Abstract

This study aimed to create a literate and inclusive school environment by providing literacy and anti-bullying training to elementary school teachers and principals. The research was conducted in 20 primary schools in Banyuwangi Regency, Indonesia over three years from 2021 to 2023. In the first year, the focus was on a balanced literacy program that followed key stages: 1) developing reading and writing habits, 2) searching, browsing, processing, and understanding information, 3) analyzing, responding, and using written texts, and 4) developing understanding and potential to participate in the social environment. The second year focused on an anti-bullying program that targeted indicators like setting consistent rules, creating inclusive study groups, and identifying potential behavior problems. By the third year, 75% of teachers were able to create literacy-rich and inclusive classroom environments, apply consistent rules, and conduct ongoing socialization with other teachers. The results showed improvements in teachers' abilities to implement balanced literacy activities, use reading comprehension methods, create student-authored books, and apply anti-bullying strategies. The study concludes that the integrated literacy and anti-bullying program was successful in preparing students with strong literacy skills while also creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. Overall, this research demonstrates how a holistic approach targeting both literacy development and anti-bullying measures can lead to positive outcomes for elementary school students.

The purpose of this study is to re-examine what is meant by character education, how to apply character education in several elementary schools, including methods and results, and to try to reformulate the appropriate character education model in the era of industrial revolution 4.0. The methodology of the study carried out in this paper is an analysis of studies from various sources of theory about character education and industrial revolution 4.0, and an analysis of studies of several character education practices carried out in several elementary schools / madrasah ibtidaiyyah (MI) in Banyuwangi region as well in the Jogjakarta Region. The results of the research from both the theoretical and of the practical analysis in this paper is that the application of character educationstill does not produce the results as expected. However, so far, there have been many elementary school level that have implemented character education according to the abilities of educator resources. Educator resources are the main determinant in achieving or not the goal of character education for each school that applies it, especially in terms of determining programs as a form of character education. It was also found that the results of character education applied to each school also varied, depending on how the educator's resources interpreted the objectives of the character education program in their respective schools.

Abstract

This article examines how minority students form and assert their identities in school's public spaces, particularly in interactions with majority groups. This qualitative research uses interviews and documentation studies, focusing on several minority students in schools in East Java. The research results show that the identity of minority students is formed through religious expressions, which include verbal expressions, attitudes of prayer, and greetings on holidays. These three expressions function as a means for minorities to assert their identity among the majority. This research concludes that identity formation depends on significant religious expressions and small actions carried out repeatedly. Therefore, schools must provide equitable social spaces for minority students, with policies supporting equality and respecting differences in school social life. The research results show that the understanding of inclusive education is still limited to involving children with special needs in regular school learning classes. Significant structural and cultural obstacles exist to its implementation, and inclusive education needs to be redefined to make it more holistic. This research produced recommendations, including improving infrastructure, training teaching staff, and developing policies that support inclusive education. The findings from this research illustrate the importance of a broader understanding of inclusive education and the need for strategic action to ensure equal access to education for all children.

Abstract

Water scarcity is an escalating concern, especially in rural and indigenous regions where ecological vulnerability intersects with institutional weakness. This study investigates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be integrated with the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach (SLA) to enhance water governance among the Osing indigenous people in Banyuwangi, East Java. Using a mixed-method, multi-site design—including interviews, focus groups, and participatory observations—the research explores how local knowledge, social capital, and institutional structures shape community responses to AI-based interventions. Findings show that while AI offers predictive potential, its success hinges on epistemic justice and cultural contextualization. Villages with strong social and financial assets, such as Olehsari, exhibit greater readiness for AI integration, whereas others face barriers including low digital literacy, weak infrastructure, and limited trust. A hybrid model of community-based AI is proposed, combining algorithmic tools with indigenous ecological indicators and participatory design processes. The study contributes to the growing discourse on inclusive technology by demonstrating that sustainable water governance requires co-produced knowledge systems, where local and scientific epistemologies interact symmetrically. The integration of AI and SLA offers a replicable framework to address water challenges in indigenous communities without marginalizing their knowledge and identity.
