Abstract

This research discusses energy transformation through downstream biofuel energy to the national economy in terms of how biofuels reduce the use of fossil energy and encourage national economic growth. Biofuel energy transformation is proposed because of its increasing popularity amid increasingly high climate change and world oil prices have increased due to world political uncertainty. The choice of biofuel energy transformation is the right way to find out how significant the energy transformation from fossil energy to biofuel energy has impact on energy availability and the national economy. This study analyzes Indonesia's energy transformation through downstream biofuel energy using the concept of energy transformation in looking at the integration of biofuel energy into the national economy. This study uses an integrative review method of presenting non-experimental data, a systematic approach, and uses a detailed search strategy in an effort to identify relevant evidence for biofuel energy and its impact on the Indonesian national economy. The energy transformation policy through downstream biofuel energy has not had a positive impact on Indonesia's national economy even though biofuel energy is cheap and environmentally friendly. The energy needs of the Indonesian people are very large and have not been able to be supported by biofuel energy with the same raw materials as the people's staple food. Meanwhile, food waste, such as tofu production waste and sugar production waste, is only able to sustain the energy needs of small-scale communities. The reallocation of fossil energy subsidies to biofuel energy has not yet contributed to the national economy.

Abstract

This research aims to provide the blueprint of how South Korea both state actors and nonstate actors involved in South Korea’s Gastrodiplomacy. This research will provide the details of South Korea government implementation of “Kimchi Diplomacy” in the world and the increases of South Korean Kimchi export. This research uses literature studies to collect all the information and data needed to answer Gastrodiplomacy impact on the South Korean economy. Gastrodiplomacy is a form of South Korea's soft power in promoting culinary culture, especially Kimchi. South Korea's strategy in introducing the world to their Kimchi commodity tends to be carried by people to people. In addition, Gastrodiplomacy is used by the South Korean government as a national branding to the world. This strategy has succeeded in improving the country's economic situation, especially the increase in exports of South Korean Kimchi commodities. South Korea's Kimchi exports have increased since 2011 and reached a tipping point to 144.51 million USD in 2020. This study indicates a relationship between South Korea's Gastrodiplomacy strategy and the improvement of the Kimchi commodity economy.

Abstract

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has drawn global attention for decades, involving not only states but also international organizations, individuals, and non-governmental organizations. Media coverage often simplifies the conflict as Israeli Defense Force (IDF) vs Hamas or Jews vs Arabs. However, Afro-Palestinian communities face layered oppression that goes underreported—experiencing marginalization both as Black people and as Palestinians. This study aims to analyze how the Black Women Radicals (BWR) movement advocates for Afro-Palestinians through a transnational and intersectional feminist lens. Using an integrative review method, this study systematically examines data such as advocacy manifestos, organizational campaigns, and scholarly articles. Findings show that BWR’s initiatives highlight the intersection of race, nationality, and gender within systems of oppression. Kimberlé Crenshaw’s theory of intersectionality becomes crucial in interpreting BWR’s advocacy as a response to Afro-Palestinians’ structural invisibility and multidimensional subjugation.

Abstract

This study examines the strategic use of sushi as a central instrument in Japan’s gastrodiplomacy, aiming to enhance public diplomacy, soft power, and national identity on the global stage. Utilizing a qualitative case study design combined with media discourse analysis, the research maps the engagement of state and non-state actors—including government agencies, renowned chefs, international restaurants, and digital media platforms—in shaping cultural narratives through culinary diplomacy. Data are drawn from policy documents, academic literature, global media sources, and digital trend analysis via Brand24. The findings reveal that sushi serves not only as a gastronomic product but also as a cultural symbol representing Japanese values, including aesthetics, omotenashi (hospitality), health consciousness, and craftsmanship. Cross-sector collaborations have fostered a dynamic diplomatic ecosystem that advances Japan’s cultural positioning while stimulating trade and tourism. Challenges persist in managing authenticity and commercialization, particularly in markets where sushi has undergone significant local adaptation. Compared to gastrodiplomacy campaigns such as Thai Select and Kimchi Diplomacy, Japan’s approach is marked by strategic flexibility and a commitment to preserving culinary heritage. This study enriches scholarly discourse by providing a comprehensive conceptual mapping of sushi diplomacy as a geopolitical tool and cultural branding strategy, offering practical insights for policymakers and cultural practitioners seeking to leverage cuisine in international engagement. Keywords: sushi diplomacy, gastrodiplomacy, soft power, public diplomacy, cultural identity

Abstract

The Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA) is the important actor in advocating for temporary work rightsfor refugees amid the complexity of Australian asylum policy. This study analyses RCOA’s advocacystrategies in responding to asylum policy restrictions, particularly through the constructivist approachthat emphasises the importance of discourse and social norms. Using the qualitative methods throughthe document analysis of policy papers, public campaigns, and submissions to the government, this study adopts the advocacy strategy framework to examine how the RCOA operates in a policy environment shaped by the “balancing act” between the border security and humanitarian obligations. The research findings show that RCOA utilises the evidence-based lobbying, coalition building, and public engagementto drive policy change and reframe the narration around the refugees. Despite facing structural andpolitical barriers, RCOA’s advocacy contributes to increased public awareness and opens up space formore inclusive policy discussions. This study highlights the important role of civil society in advocating for refugee rights through approaches based on the dignity, social inclusion, and economic contribution.
