Abstract

This study aims to examine and discuss the factors that influence customer switching behavior to other products and/or institutions with respondents consisting of customers of Islamic banks in the Surakarta area using the convenience sampling technique. The results are: (1) there is a positive effect between service quality on customer satisfaction and customer trust, between religiosity on customer trust, between customer experience on customer satisfaction and customer trust; (2) customer satisfaction has a negative effect on customer switching behavior; (3) a mediating role of customer satisfaction on the effect of service quality and customer switching behavior. Whatever the outcome, managers and/or employees must periodically expand their efforts to achieve customer satisfaction and customer trust through increased service quality excellence, sharia value conformity, and the excellent customer experience to anticipate possible customer switching behavior. The theoretical and practical implications, as well as the limitations of research, will be later discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the impact of growth in key industrial sectors on labor absorption in Indonesia, using time series data from 2011Q1 to 2023Q4 and employing the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. This method captures the long-term and short-term relationships between industrial growth and labor absorption. The findings reveal that, in the long term, the oil and gas processing industry, non-oil and gas manufacturing, trade, and finance sectors significantly influence labor absorption. In contrast, the agriculture and mining sectors do not show a significant long-term effect. However, in the short term, all variables display varying impacts. Interestingly, the agriculture and mining sectors exhibit significant short-term effects despite their lack of long-term influence. This study contributes to the unemployment literature and suggests that the Indonesian government should focus on industrialisation to reduce unemployment. Industrialisation can stimulate job creation and support sustainable economic growth. These findings highlight the need for well-targeted policy strategies to optimise the industrial sector's role in reducing unemployment and enhancing economic stability.JEL: B22, E24, L60.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase environmental awareness and farming skills of elementary school students through the use of used plastic bottles as a growing medium for spring onions (Allium fistulosum L.). The program was implemented at SDN Gumuksari 01, Gumuksari Village, Kalisat District, Jember Regency, in August 2025, involving a total of 62 students in grades 4–6, but only ±40 students attended and participated in the entire series of practical activities. The method used was a participatory approach through the stages of preparation, implementation, evaluation, and follow-up. Evaluation was carried out through structured observations with a simple rubric (bottle cutting skills, number of aeration holes, depth of planting media) as well as reflection of student attitudes. The results of the activity showed active participation of students who attended with the output of ±40 units of planting media, filling 12 previously empty school pots, and positive changes in attitudes towards plastic waste management. Short-term impacts include increased technical farming skills, awareness of protecting the environment, and student motivation to plant at home. This activity provides novel value in integrating environmental education, waste management, and school-based food security with locally adapted green onions. Continued mentoring and integration of similar activities into the school curriculum or extracurricular activities are recommended.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examined the influence of spiritual leadership (SL), workplace spirituality (WS), and Islamic work ethics (IWE) on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) among employees. It also investigates whether there are generational differences in the effects between Generation Y and Generation Z in Surabaya.Methodology – This research employed a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) and Partial Least Squares Multi-Group Analysis (PLS-MGA) with the aid of SmartPLS 4. The study involved 110 employees from Generation Y and Generation Z who lived and worked in Surabaya.Findings – The results show that spiritual leadership, workplace spirituality, and IWE have a positive and significant impact on OCB. However, the MGA revealed no significant differences between Generation Y and Z in terms of how these variables affected OCB. These findings support Social Exchange Theory, suggesting that when employees feel valued and spiritually supported, they tend to reciprocate with positive behaviors such as OCB. Despite the assumptions in generational theory, both generations respond similarly to spiritually rooted leadership and ethical Islamic values.Implications – This study offers practical insights for organizations with multigenerational workforces to adopt spiritual leadership, foster spiritual workplaces, and apply Islamic work ethics to consistently enhance OCB across generations.Originality – By incorporating multi-group analysis, this research adds to the limited literature on spirituality and ethics in shaping OCB, particularly among Generation Y and Z Muslim employees in a modern workplace setting.

Abstract

The halal industry has become an integral part of the global economic structure, especially in countries with a majority Muslim population. In Indonesia, significant potential is evident, particularly in the halal food business, both domestically and internationally. However, to foster it, a sustainable halal supply chain requires confirmation or assurance of product halalness. However, this also poses challenges related to awareness and perceptions of halal among business operators, making finding solutions crucial. This research employs a qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and data collection documentation. Research findings indicate that business operators' perceptions and awareness are still limited; thus, there is no impetus to obtain halal certification. Moreover, the results show that business operators face barriers related to halal certification, particularly concerning costs and insufficient socialisation received, leading to a lack of awareness of the necessity of halal certification. However, for already certified halal business operators, such accreditation is considered a good product brand image, supports business sustainability, and opens up new opportunities. Practitioners and academics also concur, identifying costs and socialisation as field constraints. This research focuses on overcoming cost and administrative difficulties, reviewing legislation, and implementing socialization efforts that should reach all business operators. The government and halal centers expect this research to serve as a reference to achieve the future goals of the halal industry in Indonesia. Abstract
