Abstract

Some previous studies tried to improve students' understanding of the concept of the composition of functions. However, only some research results still examine efforts to increase student understanding of the concept taught online, especially by utilizing the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop learning model. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the level of effectiveness of the application of the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model in increasing students' understanding of composition function material taught online. To answer the purpose of the study, the authors compared the model with the Flipped Learning model and the conventional learning model. The quantitative method with a pretest-posttest control group design model is employed in the present study by engaging 90 Indonesian senior high school students. This study finds that the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model is significantly better at improving students' understanding of the composition of function concepts than conventional models. However, the same result is not found if compared with the Flipped Learning model. Though the average score of the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model is better than the Flipped Learning model, the difference is not significant. This study also describes the related syntax of the STEAM-integrated Flip Flop model that high school math teachers can use to teach better composition functions online.

Abstract

Distance learning has been an option during the last few years due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The aim of this research is to identify the effectiveness of distance learning compared to conventional learning in terms of student learning achievement. This research is meta- analysis of random group contrast design (experiment-control) models. The data selection process refers to the inclusion criteria of year, theme, data type and data completeness. Based on these criteria, 10 articles were selected. The analysis process begins with testing the homogeneity assumption using three methods, namely ????2, ????2, and Q which shows heterogeneous data so that random model selection is appropriate, testing freedom of publication bias with Egger's test and funnel plot which shows that the data collected is free from publication bias, identifying the effect size and standard error, as well as conducting moderator variable analysis which considers domain, continent, subject, education level and year variables. The results of this study show that although distance learning has a positive influence on student learning achievement, the difference is not significant when compared with conventional learning. In addition, these results can be moderated by achievement domain variables, type of subject, level of education, and year.

Abstract

AbstractThe disease caused by the virus has caused a continuous pandemic worldwide since 2012. In order to slow down the rapid spread of the virus, many countries have taken recovery measures. This paper aims to analyze the trends of modeling pandemic cases in Scopus-indexed journals. The research method is a literature review using a bibliometric analysis approach starting from defining the keywords modeling' and ‘pandemic' in the Publish or Perish application with Google Scholar as the database. After narrowing the results by selecting the topic of modeling the pandemic problem it consisted of 200 articles in total. After that, the metadata was compiled using the Mendeley application, the VosViewer application was used to create a research trend visualization. The results obtained by bibliometric analysis show that the number of publications continues to increase. Which journals are published, which organizations and countries publish the most, how the evolution of perspective has changed since 2012, and which articles are most cited. We conclude that since the pandemic, there is a possibility of an evolution in the quality of publications. Keywords: bibliometric analysis; pandemic; mathematical model; Mendeley; Publish or Perish; Vosviewer. AbstrakPenyakit yang diakibatkan dari virus telah menyebabkan pandemi berkelanjutan di seluruh dunia sejak 2012. Abstract

This study uses a meta-analysis model to describe the relationship between self-assessment and achievement in learning mathematics. This meta-analysis covers articles published from 2011 to 2022 and is restricted to studies published in English. Indexed articles by Google Scholar were chosen. The data must meet these criteria: quantitative research, containing correlational research on the relationship between self-assessment and mathematics learning achievement (including correlation values and sample size). Through the data screening process with predetermined criteria, 12 research results were obtained, containing 43 studies to be analyzed. This meta-analysis uses a random effect model due to the heterogeneous data distribution. A publication bias test was carried out with the Fail-safe N model to ensure the quality of the data. The result of the analysis showed that the data distribution was heterogeneous, according to the I2 test, so selecting the random effect model was the right decision. Regarding publication bias, an accurate Fail-safe N test shows that the data are free from publication bias. Thus, the analysis uses a suitable model, and the results of the analysis can be trusted. The total effect size indicates a significant positive correlation (r = 0.295) between self-assessment and students' mathematics achievement. Therefore, the higher the self-assessment index, the higher one's mathematics learning achievement.

Abstract

This research aims to conclude the influence of eBooks in the learning process throughout the world. The meta-analysis design taken was a group contrast between control and experimental groups with a random effect size model. The criteria used are time “data published 2018–2023,” published in English, type of publication is a quantitative research article, the research design is a difference between control and experimental groups, containing complete data “mean, sample size, and standard deviation,” and recorded in the Scopus database. Data collection was guided by the PRISMA method. The results of the analysis showed that the data were heterogeneous and free from publication bias. The results of the analysis showed that there was a large “positive” effect as indicated by a p-value <0.001<5% “95% confidence interval” and a total effect size=0.86 [0.61; 1.11]. It can be concluded based on the latest findings that eBooks have an equally good effect on all conditions which are influenced by the type of competency developed, the eBook information base, the type of eBook, and class size.

Abstract

The study aims to unearth public perceptions of the label of favorite schools after the implementation of student admission reform in Indonesia, namely the zoning system, and to explore the underlying causes. Adopting a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, this study involved participants from nine provincial education services, nine regency education services, 72 teachers, and 72 parents. Data collected through in-depth interviews and focus groups reveal three distinctive perceptions of favorite schools. The first view posits that after the implementation of the zoning system, the quality among schools is relatively similar, indicating that the new policy is effective in reducing educational disparity. The second sees that some favorite schools persist, but there is a narrowing educational disparity among schools. The third view, the majority, maintains the belief of the importance of favorite schools and maintains the idea that sending their children to these schools is important to secure a better future. Erasing the label of favorite schools is not an easy endeavor since these schools have created long-lasting positive images in the public landscape. The result of the study will add to the discussion of the impact of the new applied school zone system on public perception of favorite schools and inform policymakers regarding the impact of educational policy enacted.
