six study programs applied interactional metadiscourse markers when writing their abstracts. Moredespite different styles and preferences in applying markers. In terms of usage of overall metadiscourse, PBI applied the most markers, while MS applied the least. In terms of variants of metadiscourse, PBI also applied the most, and MS applied the least varied markers. The reasons behind more or less usage of interactional markers were influenced by how familiar they were with using English, as it also revealed their writing style. PBI is one example that their exposure to English pretty helps them vary the way they arrange their ideas in their abstracts. However, other surprising groups were PMT and IF groups, which frequently showed the uses of metadiscourse markers. It also strengthened that English was not only dominated by English department students. It was more on how this language was known to many students at Universitas Qomaruddin. It is hoped that English as one of the international languages is no longer a big problem for students, especially in the case of abstract writing.
