Abstract

This study aims to analyze and describe the ability to construct proofs of perspective teacher mathematics students in basic geometrical lectures on the concepts of alignment, triangles, and concordance of two triangles. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method involving 35 prospective mathematics students at the Universitas PGRI Semarang. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method involving 35 students. The results of this study show that: (1) 28% of students sketched diagrams and used geometric labels appropriately on the constructed evidence; (2) 28.57% of students have the correct initial step of proof; (3) 28.57% of students can determine the exact conjecture that leads to the correct proof; (4) 25.71% of students are correct in compiling proof arguments by the correct postulate and theorem; (5) 25.71% of the thought flow process used by coherent students leads to valid evidence; and (6) 22.86% of students mastered theorems and concepts used in compiling constructing proof.

Abstract

Mathematics anxiety of high school students in learning mathematics in the network has a lot of influence on the ongoing learning until the results obtained. The influence of math anxiety has an effect ranging from understanding mathematical concepts to student learning outcomes. This study aims to determine the level of anxiety experienced by students in undergoing online learning and determine the bias between respondents and statements on the questionnaire. This research was conducted through a combined approach of quantitative and qualitative using a survey method. The subjects of this research are students with a range of secondary education who are undergoing online learning and totaling 225 students with 155 female students and 70 male students. Data was collected through the distribution of an instrument in a questionnaire regarding students' mathematics anxiety. Furthermore, the data obtained is measured through the Rasch model and processed with the help of the Winsteps application. After the data was obtained, interviews were conducted to determine the causes that support students' mathematical anxiety in the online learning system. In this study, the results obtained that anxiety tends to be high in the implementation of learning in the network. There are three categories: high anxiety 17.33%, moderate anxiety 73.78 %, and low anxiety 8.89%. This study also found various triggers for the presence of mathematical anxiety that can be used to understand the condition of students. Through DIF (Differential Item Functioning), some differences/biases can be used as references for further research.

Abstract

Online learning for students requires high self-regulated learning to maximize problem-solving skills, especially in fractional material. However, elementary school students have not widely seen self-regulated learning and problem-solving abilities. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the relationship between self-regulated learning and problem-solving skills, especially on fractions in online learning in fifth-grade elementary school. This research is included in a quantitative study that uses a sample of fifth-grade students in an elementary school in Depok City. A sample of 122 students (N = 67 female, N = 55 male) was obtained using a non-probability sampling technique. Data collection techniques were carried out through the distribution of a self-regulated learning questionnaire with as many as 29 statements and a problem-solving ability test instrument with as many as eight questions. The data obtained were measured and analyzed using Rasch modeling and assisted by Winsteps software version 4.4.2. Furthermore, the correlation and Effect Size tests were carried out to determine the relationship and influence between variables. The results showed a significant and interrelated relationship between self-regulated learning and problem-solving ability. In other words, the higher the quality of independence in students, the higher the quality of problem-solving abilities they have, and vice versa. That way, it can encourage students to maximize self-regulated learning when learning online to help improve problem-solving skills in learning.

Abstract

The ability to solve problems involving fractions is a fundamental aspect of mathematics education. This study explores how Pre-Service Primary School Teachers approach problem-solving in fractional computations. A workbook is designed to support pre-service primary school teachers ' computational thinking in fraction-context challenges. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method encompassing interviews, study documentation, and observation to assess fraction computation problem-solving abilities. Twenty-seven participants were involved in this study. They were first-year students enrolled in the Primary School Teacher Education Department at one of the private universities in Jakarta, Indonesia. The findings reveal a notable outcome in pre-service primary school teachers ' understanding of fraction computation problem-solving, marked by recognizable strategies in their problem-solving approach. This research suggests that designing a series of workbooks containing various strategies in computational fractions and building a strong fractional number sense can help pre-service teachers reduce misconceptions and better understand fraction operations. These findings offer guidance for mathematics teacher education on how to effectively teach and embed the concept of fraction calculations to their future students so that they can only teach procedurally if they understand the meaning of fraction operations.
