Abstract

Background: The circular economy aims to establish a sustainable system by maximizing and optimizing resources and capabilities, enabling businesses to provide greater value to consumers. Consumers’ perceptions of environmental values, along with their environmental concerns and knowledge, play a crucial role in encouraging efficient and sustainable consumption. Additionally, individuals with strong religious beliefs often exhibit pro-environmental attitudes, which may influence their intentions and behaviors in purchasing environmentally friendly products. Purpose: This study examines the role of eco-friendly factors and Islamic religiosity in shaping sustainable consumption behavior among Muslim women in Indonesia who purchase eco-friendly cosmetic products. Methods: This study employed a conclusive, descriptive, and cross-sectional research design. A total of 218 respondents were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaire distribution and analyzed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) structural equation modeling. Findings: The results indicate that eco-friendly factors—including environmental concern, environmental awareness, environmental knowledge, and environmental values—positively and significantly influence sustainable consumption. However, contrary to expectations, religiosity does not significantly impact sustainable consumption and does not moderate the relationship between sustainable consumption and behavioral intention. Additionally, sustainable consumption positively influences behavioral intention. Conclusion: These results highlight the crucial of environmental awareness and values in fostering sustainable consumption behavior. However, religiosity alone may not be a determining factor in consumers' eco-friendly purchasing decisions. Research implication: This study provides valuable insights for policymakers, businesses, and marketers to develop more effective sustainability campaigns and interventions by focusing on enhancing environmental awareness and values rather than relying solely on religious motivation to promote sustainable consumption.

Abstract

Purpose - This literature review aims to systematically analyze and synthesize existing research on the impact of Islamic banking on financial inclusion in developing countries, with a specific focus on four Southeast Asian nations: Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, and Singapore. The study seeks to identify key patterns, challenges, and opportunities in the relationship between Islamic banking development and financial inclusion outcomes. Method - The review employs a systematic literature review methodology, analyzing peer-reviewed articles, policy documents, and institutional reports published between 2013 and 2024. The analysis focuses on four key dimensions: regulatory frameworks, technological innovation, market penetration, and socio-economic impact. A structured content analysis approach was used to synthesize findings from 87 selected publications. Result - The review reveals a significant positive correlation between Islamic banking development and financial inclusion metrics across the studied countries. Malaysia demonstrates the most advanced integration of Islamic banking with financial inclusion initiatives, supported by comprehensive regulatory frameworks and technological innovation. Indonesia shows rapid growth potential but faces infrastructure challenges, while Brunei Darussalam exhibits high market penetration within a smaller market. Singapore's unique position as a regional Islamic finance hub contributes differently to financial inclusion through sophisticated product development and cross-border services. Implication - The findings suggest that successful integration of Islamic banking with financial inclusion objectives requires a holistic approach encompassing regulatory reform, technological advancement, and market development strategies. The review identifies best practices and lessons learned that can inform policy development in other developing nations seeking to leverage Islamic banking for financial inclusion. Originality - This review provides the first comprehensive cross-country analysis of Islamic banking's impact on financial inclusion in Southeast Asia, synthesizing recent empirical evidence and theoretical frameworks. It contributes to the literature by identifying patterns of successful implementation and challenges across different market contexts, offering valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners.

Abstract

The rapid rise of Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services has transformed consumer behavior, especially among Generation Z as digital natives. This study investigates the influence of financial literacy, risk perception, interest rate perception, social environment, and religiosity on BNPL usage among Generation Z investors in Jakarta. Using a sample of 200 respondents aged 17 and above, data were analyzed with structural equation modeling–partial least squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that financial literacy, risk perception, and education level do not significantly affect BNPL usage, as financially literate and risk-averse students tend to avoid BNPL altogether. In contrast, interest rate perception significantly influences BNPL usage, where respondents view flexible installment terms as acceptable despite higher costs. These findings extend the Theory of Planned Behavior in the context of fintech adoption and provide insights for fintech firms and regulators to design transparent products, strengthen consumer protection, and enhance financial literacy for responsible BNPL usage.
